BIO

Experience with on site Event Landscaping, Ecotherapy, & Natural Building, the past 11-years as an Interdisciplinary Designer, has led me to specialising in Landscape Architecture. I have been inspired by approaches such as permaculture and rewilding that offer regenerative perspectives.

Using these values, I have explored multifaceted resolutions to current environmental and societal challenges.

During this time I have honed digital skills in Photoshop, Autocad, InDesign, Lightroom, Sketch up and Enscape Rendering. Whilst also able to work in a team remotely through Microsoft Teams, zoom and Google suite.

Living landscapes are a constant inspiration for me inside and outside my professional work.

I enjoy kayaking along the local waterways, photographing wild-flowers and open water swimming.

I also enjoy facilitating leaf art, willow weaving and ceramic workshops for ecotherapy groups.

THESIS - Imagineering Abergwynant PERMACULTURE SETTLEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE FOR COASTAL LIVING Abergwernent Forest, Mawddach Estuary Studying vernacular Character

Imaginnering a coastal town in 2075 with a new sea level raised by 1.5meters alters the balance of eco-systems and how we live with it. By observing and analysing why the village of Fairbourne would be washed away by 2050 underpinned the philosophy of my project. By observing natural systems and utilising Permaculture principles, I learnt that by working with nature and the assets of the land, we can plan for settlements for the future. In a world scarce of food and clean water, working with the land offers sustainable sources of food, water, shelter, and goods production if cultural principles are shifted. This project offers space for a societal shift with a by-product of absorption of carbon . By enabling a place to nurture sense of belonging a conduit to connect to the land, heritage, and community, the epidemic of loneliness we face today is pacified in this holistic approach. Built on upland Celtic woodland surrounding a waterscape and fertile pasture harvesting regenerative yields of food in forest gardens, poly culture crops and seagrass meadow.

Energy crops, bio-fuel, wind power and hydro power harnessed from the flow of the Gwynant River provides a sustainable source of energy and fuel. Management of available Natural Resources utilises the lands contours, building materiality, water table and woodland management to mitigate risk of flooding and drought in the climate of 2075 as well as sequestering carbon for negative carbon-based living.

This scheme provides an alternative healthy place to live, work and play for Fairbourne residents; but actively supports reduction of carbon and is energy positive from renewable sources.

Promoting localised community and circular economy . Sharing food, energy, shelter, public access naturalised green spaces with to the wider community.

THESIS - Medicinal Forest Gardens Permaculture design promotes integrated plant systems, elements have multiple functions and beneficial relationships to other elements.

These planting systems are called guilds. The plants in a guild complement each other, maximising resources together as one system offering yields such as pollinating food, medicinal benefits, edible nutrition, wood harvest value and complementing accumulators.

Building resilient systems in this way adds nutrients to the soil and attracts pollinators to encourage the succession of the specimens and so a regenerative eco-system.

Working with Natural Materials & Upskilling in Carbon Free Future Proofing

CPD I am currently learning about Retrofitting construction to support a carbon free living. Addressing energy efficiency in traditional buildings will help aid carbon reduction.

This course is through The Green Registry and worth 7 CPD points. It covers principles including moisture movement, thermal bridging, building and insulation materials, energy assessments, planning and finance are complemented by practical solutions for domestic buildings, with a focus on solid walls, windows and ventilation as part of a whole-building approach.
