FRANCE BURGUNDY

For more than 180 years the love of wine has been passed on from one Faiveley generation to the next. The Domaine has always remained in the same family and always completely independent. Today Erwan Faiveley is one of the youngest directors of a Burgundy Domaine on record. Erwan is keen to respect the traditions and savoir-faire of the Faiveley family, while paying great attention to the professionals around him, as his vision for the future begins to take shape.

FRANCE BURGUNDY

In 1831, Bernard Bichot founded a wine brokerage that bore his name in Monthélie. Albert Bichot, the first to bear this name, expanded the family business in the late 19th century and moved the headquarters in 1912 to its latest location in the centre of Beaune. The family legacy has been passed down then from father to son. Since then, the house style has become more precisely defined, and grows ever more popular, as attested to by the presence of our wines on the flints tables. Our vineyards quickly developed within four estates.

Puligny Montrachet Alain Chavy 2021

In 1903 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Alexandre de Mayol de Lupé and Félix de Cholet decided to join forces to create the House which still bears their name, Lupe-Cholet. “To bring together the best of soil, vine and human skill to price wines of unique personality” was the motto and is still ours today.

Careful selection of the grapes, light pressing, partial or total destemming, cold maceration prior to fermentation are the techniques used to imprint our style on our wines. Rich and complex wines redolent of ripe fruits which progressively reveal themselves at each stage in their evolution.

FRANCE BORDEAUX

The Bordeaux wine region is divided into subregions including the famous areas of Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, Médoc, and Graves. The 60 Bordeaux appellations and the wine styles they represent are usually categorized into six main families, four red based on the subregions and two white based on sweetness

The grapevine was introduced to the Bordeaux region by the Romans, probably in the mid-1st century, to provide wine for local consumption, and wine production has been continuous in the region since then.

In 1855, the châteaux’s of Bordeaux were classified; this classification remains widely used today. From 1875–1892 almost all Bordeaux vineyards were ruined by Phylloxera infestations. The region’s wine industry was rescued by grafting native vines on to pest-resistant American rootstock.

FRANCE CHABLIS

The Chablis region is the northernmost wine district of the Burgundy region in France. The grape vines around the town of Chablis are almost all Chardonnay, making a dry white wine renowned for the purity of its aroma and taste. The cool climate of this region produces wines with more acidity and flavours less fruity than Chardonnay wines grown in warmer climates, The wines of Chablis often have

a“steely” quality in comparison with the white wines from the rest of Burgundy, Chablis has on average much less influence of oak. Most basic Chablis is un-oaked, and vinified in stainless steel tanks. The amount of barrel maturation, if any, is a stylistic choice which varies widely among Chablis producers. For many years the Durup and Billaud-Simon Wineries have been producing wines of the highest quality.

FRANCE LOIRE

The Loire Valley wine region includes the French wine regions situated along the Loire River from the Muscadet region near the city of Nantes on the Atlantic coast to the region of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé just southeast of the city of Orléans in north central France. In between are the regions of Anjou, Saumur, Bourgueil, Chinon, and Vouvray. The Loire Valley itself follows the river through the Loire province to the river’s origins in the Cévennes but the majority of the wine production takes place in the regions noted above.

Pascal Jolivet was founded in 1987 and is now one of the most dynamic domaines in France’s Loire Valley.

FRANCE SOUTHERN

Domaines Ott was founded in 1912 by Marcel Ott, an agricultural engineer from Alsace who dreamed of establishing a great wine estate near the Mediterranean. He moved to Cavalaire in 1896 and founded Château de Selle in 1912, followed by Clos Mireille in 1935 and then Château Romassan in 1956. These wines are made at the distinctively different estates in the Bandol and Côtes de Provence appellations. Domaines Ott was managed by Marcel’s descendants until 2004 when the Estates were purchased by Champagne Louis Roederer to add to their impressive portfolio of iconic Domaines. Several of the Ott family members remain involved in production.

Italy, closely followed by France, is the world’s largest wine producer by volume. Its contribution is about 45–50 million hl per year, and represents about a third of global production. Italian wine is exported around the world and is also extremely popular in Italy: Italians rank fifth on the world wine consumption list by volume with 42 litres per capita consumption. Grapes are grown in almost every region of the country and there are more than one million vineyards under cultivation Italy’s twenty wine regions correspond to the twenty administrative regions. Understanding of Italian wine becomes clearer with an understanding of the differences between each region; their cuisines reflect their indigenous wines, and vice versa. The 73 DOCG wines are located in 15 different regions but most of them are concentrated in Piedmont, Veneto and Tuscany.

Mazzei

The history of the Mazzei family is closely linked not just to the history of wine making in Tuscany, but to the political and cultural history of the entire region. The first documents that name the Mazzei family – originally from the wine making area of Carmignano – date back to the early eleventh century.

Today, after almost six centuries, the family, under the guidance of Lapo, who oversees the property with the help of his sons, Filippo and Francesco, and Filippo’s son, Giovanni still devotes itself to wine making, with an ongoing commitment to innovation and improvement while respecting tradition, family values and the natural environment.

Tenuta Belguardo was purchased in the 1990s after the Mazzei family identified the potential for producing quality wines on the estate.

The broader area comprising Veneto, FriuliVenezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol is known collectively as the Tre Venezie, after the Republic of Venice. Veneto is the most populous and biggest denominazione di origine controllata (DOC) producer of the three regions. The Veneto region produces more whites under DOC and is notably home to the Prosecco and Soave wines. The region is protected from the harsh northern European climate by the Alps, the foothills of which form Veneto’s northern extremes. These cooler climes are well-suited to white varieties like Garganega (the main grape for Soave and used heavily in the production of blended Pinot Grigio wines),while the warmer Adriatic coastal plains, river valleys, and Garda Lake zone are the places where the renowned Valpolicella, Amarone and Bardolino DOC reds are produced.

In Veneto, two different wine areas are clearly distinguishable: an Eastern part, close to the Venice Lagoon between the hills of Treviso, the plain of Piave river and Adriatic coast, where it is typical to produce the famous Prosecco (Glera), and other grape varieties are grown like Merlot, Carmenere, Verduzzo, Raboso Piave, Refosco, Tocai, Verdiso, Marzemino; and the Western part, close to Garda Lake and the city of Verona, famous for the wines based on the varieties Corvina, Rondinella, Garganega, Trebbiano of Soave, and Oseleta.

In 1957 the chairman Anastasion Jesús Victorino Eguren Ugarte, bance the third generation to take over the management of Heredad Ugarte. Spain has over 2.9 million acres (over 1.17 million hectares) planted—making it the most widely planted wine producing nation but it is the third largest producer of wine in the world. Major Spanish wine regions include the Rioja and Ribera del Duero, which are known for their Tempranillo production; Valdepeñas, drunk by Unamuno and Hemingway, known for high quality tempranillo at low prices; Jerez, the home of the fortified wine Sherry; Rías Baixas in the northwest region of Galicia that is known for its white wines made from Albariño and Catalonia which includes the Cava and still wine producing regions of the Penedès as well the Priorat region.

The French terms Mousseux and Crémant refer to sparkling wine not made in the Champagne region, such as Blanquette de Limoux produced in Southern France. The United States is a significant producer of sparkling wine today, with producers in numerous states. Recently, production sparkling wine has restarted in wine from the United Kingdom and is now producing some of the world’s finest sparkling wines.

SPARKLING de Bernard

The de Bernard wine cellar was founded in 1948 in Bastia d’Alpago, a small village nestling against the thousand-year-old Cansiglio wood. At the beginning in Bastia d’Alpago ferruccio de Bernard used to distill just Kapriol, a liqueur obtained from medicinal herbs and juniper berries and famed throughout the whole Alpine region. In early 1950s, the estate was transferred to Conegliano where it started to produce sparkling Prosecco wine. By 1957, Prosecco de Bernard was already being exported to many countries, and even as far as Australia. In 1962, the state was awarded “Best Prosecco Wine” by the widely distributed magazine Quattrosoldi. In 2002, Maschio took over this beautiful winegrowing estate and cellar, carrying on the quest for excellence undertaken by the de Bernard family with great passion and enthusiasm. He further enhanced all of the current Docs, including the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Superiore DOCG.

This cuveé, with reflections of straw yellow, stands out by the finesse of its slowly rising bubbles and its persistent and abounding mousse. Maturity touched with floral freshness for this cuveé that breathes aromas of fresh fruit and ripe pears. ABV 12%.

Located on the slopes of the Marne valley, they grow all three grape varieties:

- Pinot Meunier (red grape with white flesh) gives the wine roundness and fruitiness

- Pinot Noir (red grape with white flesh) gives the wine body and vinosity

- Chardonnay (white grape) brings finesse and lightness. Meticulous picking and careful pressing following the Champagne tradition, the grapes are picked exclusively by hand, to keep the bunches intact. These are then quickly, but carefully, transported to the press. The grapes, handled with care, are pressed gently (to avoid coloration of the juice) in the traditional press, qualityapproved, which can hold 4000 kilograms. The family continue to make distinctive high quality wines for the world to love.

Its pale and bright pink colour is adorned with warm glints of gold and its delicate slowly rising bubbles give it a persistent mousse. This cuveé unveils a subtle aroma leading to an elegant, delicate bouquet of fine notes of red fruits and zest of citrus fruits. ABV 12%.

In 1845, Louis Roederer acquired 15 hectares in the Grand Cru vineyards of Verzenay. The idea—which was quite unusual at a time when grapes had little value—was to become a wine grower in order to master the entire process of creating his vintage wines. Since, every Louis Roederer vintage originates exclusively from our own vines, which is rare indeed in the Champagne region. The quest for a diversity of terroirs, crus, parcels, and grape

varieties in the vineyards (or climats to use the Burgundian expression) was rapidly integrated by the House of Louis Roederer. A ground breaking strategy was implemented, which involved buying specific parcels selected for their capacity to produce distinctive wines. This strategy is still a core component of the House’s continuing development. In 2013, Louis Roederer’s vineyards stretched across 240 hectares and include 410 parcels.

PORT AND SHERRY

Ramos Pinto

Founded in 1880 by brothers Adriano and Antonio, this Port house has always had a pioneering spirit. In the early 20th century it became noted for its innovative and enterprising commercial strategies including the distinctive art nouveau advertising campaign.

Ramos Pinto is run today by the heirs of these two energetic vintners: Jorge Rosas, Export Director and João Nicolau de Almeida, the enologist who was responsible for officially identifying the five key grape varieties (out of over 70 originally grown) that are best suited to wine production in the Douro region.

In 1990 Ramos Pinto became part of the Champagne Louis Roederer group, which shares a similar family owned history and has since enjoyed significant investment and further improvements in quality. Among Port producers, Ramos Pinto enjoys the distinction of holding the largest proportion of vineyards in relation to its production, giving them a high degree of control over viticultural methods at harvest time. The house tends 187 hectares of prime vineyards in the Alto Corgo and Douro Superior areas of the famed Douro region, the mountainous valleys formed by the Douro River and its tributaries.

GERMAN IMPORTED BEERS

Since the late 1800s in the city of Stuttgart both Dinkelacker and Schwaben Brau breweries have produced a wide variety of distinctive beers. In 1996 the two breweries merged to become the largest brewery in the state of Baden Wurtenberg and still today only produce beers in accordance to the German beer purity laws the “Rhineitsgebot “ which was founded over 500 years ago in 1516.

The brewery is still run by the Dinkelacker family and continue to show its quality and traditions by winning numerous worldwide awards - including the highest award in Germany Bundespreis for business and commerce, which was won again last year.

MINERAL WATERS

Tarka Springs

Tarka Springs was started 23 years ago in 2001 when Neil Folland (Managing Director) decided to diversify the farm due to a Rugby injury which meant he was unable to be as hands on at the family farm. The water quality was tested and Neil discovered that the spring on the farm was fantastic quality and full of natural vitamins.

After receiving a grant from MAFF (The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) work soon started on converting the old milking parlour into a modern factory. With the help of a manual bottler, capper, labeller and shrink-wrapper, Tarka Springs started producing their first bottles of Artesian Spring Water.

With new clients being added to the Tarka portfolio year upon year the family run team were then able to buy automated bottlers and to design and build a custom built factory. In the following years, Tarka Springs have continued to grow, invest and employ more local people to the team. Having purchased more advanced equipment they are now running efficiently and producing between 500,000 and 600,000 bottles per month.

Born in 2012, Settle Brewery has been using traditional methods to create award-winning cask ales in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Settle Brewery sits directly alongside the famous Settle – Carlisle Railway Line in Settle, North Yorkshire. We are regularly treated to the likes of The Flying Scotsman thundering past as we are brewing some of Yorkshire's finest ales.

PRICES

All prices are exclusive of VAT and replace all previous lists. Prices are correct at time of print, any price changes that occur we will endeavour to inform our customers prior to the change

PAYMENT TERMS

Payment due 28 days from the date of invoice for approved trade accounts unless previously arranged. We reserve the right to charge interest at 3% above bank lending rate on any invoices not paid within 28 days. Accounts outstanding after the agreed payment terms will be deemed as unpaid and orders held until payment is received. In the event a customer ceases trading with us, all outstanding invoices must be paid prior to the end of the current month of notification.

GOODS

All goods are subject to availability, and remain the property of Laurence Philippe Wines Ltd., until cash or cleared funds payment received in full. Vintages are correct at time of print but due to circumstances beyond our control these may change.

DAMAGES / SHORTAGES

Damages must be notified within 3 days of delivery. Please check all deliveries with your driver, should there be any shortages or damaged goods mark them clearly on the invoice. Claims cannot be accepted unless this condition is fulfilled

CONTAINERS / DISPENSE EQUIPMENT

All containers, i.e. gas cylinders, returnable bottles, dispense equipment (coolers & dispensers), supplied, shall at all times remain the exclusive property of Laurence Philippe Wines Ltd. Deposits on returnable goods will be charged at the manufacturers recommended rate.

DELIVERY

Deliveries will be made on the customers pre-arranged delivery day, any changes will be notified in advance where possible, (i.e. bank holidays, public holidays etc.). It is always our intention to make all deliveries on time, but please allow delays due to traffic problems etc.
