GREETINGS Happy Holidays everyone! It’s the holiday season! How exciting is that? Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose, and Warm 106.9 playing your favorite holiday tunes, how can it get any better than this? Oh I know! Key Club! There’s a lot of exciting things happening this month, just to make the holiday season that much better! On December 14th, Division 26 is hosting a divisional ice skating social at the Sno-King Ice Arena (Castle Ice) in Renton. More info can be found on the Facebook event page. Also, the Let it ELIMINATE Benefit Showcase is in the evening on that day as well so come out, see some awesome talent, and support this really important cause. Performing acts include: the JROD Twins, Kim Vallido, Koncrete Movement, and more! Turkey Baskets was a huge success! 211 complete baskets were made at Hazen High School and around four other schools within the division participated in the project. Great job everyone! Congratulations to Kentridge High School for completing around 30 baskets based on the requirements that I previously listed. Tahoma made 8 baskets, Kent-Meridian made 4 baskets, and Lindbergh made 2 baskets! Great job everyone! You’ve all made a significant impact in your community! Points will be allocated accordingly and will be updated soon. The December DCM will be a joint white elephant social with Division 27 following a joint divisional service project with the Forgotten Children’s Fund on December 21st. More information regarding the organization itself can be found here: http://forgottenchildrensfund.org/ Save the date! The Lieutenant Governor Election Rally will be on January 25th, 2014. If you’re interested in running, be sure you contact me so that we can go over what the job actually entails. The interest form link can be found on page 8; all prospective candidates must submit this form so that we can go over candidacy eligibility and address job-specific questions. What is Key Club?
Key Club International is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities.

The district spans from western Canada to northern California: with Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and the pan-handle of Idaho in between. The Pacific Northwest encompasses nearly 1.8 million square miles and includes over 300 clubs that operate under 44 divisions. Through rain or shine, snow or hail, Key Clubbers in the Pacific Northwest dedicate countless hours to their communities and internationally, and are always Proud 'N' Willing to serve!

What is the ELIMINATE Project? The Eliminate Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to internationally ter-minate MNT. What is MNT? In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its effects are excruciating– tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival. And tetanus kills mothers too. Who suffers from MNT? MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

Children’s Miracle Network Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) was established nationally in 1983 to help children by actively supporting improved health care for millions of young people around the world. CMN’s mission is to generate funds and awareness programs for the benefit of children served by its associated hospitals, now numbering more than 170 nationwide.
HOW KEY CLUB HELPS In 2009-10 Key Club and the Kiwanis family raised almost $1.8 million for Children’s Miracle Network and their affiliated hospitals. For more than a decade, Key Club International has been supporting CMN by sponsoring fundraisers and participating in service projects involving CMN children’s hospitals.

WHAT IS DCON? DCON is short for District Convention. Each year, the Pacific Northwest District gets together to celebrate the year of service, elect the new executive district board, meet other Key Clubbers in the area, and learn about new service opportunities.

Why Jacquelin? Jacquelin is the shining example of an ideal club treasurer. In fact, she was the first treasurer in the division and one of the first in the entire Pacific Northwest District to send her club’s dues in. Not only does she uphold her officer duties, but she also stays involved in her clubparticipating in a multitude of service events and providing great ideas to improve meetings and membership retention. She’s a remarkable asset to the functioning of her club and has done a fantastic job as a first-year officer.

If you could spend the day with anyone (living or dead), who would it be and why? If I could spend the day with anyone it would hands down be Malala Yousafazai because it’s so inspiring to see a girl my age fight for education rights for all women. What is your spirit animal and why? A cat because I love taking naps. Why do you love Key Club? Key Club has become such a highlight in my life, I can’t thank this community enough for all the things it has given me. Before Key Club, I had only volunteered at a summer church camp with maybe one or two close friends, and now I have a big family to share my interests. Just by being able to spread warm smiles and feelings, I’m able to connect and change people. I think that power alone is amazing. I love all the friends and experiences Key Club has brought me to.
