What do you most enjoy about your work as a Locksmith?

Having been in the industry for over 12 years, I’ve enjoyed watching the industry grow, for me that has meant incorporating new technology (electronic security, keyless entry, CCTV, alarm & access).

I also enjoy and take pride in providing service to my customers, knowing they feel safer in their homes after break ins gives me a real sense of success.

What are some of the skills and abilities necessary for someone to succeed as a locksmith?

A well-rounded locksmith is key to success within the industry which entails all the traditional skills required (gain entry, rekey, safes, etc) plus advancing your skills as the industry does too.

Quality installation is imperative when your client hires a locksmith. Clients expect top quality and fast service. Carpentry and metal work skills will help you cement your installation of locks and hardware.

Specialisation is fundamental to help you stand out and excel. It could be speciality safes, automotive, etc, for me it has been electronic security.

Attitude is also really important - never stop learning and never become complacent in what you do. For me, I’m now running Barrenjoey Locksmiths Electronic department while building my own company, Northtech Security, providing all aspects of installation and service.

What are your career goals?

My career goals are building a successful business, that will entail me building my management skills for the future staff I will employ. In short, the goal for me is to become THE locksmith and security business for the Northern Beaches region.

What does winning the award of 'Australia's Best Young Locksmith' mean to you?

For me it would be recognition of hard work, passion, growth, success in and dedication to the industry.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles Our plucky Product Managers are constantly on the road or in the sky, in search of the next big thing in security. October saw Electronic Security Product Manager, David Lorimer, jet off to Europe to catch-up with two of our exclusive suppliers; Creone and AMC.

The Norse God of Key Control Creone are located in Sweden in the charming seaside village of Tranås. Founded in 1979, the family owned business now supply key and valuable storage solutions into 25 different countries. Their KeyBox and ValueBox ranges will be familiar to many LSC customers.

While there I had the opportunity to see their office, showroom, assembly and testing facilities.

The warehouse stores the components that are used to make up the cabinets and value boxes. Components are sourced locally to ensure high quality is maintained and costs are kept to a minimum.

All Key Cabinets and Value Boxes are assembled at Creone and then put through product testing before they are packaged up and released to the different distributors around the world.

Creone house an impressive showroom that showcase their diverse product range. This showroom is also used for product training as all the product on display is fully operational.

During my visit, I was struck by the passion of the Creone team, both for their products and the relationships they’ve built with their distributors. They’re always keen to hear how their product is received in different markets so they can continue to refine existing products, as well as develop new and exciting products that we will see in the market place in the future. There are exciting times ahead for LSC and Creone in the Australian market.

The Maestro of Intrusion Detection Next stop on my tour was Italian alarms manufacturer, AMC. The family owned business has over 30 years’ experience in the intrusion detection market and are well known for their high quality and sleek design.

AMC’s headquarters are situated in Alzate Brianza, a small province within driving range of both the picturesque Como region and the buzzing fashion capital, Milan. Here you will find the main offices, customer service, marketing department, development team, packing area, and a small warehouse.

Only a few kilometres away in Lurago d’Erba, AMC have their test laboratory and a fully automated production line for the SMT technology electronic boards. This impressive facility operates 24-hours a day, seven days a week to ensure AMC can meet the needs of their ever-expanding global distribution network.

All the Electronic boards manufactured in Lurago d’Erba facility are put through rigorous testing and quality control to ensure all components are correctly located on the boards and that all solder connections are perfect. Craftmanship is key to AMC, with some components still assembled by hand as they cannot be done on any SMT machine.

A dedicated team of seven specialists make up the AMC Product Development Team. AMC’s long-standing commitment to product development can be seen in their consistently high standard of design and quality. LSC is extremely excited to have such a strong relationship with AMC and the Australian market can look forward to some exciting and revolutionary new developments over the next 12 months.

SALTO announced two exciting developments at Essen 2018 which will deliver major benefits to Dealers.

SVN-Flex provides access management with increased security, more convenience and at lower cost. It makes hard-wired update points obsolete, thus introducing completely wire-free access control with online functionalities.

It provides a range of benefits to operators and end users, especially by removing the need to go to specific doors or locations to update cards. Now users can update their access rights anytime and anywhere as any wireless door can be activated as an SVN-Flex updater.

Due for release Early November The Neo Electronic Cylinder will replace the Geo as we know it. SALTOâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s electronic cylinder has undergone a complete re-design and has a number of enhancements including extended battery life, BLE and NFC functionality meaning it can be used a SVN-Flex updater and improvements to the overall cylinder design for greater weather resistance on the IP66 model.

BUSINESS Our Product Managers regularly attend security exhibitions all across the world to see the latest developments in security.

Over the years, the biennial Security Essen show, held this year at Messe Essen, has developed a reputation as the trend-setting international fair for all aspects of security.

And this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s exhibition was no exception.

David Cooper, David Lorimer, Daniel Waddell and Warren Nelson from LSC were all in attendance at this yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s show which saw 950 exhibitors from 43 countries present their latest innovations. Popular LSC brands had a considerable presence at the show, with manufacturers such as ABUS, SALTO, Silca, STI, Dahua, HID, Creone and AMC all exhibiting at Essen.

Much like Birmingham in the UK, Essen has been the epicentre of manufacturing in Germany since the industrial revolution. It is also home to the illustrious Red Dot design award, making it an apt setting for an exhibition that is often used by manufacturers to launch their latest innovations.

Over 36,000 trade visitors from 125 nations visited the show this year and were treated to a wide array of mechanical and electronic security solutions. Protection – be it public or private, digital or analogue – was a

central theme for many exhibitors. This year also saw the launch of a new hall devoted solely to Cyber and Economic Security, a sign that the divide between digital and physical is not as rigid as it once was.

With Security Essen now done and dusted for the year, it’s time for our Product Managers to start looking forward to the next big show on the calendar – the China Public Security Expo (CPSE) in Beijing, China.
