5 MY DAY /// FIVE

My day

Hello, everyone at Sports International. It’s Ella from Edinburgh here! I live in a flat in an area called Marchmont, with my mum and dad, twin brother, and older sister. I’m in year 6 at Sciennes Primary School, near to where we live. My sister and I would love to meet sports enthusiasts in other countries.

My siblings and I are probably not very typical when it comes to sports. My sister and I are sports freaks, while my brother doesn’t do any sports at all. He’s a gamer, though. He loves all the usual online games and especially online chess – maybe that’s kind of a sport? Mum tried to force him to play tennis when he was younger, but he wasn’t having any of it – so it’s still only Mum that plays tennis. My sister has ended up sailing at a pretty good level. She’s in a wheelchair, but her friend’s family have taken her with them for years on their boat, and sometimes she even does fast dinghy racing with them at their boat club in Cramond. My sport is the coolest, though: I’m a mountain biker like my dad. He’s a physiotherapist and a big believer in outdoor life to help keep us all healthy. We go camping all the time in the Highlands of Scotland – with our bikes, of course. This coming summer, we’re going to the island of Mull – can’t wait.

4 Answer the questions

In which part of the UK does Ella live?

Where has she lived before and why?

What is her favourite outdoor activity?

3 Listen and read 6 SIX /// MY DAY

Me and my sister would really like to meet people from other countries because we used to live abroad through my mum’s job. She works for a global medical company, and they sent her to work in places like Germany, Italy and Canada until she and my dad decided to come back to Scotland for good. In Canada, we lived in Quebec City, and I went to a French-speaking school. It was hard at first, but I actually ended up speaking French pretty well.

This year, I have got really serious about mountain biking, so I’m looking for a good club to train at. In the future, I hope I’ll be able to race for a real team. For now, though, my dad trains me and sometimes I’m allowed to go on rides with his club. Soon we’re going on an overnight ride in the Scottish Borders with tents and everything. I still have plenty of time for my friends, though. In the summer, we hang out at the beach in Portobello, east of Edinburgh – you can get the best ice cream there! Otherwise, we just go to the Meadows, which is our local park, or to a café or shops in town if someone has a little pocket money.

So that’s me! Write a comment below if you would like to connect online from any country in the world!
