When LTA asked if we could reanimate Rumors (which had been canceled, like so many other productions), we were still in quarantine. My solution was to use pairs of actors already in each other’s bubbles. This meant precasting, which goes against the very spirit of community theatre. I extend my sincere apologies to those actors who didn’t get a chance to audition. It was a difficult decision in this strangest of times. Happily, casting actors in real-life relationships made the onstage ones ring truer. Whether on Zoom at first, or in person as restrictions loosened, I have enjoyed my time — and so many laughs — with these talented comic actors. Now it is your turn. Join your fellow theatregoers and laugh. Laugh hard. Laugh loud. Laugh together. It feels amazing, and I hope you enjoy every single moment.

SHOW SYNOPSIS
At a large, tastefully appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the deputy mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though he has only a flesh wound, four couples who have gathered for his 10th wedding anniversary are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. As the host lies bleeding in the other room and with his wife nowhere in sight, his lawyer, Ken, and Ken’s wife, Chris, must get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and miscommunications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.
Time: A pleasant evening in May 1989
Setting: Sneden’s Landing, NY
Act 1: An evening in May Act 2: A half-hour later

Meet the Cast (in alphabetical order)
Eileen Copas (Officer Pudney) is tickled pink to be part of the cast of Rumors! A mere 31 years after nailing the role of Child #something in the St. Luke production of Cheaper by the Dozen, Eileen returns to the stage, actually having permission to get on it for once. She has worn many hats over the years, yet travel and entertaining her friends, family and students have always brought her the most enjoyment. She would also like to add that her mom is incredible.
Mike Donahue (Lenny Ganz) This is Mike’s performing debut with LTA. His acting credits include George in Moon Over Buffalo, Bob Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird, Stanley Kowalski in Glass Mendacity, George in Of Mice and Men, Tom in Dinner with Friends, Andrew Wyeth in Sleuth, Joe in All My Sons, Devil in Bobby Gould in Hell and Macbeth in Macbeth. Mike has a BFA in performing from VCU and an MFA in directing from the University of Memphis, Tennessee.
Joe Dzikiewicz (Officer Welch) is delighted to make his LTA debut. When his nest emptied, he returned to the stage as George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play (MCP). Since then, he has done a little Shakespeare and some one-acts, but most of his energy has been put into films, which he also directs. Notable is Flowers for Daniel , a film-noir spoof where Joe played all the parts, including the femme fatale. Joe is also a member of the Party Mix Improv troupe.
Peter Halverson (Ernie Cusack) returns to LTA having spent his COVID hiatus behind a microphone, recording roles for Between Acts , a dramatic podcast series. Previously, he performed in area productions including You Can’t Take It with You (LTA), The Fabulous Lipitones (LTA), Spamalot (LTA), Man of La Mancha (MCP), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (DS) and Petpourri (SCT). Peter has also hung lights, run boards and fed cast and crew during tech week. Much love to J.R., his best coach, critic and fan: Thanks, Schmoopie!
Meet the Cast (continued)
Kirk Lambert (Glenn Cooper) is excited and honored to be a part of this magnificent cast and crew and thrilled to be back in live theater! His previous LTA roles include Arthur Parker in The Haunting of Hill House, Abraham Van Helsing in Dracula and PM Gordon Brown in The Audience. Kirk has also appeared at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap Filene Center, Studio Theatre and Alden Theatre. He is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA. Kirk would like to thank his family and friends for their support.
Janice Rivera (Cookie Cusack) has performed mostly in musicals so is anxious about this acting gig sans breaking into song! Previous roles: Carmen, The Nance (LTA); Camila, In the Heights (LTA); Aldonza, Man of La Mancha (MCP); Lucille, Parade, and Judas Iscariot, Jesus Christ Superstar, both WATCH nominations (SMP); Cathy, The Last Five Years (SCT); Mrs. Walker, The Who’s Tommy (LTA). She also doubles as a sound designer. Janice is a video editor/director/producer for Offbook Productions.
Mike Rudden (Ken Gorman) is excited to make his LTA debut in a role he first performed 10 years ago with Vpstart Crow. Locally, he has also been seen as Joe in Bachelorette (DS, 2015 WATCH nomination), Nick in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (CFTC), Mozart in Amadeus (PPF, 2016 WATCH nomination), Hinckley in Assassins (DS) and Vince in Tape (DS). He is a high school math teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools, but his true passion is taking care of his 1-year-old daughter, Cece.
Stephanie Chu Rudden (Chris Gorman) is grateful to be in her fourth production at LTA, having previously appeared in Avenue Q , Spamalot and In the Heights . As an actress and designer, she has worked on more than 80 dance and theater productions, receiving two WATCH nominations in lighting design and as a supporting actress. She thanks her on- and off-stage husband, Mike, for going through this journey with her and being a wonderful father to the most adorable 1-year-old, Cece.
Jayne L. Victor (Claire Ganz) is delighted to be back on the LTA stage in Rumors playing opposite her real-life husband!
Past acting credits include Auntie Mame (LTA), Moon Over Buffalo, All My Sons (WATCH nomination), House of Blue Leaves, August: Osage County and Dinner with Friends (PPF). Directing credits include Auntie Mame , Moon Over Buffalo (11 WATCH nominations) and Glass Mendacity (PPF).
Roxanne Waite (Cassie Cooper) is thrilled to be making her LTA debut! This is her second time appearing in this role, having previously played it with PPF in 2014. Other local theater credits include Toni Marston in And Then There Were None (PPF) and Mrs. Cratchit in A Christmas Carol (PPF). When not onstage, she fulfills many other crucial backstage roles, like stage managing, running lights or crewing. Roxanne is currently serving on the board for PPF. Many thanks to Matthew and this amazing cast for such a fun experience!
In case of an emergency, LTA has three AEDs (automated external defibrillators)
They are located as follows:
1. in the lobby, near the Council Green Room
2. in the cast entrance hallway, near backstage door
3. in the Alexandria Academy, on the first floor
LTA COVID Pandemic Health and Safety Standards
LTA will continue to follow all current health and safety standards set by governmental authorities while the COVID pandemic continues, and we will maintain our full participation in the ALX Promise program sponsored by the Alexandria Health Department and Visit Alexandria. As our new season begins, we expect our limited seating, face covering, and physical distancing requirements to continue much as they have this spring. This may, hopefully, change later in the season.
Meet the Crew (in alphabetical order)
Kirstin Apker (Properties Design) has filled numerous backstage roles at LTA, including props designer (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, The Producers —WATCH Award, The Nance —LTA Award, Legally Blonde, Key for Two , Laughing Stock ), set decorator ( Legally Blonde , Steel Magnolias—WATCH Award), assistant stage manager (A Party to Murder, Plaza Suite, Sweeney Todd) and artistic painter (Heaven Can Wait). She has also appeared onstage in To Kill a Mockingbird, and she serves as the coordinator of the theatre’s Floodlight newsletter. Thanks to Nick and Jen for inviting her to join in the fun, and love always to Tom and her four sweet kiddos for their support of Mommy’s avocation!
Ken and Patti Crowley (Lighting Design) After the last year and a half, Ken and Patti are excited to be working once again at LTA. Their most recent designs include LTA’s Gentleman’s Guide…, The Producers , The Nance , History Boys, In the Heights and 33 Variations; DS’s Last Summer at Bluefish Cove; RCP’s Peter and The Starcatcher, Aida and Gypsy; PWLT’s Cabaret, 39 Steps and Jesus Christ Superstar; and TAP’s She Loves Me and Deathtrap. Other noteworthy designs include Curtains, Picnic, The Secret Garden, The Will Rogers Follies, Widdershins, Into the Woods, Blithe Spirit, Das Barbecü, The Teahouse of the August Moon and I Hate Hamlet . They are the recipients of numerous awards including LTA, RCP, FCT and WATCH Awards for their lighting design. They want to dedicate their design to the production team, their fellow designers, and the cast and crew.
Charles Dragonette (Set Design/Set Decoration) is delighted to be designing his first LTA set and decorating his first since his LTA Awardwinning August: Osage County . He also previously decorated LTA’s acclaimed Anne of Green Gables and Key for Two, and he designed the set and dressing for LTA’s COVID-delayed Blue Stockings. Other theater activity includes stage managing (LTA, PCP, ACCT, DS), set design, lighting and props, with occasional acting gigs when no one will take the part of a grumpy old man with seven lines in the last two pages of a script.
Julie Fischer (Co-Set Construction) is delighted to be working on set construction again at LTA, and to be collaborating once more with Dan. She has previously worked on sets for A Few Good Men, A Christmas Carol, Jesus Christ Superstar and other productions at LTA, as well as for The Arlington Players and Aldersgate Church Community Theater. She appreciates the opportunity to work with the cast and crew of Rumors and believes that all human beings should have a favorite power tool.
Nick Friedlander (Co-Producer) is thrilled to be back into the swing of theater with this amazing team! He would like to thank the incomparable Jennifer Lyman for being his better half, Sarah Holt for willingly throwing herself into this with us, Meggie Webster and Lauren Markovich for being the best stage managers he’s ever seen, his parents for all their love and support, and all of his adopted theater relatives for getting him to where he is today!
Rebecca Harris (Hair and Wig Design) is very excited to be a part of Rumors. She has dipped her hands in many productions since moving to the Metro area 13 years ago. Special thanks: Director Matthew Randall, crew, design team, cast and friends for their love and continued support. Previous credits: Last Summer at Bluefish Cove, P.S. Your Cat Is Dead, How I Learned to Drive, Any Given Monday, Gilligan’s Fire Island, Evil Dead The Musical and The Great American Trailer Park Musical (WATCH recipient), all with DS; Company (MCP); Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (RCP); and Steel Magnolias and Dirty Blonde (LTA). “Gee, what a terrific party. Later on, we’ll get some fluid and embalm each other.”– Neil Simon
Sarah Holt (Assistant Producer) has played many on- and off-stage roles at LTA, but this is her first in a mainstage producing capacity. Acting credits include Katherine in 33 Variations (LTA), Laurie in Third (RLT), Nat in Rabbit Hole (Peter’s Alley), Maryanne in Mack, Beth (Keegan), Nora and others in Love, Loss, and What I Wore (NextStop), two full-length original plays at the Source Festival, and stepping in as an understudy in three Folger productions. Sarah is on the LTA faculty, teaching improv, acting and storytelling, and performs improv with the LTA house troupe, The Retros. It’s great to be back!
Meet the Crew
Sam Jensen (Master Electrician) can usually be found backstage hanging lights, fixing set pieces or calling a show. She started at LTA stage managing A Christmas Carol and You Can’t Take It with You. She made her lighting debut at LTA as a master electrician for The Producers and is excited to (finally) be back in the theater working with lights again.
Jennifer Lyman (Co-Producer) has been active in community theater for over 20 years. She started her theater career right here at LTA on the lighting crew and has worked as a master electrician, lighting designer, stage manager, producer and director. She appeared onstage in The Will Rogers Follies at DS and Footloose at LTA. Jennifer has produced 17 productions, including Intimate Apparel at LTA, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson at DS and Betrayal at PCP. She directed The Revolutionists, Dracula, Dirty Blonde and A Christmas Carol at LTA; The Drawer Boy for PCP; Bug, ‘night, Mother and Any Given Monday for DS; and The Giver for ACCT. Jennifer serves as a WATCH judge for LTA.
Lauren Markovich (Co-Stage Manager) is thrilled to be a part of this amazing team. While an undergrad, she had the opportunity to study theatre production and work with the Delaware Resident Ensemble Players. Now her “real job” is in the social work field, but she has continued to work with community theaters in her free time to scratch the theatre itch. Rumors marks her sixth production at LTA and her first time stage managing a full-length play.
Larissa Norris (Makeup Design) won WATCH Awards for her makeup designs for The Producers (LTA) and Time Stands Still (RCP). She has been nominated for eight WATCH Awards for her makeup design or hair design in local shows. Other makeup nominations include Steel Magnolias (LTA), Dreamgirls (DS), 9 to 5 (TAP), Dracula (LTA), and, for her bloody special effects makeup, Bug (DS). Her retro hair styling for A Streetcar Named Desire (LTA) also received a WATCH nomination. Larissa is a makeup artist in the area (check out Larissa Norris Makeup on Facebook to see her work). She is excited to work with this creative team again and with this fabulous cast!
Matthew Randall (Director) appeared in The Heiress at LTA in 2002, beginning his NoVa theatre odyssey, which has included roles in many productions and theatres, both onstage and off. He would list them here, but your time is valuable. Currently president of Dominion Stage, he is pleased to return to LTA with Rumors directing a dream cast of comic actors and supported in LTA style by a talented and frequently delightful crew. We look forward to hearing the sound of a live audience’s laughter. Welcome back.
Dan Remmers (Co-Set Construction) has been building sets at LTA for many years. He can’t remember any of them offhand, since that was over a year and a half ago. My, how time fries.
Margaret Snow (Wardrobe Supervision) is thrilled to be working again with such a talented director, producers, cast and crew. This show, like Neil Simon, is very special. Also, any rumors about wardrobe malfunctions are false until proven true. A special thanks to her husband, Art, for his inspirations.
Mona Wargo (Set Painting) has been active in theater for years, formerly with DS and CCDC. She joined LTA at the encouragement of the late Roland Gomez to paint his show A Party to Murder, for which she jointly won her first LTA Award. Her second LTA Award and 2018 WATCH Award were won for Dracula. She recently painted Frozen JR for ACCT as well as winning the latest LTA Award solo for A Christmas Carol. She continues to teach and paint for LTA.
Meggie Webster (Co-Stage Manager) is so excited to be working with director Matthew Randall on his show back at LTA. She previously stage managed The Revolutionists and is happy to be back again behind the scenes. It has been so fun, and she hopes everyone enjoys all of our hard work!
Meet the Crew (continued)
Judy Whelihan (Costume Design) thanks Matthew for her first opportunity at LTA. She has worked at RCP, ESP and VTC for many years and earned WATCH nominations and awards. Favorite shows include 1776 (RCP), The Laramie Project (RCP), Mame (RCP), The Rocky Horror Show (ESP), Wit (ESP), Doubt (ESP), Greater Tuna (ESP), Flowers for Algernon (ESP) and The Diary of Anne Frank (ESP).
Alan Wray (Sound Design) is excited to be working on this production with Matthew, Jen, Nick and the fabulous actors. Alan has designed sound for various LTA productions as well as for other theaters. He most recently designed sound for Moonlight and Magnolias. Additionally, for LTA, he designed sound for The Producers (WATCH Award), Picnic, 33 Variations (LTA Award), Harvey and the chilling Widdershins (LTA Award). He designed sound for TAP’s She Loves Me and The Seagull (WATCH nomination) and for Dominion Stage’s Spring Awakening and The Boys in the Band (WATCH nomination). Occasionally he can be seen producing shows. His last co-production was Ripcord with Lynn O’Connell.
Russell M. Wyland (Rigging) has produced numerous shows and dressed sets for countless LTA productions, including Hairspray, The Full Monty, Avenue Q, 33 Variations, The Underpants and A Fox on the Fairway. He is the winner of several LTA and WATCH awards for set decoration, special effects and producing. Russ’ specialty and first love, however, is rigging, and he has been hanging curtains, signs and chandeliers at LTA for almost 25 years.

Welcome to the “Shakespeare Garden” in The Little Theatre of Alexandria Courtyard! This beautiful garden was made possible with donations from LTA members and supporters who purchased bricks during the LTA Council’s fund-raising campaign February-April of 2017. We have planted floral species that figured prominently in the Bard’s writings. We invite you to check out our courtyard during intermission and see how many you can identify!
The Council of The Little Theatre of Alexandria, organized in 1961, is a dedicated group of about 70 members that supports the theatre with special contributions. While our “Shakespeare Garden” is our most massive accomplishment so far, our past contributions included: scholarships for high school students, a new range, draperies and ice maker for the Council Green Room, folding chairs and tables throughout the theatre, brass plates for sponsored theatre seats, a computerized box office system, several grand drapes over the years, and many varied technical enhancements, including automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for safety. Contributions to LTA from the Council have exceeded $215,000. The Council conducts three business/social meetings per year, and decorates the theatre for the winter holidays. We are pleased to be a part of the Alexandria artistic community and proud to support one of the best community theatres in America today!
