When was t he last time you saw a barbershop musical? Me neit her, and I have been looking. From my earliest school days, I have been a singer and was a nerdy choir kid before Gleeks were a t hing. Finding a hilarious comedy t hat focused on close harmonies of a small group of guys has reconnected me wit h my glory days. Society has found room recently for nerds of all types, people who are drawn toget her wit h shared passions, eager to share t he joys t hey have found in t heir niche interests.

Meet the Cast

(in alphabetical order)

John Brown (Wally Smit h) moved to Maryland from NYC in 2014. After 23 years away from t heater, John restarted his t heatrical involvement in 2015 by playing a Pirate in Peter Pan (TAP), the Governor in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (RMT), t he Principal in Footloose (RMT) and, in 2016, Dr. Carrasco in Man of La Mancha (LMP) and Underling in The Drowsy Chaperone (DTC). John is delighted to be a part of t he talented cast of The Fabulous Lipitones and t he Little Theatre of Alexandria.

Peter Halverson (Phil Rizzardi) returns to barbershop singing long after his college glee club days, but t he t hrill remains! He has performed in numerous community t heater productions, including Spamalot (LTA), Man of La Mancha (MCP), Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (DS), Follies (TAP) and Petpourri (SCT). O ffstage, he has hung lights, run sound boards and fed hungry actors and techies during tech weeks Big t hanks to The Fabulous Lipitones cast and crew, family, friends, and especially JR, his best coach, critic and fan.

Jerry Hoffman (Howard Dunphy) is making his first LTA appearance since Dial ‘M’ for Murder in 2013. Since t hen he has appeared in La Cage Aux Folles, Damn Yankees, Guys and Dolls and 1776 (MCP), Company (Tantallon Community Players) and, last year, as Alan in The Boys in the Band (DS). Jerry is a graduate of Cat holic University and in 2015 sang wit h t he university chorus and orchestra as t he School of Music celebrated its 50t h anniversary wit h a concert (Carmina Burana) at t he Kennedy Center.

Gurpreet Sarin (Baba “Bob” Mati Singh) is honored and excited to make his LTA debut in The Fabulous Lipitones! He is a local actor and singer who has had t he opportunity to perform in many events, and his most notable appearance was on season 12 of “American Idol,” where he made it to t he top 40 semifinal round. Gurpreet would like to thank his family and friends for their support!

Meet

Jamie Blake (Co -Producer, Wardrobe) is t hrilled to be working wit h Chuck, Rebecca and Luana and t his fabulous cast and crew. Jamie has spent t he last 30 years at LTA and loves every minute of it. She’s been on and off t he LTA Board of Governors, has won Best Producer twice, t he last time wit h Eileen Doherty for Widdershins, and long, long ago won Best New Member. Special t hanks to her mom and sister Liz for keeping her balanced. And to Rocco, who gives her sweet kisses when he wants to go out Always to Dad and Beamer Enjoy t he show!

Luana Bossolo (Assistant Producer/Co -Set Painting) is t hrilled to be working wit h her favorite set crew, director Chuck Leonard and producers Jamie Blake and Rebecca Sheehy Luana has been painting sets at LTA for seven years and won an LTA Award for best set painting for The Full Monty This is her second foray into assistant producing; she was assistant producer for LTA’s production of To Kill a Mockingbird

Marzanne Claiborne (Lighting Design) is delighted to be designing lights for The Fabulous Lipitones Previous designs at LTA include Dirty Blonde, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, To Kill a Mockingbird (LTA Award winner for Excellence in Lighting Design), Steel Magnolias and Key for Two. Lighting designs at ACCT include The Miracle Worker and Dixie Swim Club. As always, t hanks to Pam and Mike for being such great co -master electricians.

Abbie Desrosiers (Music Director Piano) returns to t he production side of t he fence after recently playing Marian Paroo in The Music Man (CRT) and Abigail Adams in 1776 (PTP). A pianist since before her feet could reach t he pedals, she was t he accompanist for TCP’s production of Guys and Dolls. Abbie is also a member of t he Irish Breakfast Band, an Alexandria tradition seen at First Night Alexandria, Art on t he Avenue and t he Kennedy Center’s Ireland 100 celebration. This is Abbie’s first production wit h LTA, and she couldn’t have asked for a more fun, welcoming cast and crew.

Eileen Doherty (Assistant Stage Manager) is delighted to be working wit h The Fabulous Lipitones team. She can usually be found behind t he scenes on one crew or anot her and even occasionally co -producing Thanks to Kerry for getting me involved at LTA and hope J J and Suzanne keep smiling down on LTA

Melissa Dunlap (Co -Stage Manager) has played a stage manager twice before, but t his is her first time actually stage managing She wishes to express particular appreciation to Lynn for her patience and wisdom in training a newbie If her name looks familiar, you may have seen her in local productions as Jean Louise Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird (LTA), Sarah in Laughing Stock (LTA), May in Fool for Love (PCP) or Suzanne in Picasso at the Lapin Agile (VTC).

Mary Ferrara (Assistant Stage Manager) most recently worked props for A Party to Murder and is looking forward to many more shows wit h LTA. Mary and her husband recently moved back to Old Town Alexandria after nearly 30 years in Los Angeles. Mary has a B.A. in t heater arts and while in L.A. became very involved wit h t he Nine O’Clock Players, wearing numerous hats over the years. NOP was founded in 1929 as part of the Assistance League of Southern California It is one of the oldest children’s theater groups in the country

Jim Hutzler (Co -Master Carpenter) has worked on many sets at LTA in recent years and enjoys collaborating wit h Jeff Nesmeyer He would like to recognize all of t hose who make LTA t he special place t hat it is

Mary Hutzler (Co -Set Painting) has enjoyed painting t heater sets at ACCT, LTA and PCP since t he last century In 2005 and 2012, respectively, her work for It Runs in the Family and Heaven Can Wait won t he LTA Pearl Award for Excellence in Set Painting. She was nominated for WATCH Awards for It Runs in the Family; Heaven Can Wait; Move Over, Mrs. Markham; and To Kill a Mockingbird wit h Luana Bossolo. Many t hanks to t he producers for inviting her to join t his fantastic team!

Lynn Lacey (Co -Stage Manager) has been stage managing (and designing sound) in t he NoVA area since 1996 and is t hankful to Chuck, Rebecca and Jamie for t he opportunity to w o rk wi t h t his t a l e n t

Chuck Leonard (Director) is directing his first show for LTA, t hough he has acted here in Proof and The Game’s Afoot Chuck is a faculty member for t he Honors College at George Mason University He received a master’s in directing from Miami University, where he t hen taught for nine years (t hat’s O hio, folks) Chuck is a huge fan of a cappella and has sung since grade school, so The Fabulous Lipitones is right up his alley Locally, he has directed at Encore Stage and Studio and at Episcopal High School, where he was t he director of t heater His favorite directing credits include Spamalot, Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Drowsy Chaperone, Lucky Stiff, The Lion in Winter, The Illusion, All in the Timing, Breaking the Code and Cul de Sac.

Pam Leonowich (Co -Master Electrician) has been climbing t he light ladders at LTA for over 12 years and is proud to follow in her mot her’s t heater footsteps. Her mot her managed and designed productions for t he troops during World War II wit h t he British Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA). Always a pleasure working wit h light designer Marzanne, co -master electrician Mike, and our fantastic light crew.

Meet

Matt Liptak (Set Design/Show Photographer) This production marks Liptak’s t hird time set designing here at LTA. Previous LTA sets include The History Boys and Steel Magnolias (WATCH Award winner for set decoration). Outside of t he DMV, Liptak has designed sets for notable productions of Les Misérables, Honk and Much Ado About Nothing. Liptak is no stranger to t he stage and has been seen acting in numerous productions t hroughout t he DMV Liptak t hanks everyone who worked tirelessly to make t his show happen, and he t hanks everyone who loves and supports him

Grace Manly Machanic (Choreographer) says dance has been t he continuous t hread in her life since she began ballet at age 3 In her 27 years wit h LTA, she has choreographed nearly 25 award-winning shows She also choreographs at Bishop Ireton High School, and t he last t hree Cappies Awards at t he Kennedy Center featured her dances for BI’s nominated shows. Grace teaches tap and ballet in her own studio (School for Swans). O f all her productions, she is t he proudest of her son and daughter, Bruce and Laura.

James Myers (Music Director Voice) is excited to return to LTA as co -music director for The Fabulous Lipitones. Previously, James has acted at LTA in t he roles of Warren Ives in Ira Levin’s Cantorial and Max in Dial ‘M’ for Murder. He most recently sang t he role of Sout h Carolina Senator Edward Rutledge in MCP’s production of 1776. He holds a master of music degree in vocal performance from George Mason University and a bachelor of music degree from James Madison University. He works as a private voice teacher at GMU’s Potomac Arts Academy. James would like to t hank his co -music director, Abbie Desrosiers, as well as t he entire cast and crew.

Jeff Nesmeyer (Co -Master Carpenter) is pleased to be working at LTA once again and sharing t he duties of master carpenter wit h Jim Hutzler. Jeff has been set building for t he last several years at LTA, and t his is his fift h venture as co -master carpenter Toget her Jeff and Jim have built sets like To Kill a Mockingbird, Spamalot and t his season ’ s A Christmas Carol and Anything Goes He t hanks LTA for its confidence in his carpentry abilities

Micheal J. O’Connor (Co -Master Electrician) frequently works as master electrician at many local community t heaters most recently Key for Two, Anything Goes, Steel Magnolias, The History Boys and A Christmas Carol for LTA and Mary Poppins for RCP He is happy to be back as co -master electrician wit h Pam Leonowich, a favorite partner. He can often be found backstage or in t he tech boot h, always in t he dark.

Leslie Reed (Prop Design) was enchanted by t he LTA’s warmt h and creative genius t he first time she was asked to help with the props of Blithe Spirit. A magical door had opened to reveal the world of make believe fabricated from hard work, imagination, superb talent and an abundance of cooperation and creativity. Gat hering props, painting sets, calling volunteers, researching details, cleaning, sweeping and sewing are all building blocks of a production. Being able to do it in t he LTA community is truly a gift.

Janice Rivera (Sound Designer) Sound design projects include The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Dirty Blonde, Spamalot (WATCH nomination), Caught in the Net and Cantorial (WATCH nomination) for LTA. Janice is a regular sound operator here in LTA’s Sky Lounge. You may have seen her onstage as well as Camila Rosario in In the Heights at LTA, Aldonza in Man of La Mancha at MCP, and Lucille in Parade at SMP. Janice is a video specialist via her post production company, O ffbook Productions

Rebecca Sheehy (Co -Producer) is absolutely delighted to work wit h co -producer Jamie Blake, assistant producer Luana Bossolo and director Chuck Leonard on LTA’s performance of The Fabulous Lipitones This is such a funny, witty, relevant show, wit h an amazingly talented cast and crew Go Team Fab! Sherry Singer (Assistant Stage Manager) did her first show years ago when she turned to one of t he ot her crew members and asked, “How long have you been doing t his?” and he said, “20 years. ” She looked at him in disbelief. As she now is in her 21st year, she understands why. Live t heater is always alive and interesting, wit h each show, each performance different, and what community t heater also does is offer a variety of opportunities to “do t heater” and to be a part of it. Sherry has done it all in many of t he area t heaters. She t hanks t he cast, crew and LTA for being a part of Team Fab.

Shannon Starcher (Assistant Stage Manager) has always been enamored by the theatrical realm and how all t he behind-t he-scenes elements come toget her flawlessly to create a beautiful work of art, one t hat moves t he audience and casts it into different situations This will be her t hird show in a row at LTA, and she has loved every minute of it Shannon has a t heater degree and wants to pursue more at LTA Go Team Fab

Jocelyn Steiner (Set Dressing) is delighted to be back working wit h Matt Liptak and Team Fab She has done set dressing and props for several area t heaters, including Vienna Theatre Company and McLean Community Players When not decorating t he stage and giving actors t hings to play wit h, she can be found producing and sometimes even performing! Jocelyn also does props and set dressing professionally for t he Madeira School, where she loves working wit h t he students and t he amazing staff. She hasn’t met a show she didn’t like, whether a play, musical or cabaret-style performance. Broken legs to Team Fab!

Jean Schlichting and Kit Sibley (Co - Costume Designers) are delighted to venture back to O hio, where Jean grew up in central O hio and still visits frequently. Kit explored O hio when her son had a summer job t here recently, so bot h are ready to costume t he fab four. They have costumed many LTA shows, including t he most recent production of Anything Goes. They have also done West Side Story, The History Boys, WATCH Award winner Hairspray and LTA Award winners 1776, The Full Monty, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Rocky Horror Show and Into the Woods Many t hanks to t he fabulous cast and crew

Russell Wyland (Rigging) has been t he LTA rigging chairman for t he past 15 years When he is not hanging t he stage curtains, which he does for most shows, he dresses sets (most recently Anything Goes) and produces (most recently A Christmas Carol and Red, White and Tuna t his coming June)

The Council of the Little Theatr e of Alexandria is a support group of interested and dedicated people who support t he t heatre wit h special contributions Additionally, t he Council has t hree social events per year, provides for t he winter holiday decorations for t he t heatre, and maintains t he Council Memorial Garden The Council was organized in 1961 and presently has about 80 members, most of whom are long-term and wellestablished LTA members. Past contributions include: a new range for t he Council Green Room of LTA, folding chairs and tables t hroughout t he t heatre, brass plates for t he new t heatre seats, new draperies in t he Council Room, t he computerized box office system, several grand drapes over t he years, and many varied technical enhancements Contributions to LTA from the Council have exceeded $200,000 and we gratefully accept donations from friends and members to assist in our support of LTA We welcome new members and if you would like to become a member of t he Council please feel free to contact t he t heatre or any of t he Council officers We are very pleased and honored to be a part of t he Alexandria artistic community and are proud to be supporting one of t he best community t heatres in America today.
