A dado blade is a type of circular saw blade, usually used with a table saw or radial arm saw, used to cut dadoes or grooves in woodworking\

Dado joints are used to connect 1wo pieces of wood without the use of nails or screws. They can also be used to round off corners.

Introduction to Woods uses dados on the CD holder and the end table.

In Furniture Construction Basics a dado is used in the making the cabinet and the step stool.

For the love of Math

Math could seem like the subjec t that everyone tried to avoid, but behev it not, your teachers enjoy teaching what do. They found out in high schooT that y enjoyed certain subjects such as Algebr , PreCal, or even Stats. This impacted wh the wanted to teach.

Some teachers such as Mr. Lenz "I became a teacher because I wante to work with kids and mentored a high sch I student for three years in college, begin inc my interest in teaching high school stud nts Math has always been fun to me, seein tt as a game or puzzle that I need to solv " Teacflers like Lenz learned that helping others learn a tough subject came eas them, and it just happened to be something they enjoyed.

Mrs. Feit figured that out her love for Math during her school years, as we ll helped my friends all the time in high sc with math and I enjoyed helping themderstand and do better in class. I really ke the challenge to help all students learn, really intrigues me."

So remember that your teachers nj what they do, and they are always willin to help you. As Ms. Banks said, "Almost _ teachers are really happy to see you b after school because you're taking resp bili1y for your learning!"

Mr. Travis, a ninth-year teacher at North

shows enthusiasm while helping his students take notes. Travis tried many different w_ays of note taking, but enjoyed his smart board the most.

Singing Traditions

Through the years at North Star, the Vocal Music Department has established many traditions that the current students still carry on. One of the most popular traditions is to go out to Dairy Queen qfter a concert. Another tradition that has been around since the start is that on someone's birthday, they receive a birthday sticker to wear, and the rest of the choir sings to them. At the Holiday Concert each December, the directors invite any alumni, family, or friends who wish to participate, to come up on stage and join in the singing of the Hallelujah Chorus with the Concert Choir. Finally, to end the year, when the Vocal Music Department puts on their last concert, they perform all modern/ pop songs. These traditions have been around since the beginning, and, from the looks of it, they aren't going anywhere soon.

Lincoln, Nebraska changed a lot through, out the school year, and it wasn't just the weather.

On August 16, 2013 the long awaited Pinnacle Bank Arena opened. The arena brought big names to Lincoln like Jason Aldean, Elton John, Jay,Z, Pink, and Miranda Lambert The arena was also the new home for the Nebraska Women's and Men's basketball team.

Across from the arena The Railyard opened, an area entertainment area featuring new restaurants and The Cube, 14ft by 40ft big screen that played sporting events and Christmas

movies during the winter while people skated on the ice rink below.

Another big event in Nebraska was, of course, Husker foot-ball. With a winning record of 9-4, a lot of controversy happened during the season. To start the season, on September 16, 2013 an audio recording was released of fu Pelini using explicit words, raging aoout his (rustration with fans during the 2011 Ohio State game. In the recording, fu referred to Husker fans as "fair--weather--fans." Pelini later responded to the audio with, "an apology for a comment he made two years ago."

Nebraska Men's basketball had a rather exciting season mak-ing it to the NCAA Basketball tournament since 1988. The Huskers went 19--13 with their National (})ach of the Year, Tim Miles.

Many fads roamed through school halls in the 2013--2 0 ~ school year. The most apparent ones were seen being worn by students. Girls dressed in leggings, cardigans, and scarves. The r popular shoes seen on girls' feet were UGGs and G:,mbat boots. Birkenstock sandals and Sperry T op--Sider boat shoes were pop u • in the summer.

Boys sported tanks tops that were commonly referred to _ "bro--tanks" and a rise in sweater vest and plaid shirts were worn . The obsession with Nike Elite socks still hadn't subsided, meanil that boys were still willing to pay $12 for a single pair of socks. 'r could also find students walking around with Beats around their necks

of the most common was the iPhone 5. It seemed pOp uIa r like almost every student had one. Popular apps that appeared on almost every phone included I\~IOW Netflix, Pandora, and iTunes Radio. Netflix al, I \I lowed its customers to watch unlimited movies and 1V shows for a small monthly fee. Pandora

2 o13 allowed people to create their own radio stations. • iTunes Radio came out with the iOS 7 update, and was similar to Pandora by providing a radio

2 0 l 4 service to its listeners. No matter how tame or crazy the idea, 2013,2014 graced us with many

fads.

A special thanks goes to Mike Diffenderfer, for his always needed assistance in the completion of this publication. To our student videographer Ben Hartzell thank you for your amazing patience and cooperation in shooting videos to make this yearbook special. The time you spent editing videos will always be remembered in the pages of this book. An immense amount of thanks goes to our ever present and glorious leader, Cyndy Maddux. Without her guidance and understanding, the whole yearbook would've been filled with our "craptastic" pages. On behalf of the whole yearbook staff we'd like to give you the sincerest thank you for not only your design and story wisdom but the daily laughs and advice that extended to all aspects of our lives. You touched each and everyone of us in an unique way. You will always have our gratitude for being the best advisor a staff could hope for.
