Experience

2022 Mar - Sep Hampshire County Council Property Services

Worked within the in house multi-disciplinary team on a range of public projects. Most of my time was spent on a net-zero pilot scheme to reclad an existing 70s system-build SCOLA primary school (RIBA stage 3). I assisted the project architect with the elevation design and produced planning drawings and a Revit model, coordinating with the structural engineer. I assisted the carbon consultants to produce detailed analysis of the scheme by calculating volumes, producing details, and researching lowcarbon products. Other projects included a feasibility for a small primary school extension which I designed, as well as visits to a number of construction sites.

CAD Skills

AutoCAD - to produce 2D drawings.

Sketchup - to create models from early design development to detailed final models, to produce drawings and visualisations.

2021 Sep - Dec

RIBA Mentoring with Studio Lime

Over multiple sessions I was introduced to the role of an architectural assistant in a practice. I gained an understanding of the RIBA Work Stages and the way in which a small practice functions.

Revit - to produce accurate models for the production of drawings at HCC, where I undertook an approved Autodesk beginner course. used the HBERT plug-in for elemental whole life carbon analysis.

2021 Jun - Aug

Work Experience at Henry Mein Partnership

Under the supervision of an Architect worked on multiple projects, including a medium scale residential project in Westminster and the remodelling of a house in Nottingham. This involved RIBA Work Stages 1 (Preparation & Briefing) and 2 (Concept Design).

Hiltingbury ‘Net-Zero’ Reclad

A pilot project, producing a new method for SCOLA re-cladding projects to align with Hampshire County Council’s 2050 climate targets. The project will inform a long term strategy for the decarbonisation and adaptation of the wider HCC built-estate.

was able to experience the project being developed from first principles with a focus on low embodied carbon design. From attending meetings with specialist consultants, I learned a lot about approaches for whole life carbon reduction, Passivhaus principles and off -site construction.

Some of the work I produced was to explain the differences between the benchmark approach and the low-carbon option, such as the detailed axonometrics on this page.

produced a set of planning drawings and completed a Revit model of the existing and proposed.

Turl Street Community Theatre, Oxford

Year 3 Project 2

Brief: To create a community theatre in central Oxford, with additional spaces for community use.

Concept: Using contextual forms to create a humble architecture, in opposition to the strong elevations of the adjacent colleges. The market hall typology is used for the community spaces, and a courtyard creates space for public performances, evoking early Elizabethan theatres.

CAD programmes: AutoCAD, Sketchup, Enscape, Adobe Photoshop, Procreate and HBERT (Revit).

A performance at the George Inn Theatre, with a temporary stage. The audience would watch in the yard or from the balconies which came at a higher price.

Church Forest Settlement, Amhara Ethiopia

2022 UIA International Student competition, group project

Brief: To design a sustainable dwelling in a settlement for 25 people within a country in the Great Green Wall across the Sahel Desert.

Concept: Over the past century, 90% of Ethiopia’s forests have been lost to agriculture. The majority of remaining forest within the Amhara province is found surrounding Orthodox Tewahedo churches. Known locally as debr or geddam, these church forests appear as islands of greenery amongst vast, dry agricultural land. In a holistic approach, the settlement is a part of a vision to restore native forest corridors, whilst implementing sustainable land management processes.

The dwelling design was drawn from an understanding of local vernacular architecture as well as the proposed adoption of bamboo, a material suited to meet the housing demand of Ethiopia’s growing population. The plan is optimised for cross ventilation

CAD programmes: AutoCAD, Sketchup, Enscape, Adobe Photoshop, Procreate.
