LSPU holds Strategic Dev’t Plan Workshop 2019-2023 BAY, LAGUNA—The Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) conducted its Strategic Development Planning for the Year 2019-2013 at the Kamayan Resort, Aug. 16-17.

Aimed at aligning the university’s path with the administration of the new University President, Dr. Mario R. Briones, the seminarworkshop focused on the creation of new LSPU Strategic Plan headed by Adriel Roman, Director of the Physical Plan and Site Development.

Some of the regional partners who participated in the event were Dr. Tirso R. Ronquillo, President of the Philippine Association of State Colleges and Universities (PASUC); Engr. Luis G. Banua, Regional Director of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA); Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Former University President Nestor M. De Vera also took part in the seminarworkshop on the first day, sharing his experience and insights in managing the university.***

Pres Briones names new LSPU Admin Council members The said series of memo is comprised of designations and revalidations of the Vice Presidents (VP), Campus Directors (CD), Directors and Chairpersons, and Deans and Associate Deans.

Former Campus Director of Siniloan Campus, Engr. Beltran P. Pedrigal, is designated as the new Vice President (VP) for Administration. Meanwhile, Dr. Eden C. Callo and Dr. Corazon N. San Agustin, VP for Academic Affairs and VP for Research and Extension Development, are revali-

dated for their respective designations.

As part of his leadership plan, President Briones introduced a new management scheme wherein the CDs of the four campuses were installed to a different area assignments. With the reassignment of campus, the CDs are anticipated to apply the best practices they implemented in their respective campus and likewise learn new ones in the new area assignment—the outcome of which contributing to the total development of the University. BUDGET STATUS. LSPU and Department of Budget (DBM) officials for the Agency Performance Review held at the President’s Hall, LSPU-San Pablo City Campus, Aug 23. Adriel Roman, Director of the Physical Plan and Site Development, headed the presentation of LSPU budget utilization. From the evaluation given by DBM representatives, it was revealed that the number of unoccupied available positions is one of the reasons for the less likely turnout of the University’s budget utilization, a concern that President Mario R. Briones took note of for immediate action.

CHED Technical Committee reviews LSPU Grad Programs for COPC The Commission on Higher Education Technical Committee (CHED-TC) visited two campuses of the University to review the Graduate Programs for the granting of Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC).

Los Baños Campus and Siniloan Campus submitted themselves for CHEDTC assessment on July 29 and 30, respectively.

Headed by Dr. Marilou P. Oroceo, Education Supervisor II of CHED IV-A, the CHED technical committee evaluated the Graduate Studies and Applied Research (GSAR) programs based on faculty qualifications, syllabus, library resources, laboratory, researches and academic policies among others.

Alignment of the faculty teaching in the Graduate Program was reviewed. It was observed that there is sufficiency in the number of faculty members with majorship in Educational Management but lesser for other fields of specialization. Faculty members were also encouraged to avail for advanced training or Post-Doctoral studies to further their knowledge and be updated with the current trends in pedagogies in their respective fields of specialization.

It was also observed how traditional and repetitive assessments were evident in the syllabi of some faculty.

NEWSBRIEFS CHED invites VP Callo as RQAT member Commission on Higher Education (CHED) invited Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Eden C. Callo, as a Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) member.

Dr. Callo was requested to review Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) program of the Grain of Wheat College, Inc., in Taytay, Rizal on Aug. 15, and Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) program of the East Systems Colleges of Rizal, Inc., in Morong, Rizal on Aug. 20.***

program heads and members to observe constructive alignment and assure that the assessment is parallel with the objectives of the lesson.

Subscription to journals was also taken into consideration. Apart from general education researches, articles and journals must also be evident for each and clustered according to specialization; in turn, these resources that should be

made available for the utilization of the teachers and students for classroom discussions.

Change in the nomenclature of “Social Science” into “Social Studies” and moving Guidance and Counselling from CTE to CAS were also noted.

These recommendations were presented for compliance in order for the graduate programs to be granted the COPC.***

Strengthening LSPU Community Linkages:

LSPU-Liliw partnership gears towards realization Pilot Extension Classes officially opens with student orientation

The Laguna State Polytechnic University-Liliw Municipality tie up in the establishment of a tertiary education in the community has been bolstered with the conduct of meetings among top management officials, July 31 and August 8.

Meanwhile, student Orientation was conducted with the participation of Municipal Councilors, LSPU officials, and students on Sep. 2.

During the first meeting held at the LSPU-San Pablo City Campus, Dr. Eden C. Callo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, informed the Liliw Municipality officials and staff that it was decided by the LSPU Board of Regents (BOR) to change the nomenclature of the project from “LSPU-Liliw Extension Campus” to LSPU-Liliw Pilot Extension Classes” with respect to the limitations of its implementation. The LSPU BOR

also raised their concern on the sustainability of the tieup, putting forth the assurance that the project is not co-terminus with the present local administration. As a response, Ericson Sulibit, Municipal Mayor, assured that the education partnership shall remain regardless who acts as the chief executive of the municipality as evidenced by the creation of a municipal resolution.

Further, Mayor Sulibit also clarified that the reason for opting for a tieup with an established academic institution instead of establishing an independent

local higher education is the rigorous process that would take time and would pose delay for the immediate need of the community for an accessible tertiary education.

LSPU-Liliw Pilot Extension Classes will be offering two bachelors programs, namely: Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BS Entrep).

The management of operation of the site will remain with the Liliw Municipality with the supervision of the LSPU-Sta. Cruz

Main campus in terms of academic and management system in maintaining the standard of education the University has established.

Mary Maileen Sulibit, Municipal Executive Assistant, informed LSPU that the building for the Pilot Extension Classes is being constructed; for the meantime, the students will be occupying the ALS building.

With the approval of the University President Mario R. Briones, the Sta. Cruz Main campus will be the host campus of the LSPU-Liliw Pilot Extension Classes as headed by Campus Director Engr. Joseph M. Cabiente.

The Sta. Cruz Campus Registrar connected with Liliw Municipality for the enrolment process.

Other University officials who took part in the partnership are Vice President for Administration, Efren R. Dela Paz; Campus Directors Engr. Joseph M. Cabiente, Engr. Manuel Luis R. Alvarez, Engr. Beltran P. Pedrigal, and Dr. Daniel D. Bunal; Director of Gender and Development , Dr. Ruby Brion; Director of Extension and Training Services, Angela Reginaldo; Guidance Officer, Annalyn Delfino; Dean of the College of Teacher Education, Dr. Florhaida V. Pamatmat; Dean of the College of Business Management and Accountancy, Marissa M. Dimarucot; and Chairperson of the Human Resource Management, Melissa Rose Tupas.

VPAA Callo suggested that the students be listed in the Listahanan of the DSWD for further scholastic support should students be eligible for the said grant.***
