In addition, his 911 Emergency panels (taken from his award winning iCon project) are currently under consideration to be showcased as a part of World Trade Center Memorial Museum. Stoffel also looks forward to 08 as he plans his intensive look at Japanese culture with his upcoming work Japan-a - nation slated to begin in June.
By challenging the natural aesthetic and tradition of fine art within a digital age, Stoffel merges dehumanized technological and modern graphic aspects with a variety of warm mediums. After emerging from Stoffels photography, each piece then morphs into a dimensional communication that beckons touch and arouses curiosity. Following a degree in design and theatrical arts from Iowa State University, Stoffel studied in Paris where he enhanced his love of pop culture and began to incorporate projections, carbon paper, and newspaper into his designs. An avid traveler, Stoffel recently spent a year on the island of Oahu, where he was a contributing photographer to Hawaiian Airlines Magazine. Stoffel currently makes his home in New York.
Stoffel's work can be seen on Kimora Lee Simmons: Life in the Fab Lane, and VH1's reality showThe Salt n' Pepper Show. You can also spot Stoffel's work in the October '06 issue of Paper Magazine, January '08 issue of Next Magazine, Art Blog: Guerrilla Show, HX Magazine, Gay City News, and more.

Made in Taiwan focuses on the rich color of Taiwanese life, from temple gods and dragons, to the ornate style of a Taiwanese opera. Stoffel was amazed by what he found as he started to dive into this unique culture surrounded by industrial destruction. "Everything I saw was grey, stone smoke stacks, concrete housing, ash rising from burning bins of sacrificial paper... but I would leave this world whenever I steppe d into the elaborate temples.”
Robert Bangiola, Deputy Director for Materials for the Arts, of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, praises, “Stoffel’s brightly colored images of people and structures all convey a warm and welcome composure. In a time when urban society offers a choice between paranoia, caution or conversely a sense of community and sharing, his work opens doors to see our fellow humans in a personal, sweet moments.”
Made in Taiwan will be on display from December 21st, 2007 - February 5th, 2008 at GalleryBar on Manhattan’s Lower East Side between Delancy and Rivington. It was a decided change from the glitz and glam at our next stop, the Starving Artist Ball at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, where many of the aspirational creative types in the crowd probably had their first meal in a while. Ultrasuccessful playwright John Patrick Shanley was on hand to inspire, as was performance artist Bradford Louryk, who performed a scene from his show Christine Jorgensen Reveals, which reenacts the only recorded interview with America’s first post-op tranny. Seen: Robert Lupone, Alison Albeck-Lindland, Michael Clyne, Richmond Shephard, Luke Stoffel, Teddy Bergman and Matt Karson.

LUCAS STOFFEL
Pop Artist
"I see the world through art," declares the Iowa-born and Paris-trained Lucas Stoffel, 29. "I'm viewing [it] from a 21st century viewpoint." Evidently that modern, polymodal perspective is appreciated. After winning the 2006 Starving Artist Award and wowing the amFAR Rocks AIDS benefit as the featured artist that same year, Stoffel kept busy in 2007 with a commission by Dylan's Candy Bar titled "Sweetness" and a solo show at New World Gallery, not to mention a six-week trip to China to research his latest series, "Made in Taiwan," an exploration of tribal aesthetics and appropriation now on exhibit at the Lower East Side's Gallery Bar. Utilizing raw digital photos, Stoffel transforms each image into complex yet reductive canvases of vivid color using such diverse elements as newspaper, projections and acrylic paint. The result is undeniably pop.
Reflecting on his journey from cornfields to collectors, Stoffel credits changes in the art scene as his impetus and challenge. "Kids [in my generation], we're not spending our days on 10th and 11th Ave in the galleries, we're hanging out in the East Village. I'm trying to bring my art to an urban environment and reach a broader audience of people our age. I'm trying to change it; art has to evolve." And as with every creative endeavor in New York, forces pushing that evolution are half talent and half hustle.
"I never thought being a painter was such hard work!" Stoffel laughs. In the last two years he's been a "crazy one-man show," juggling advertising, marketing and PR and temp jobs not to mention actual production time. But he's optimistic about where that hard work is leading. "I think [2008] is the year of explosion," he enthuses on his prospects. "People of our age group are starting to see the work en masse. I've made so much headway this year that it's not stopping." With any luck, Stoffel's dynamic, innovative pieces will show a whole new generation of art lovers what's next.
