PRACTICE 1

I decided to explore aspects of collage for my indepent practise after the collaging workshop.

I liked the idea of trying to convey a word or emotion usong pictures and shapes without necessarily using type. On this page for example (left to right) ‘Imbalance’ and ‘Unidentified’.

These are some collages using mixed media, including 0.05 fine liner, inspired by Roderick Mills

- using elements of and pattern making.

These are some versions of a photograph which have been edited on Photoshop, deviating from the traditional cut and paste version of collaging - using the ideas of symmetry, mirroring and repetitive shapes layered of top of one another to create new forms and patterns.

These images include experimentation of subject matter and background, mixing colour and black and white images to interest the viewer; juxtapositioniong

archaic and modern images using the traditional cut and paste method.

These images were inspired by the graphic designer Lou Beech (top and bottom rows of images). The bold colours and sliced images are remeniscent of 1970s EP covers this trend of collage and musical

interpretation has circled round from past years and is now fashionable once again.

Thinking about the selling points of collage, here are some

created with the intent of being placed on Christmas cards.

I printed my designs onto recycled brown paper after altering them in Photoshop so that I could stick them onto cream coloured card to finish the Christmas cards.
