Dear LSU Alumni and Friends,

Welcome to Utah’s Mighty National Parks, renowned for awe-inspiring views, impressive rock formations and dramatic landscapes that must be seen to be believed. Enjoy 4 nights at onehotel on this vacation that features Canyonlands, Arches & Capitol Reef National Parks along with Dead Horse Point State Park and Monument Valley.

Arrive Salt Lake City, “The City of Saints” for one night. Then continue your vacation with a panoramic tour of Salt Lake City before heading south to Moab. Explore Canyonlands National Park, carved by Utah’s two mightiest rivers. Stand 2,000 feet above a gooseneck in the Colorado River at Dead Horse State Park for a breathtaking view of vertical cliffs. Journey on a guided scenic drive to explore Monument Valley Navajo Tribal area and experience one of the most majestic points on earth. View the area’s oddly shaped monoliths, buttes and mesas of red sandstone and stop at famous John Ford’s point, the location of many classic Westerns. Visit and walk along one of our country’s great national parks to see the stunning collection of natural sandstone formations at Arches National Park. One evening enjoy dinner at Canyonlands by Night including a cruise & light show experience. Visit Capitol Reef National Park which Partially got its name from the great white rock formations which resemble the U.S. Capitol building. Continue north and conclude your vacation in Park City for your Farewell Dinner and an overnight stay. Just a short drive from Salt Lake City, and home to two world-class ski resorts, film festivals and beautiful mountain scenery Park City draws visitors from across the globe year-round.

Daily Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVE SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH

Upon arrival meet your Tour Director and transfer to your hotel. Salt Lake City, “The City of Saints” was founded by Brigham Young in 1847. This evening enjoy a Beer & Wine Reception with your fellow Alumni travelers followed by a Welcome Dinner to get acquainted.

DAY 2: SALT LAKE CITY - MOAB

This morning enjoy a panoramic Salt Lake City Tour featuring Temple Square with its lovely landscaping and famous Tabernacle, the State Capitol, and the University of Utah--site of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Later head south and arrive Moab late afternoon. Check into your hotel in Moab and unpack for a four-night stay

DAY 3: CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK - DEAD HORSE POINT STATE PARK

Today visit Canyonlands National Park featuring deeply eroded canyons interspersed with sheer-sided mesas and a variety of spires, arches and unusual rock formations. The area was established as a national park in 1964 and is known for its dramatic desert landscape carved by the Colorado River. Later stop at Dead Horse Point State Park, towering high above the Colorado River offering breathtaking views of canyon country and the snaking Colorado River. This afternoon enjoy Wine Tasting experience outside of Moab. Grapes thrive in the warm and dry climate of southern Utah which is home to several beautiful wineries with picturesque landscapes in the west. Later enjoy a Beer & Wine Reception with your fellow Alumni travelers. The rest of the evening is at your own pace.

DAY 4: MOAB - MONUMENT VALLEY

This morning embark on a full day adventure to Monument Valley. Enter the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal area offering vistas of stunning rock formations on your way to Monument Valley, the most filmed area in the west. Enjoy an included lunch at Goulding’s Lodge and free time to visit Goulding’s Museum & Trading Post to see a collection of Indian artifacts and a movie set from a John Wayne film. Later enjoy a Monument Valley Scenic Drive Tour with a knowledgeable Navajo guide aboard a four-wheel vehicle. Explore the areas oddly shaped monoliths, buttes and mesas of red sandstone. This area was the setting for some of John Ford’s most memorable films. Return early this evening to Moab.

DAY 5: ARCHES NATIONAL PARK - CANYONLANDS BY NIGHT

This morning tour Arches National Park, one of our country’s great national parks. Explore and see some of the famous arches, over 2,000 in total and marvel at other red rock formations and canyons. This red-rock wonderland will amaze you with its contrasting colors and formations. The afternoon is free to relax or explore Moab on your own. This evening enjoy dinner at Canyonlands by Night. The experience features a cowboy-style Dutch oven meal followed by an evening Colorado River Cruise down the calm-water section of the river. The cruise guide will point out things of interest then as darkness settles the unique 40,000 watt natural light & narrated sound show begins on the illuminated canyon walls above the river.

DAY 6: CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK - PARK CITY

Depart Moab this morning for the scenic drive to visit Capitol Reef National Park, which lies in Utah’s south-central desert. The area is an oasis of colorful sandstone cliffs, impressive domes, and soaring monoliths, and was designated as a national park in 1971. The park got its name from the great white rock formations which resemble the U.S. Capitol building, and from the sheer cliffs that presented a barrier to early travelers. Stop at several points of interest including the Visitor Center to learn more about this national treasure. Later head north and arrive in Park City for an overnight stay. Park City is just a short drive from Salt Lake City, and home to two world-class ski resorts, film festivals and beautiful mountain scenery drawing visitors year-round. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner with your fellow travelers in Park City.

DAY 7: PARK CITY - FLIGHT HOME

Today fly home from Salt Lake City filled with wonderful memories of your time and adventures in Utah.
