School may not be the place to always be, but it is the place to learn. Once a student enters Mickle they are expected to learn and to particip ate in their classes. Some classes are hard work and sometimes boring while others are pure enjoyment. But learning is only a part of the day. After all the work is done people love to socialize.

School is a place for kids to learn buteve('l moreso,a place for them to experience new occurences. Students experiment with new friendships, new sporting events, and many activities that were once unfamiliar. But by attending school, we become aware of many important activities. Our groups of friends that we associate with lead a very important part of our lives. We've all taken our turn attending football games, dances, skating, and the inevitable bumming around at the malls. Whether one is stereotyped as a punk, freak, jock, prep, skater, or not at all, friends make an impression on us. They mold us and they change us.

Ninth grade is going to be memorable to some, and to others, just another year down and three more to go. This year we have met new friends and become better friends with others. We also went through different phases of maturing . Ninth grade is a year that means a lot, like promotion , going on to high school, and, yes , we finally get the big hall.

This year the main focus of most of the faculty members was the middle level education. Middle level education concerns the needs of the seventh and eighth grade students at Mickle. In some ways these needs were met at the seventh grade level was by moving all the seventh grade teachers to the same hallway. The lockers for the seventh grade students were also put In that same hallway.
This year the seventh grade teachers were grouped into two different teams -a Blue team and a Red team . The counselors were also put on one of these teams The team
leaders for these students were : Mrs Euler for the Blue team and Mr. Holmes and Mrs. Ainslie for the Red team. These teachers also shared a common plann ing period.
Another goal the faculty has tried to accomplish Is the Improvement of the te,acher-student and parent relat ionship. so that students, and t11elr parents, would fe,el more free to talk to a teacher about a problem or a concern.
As you can see, the teachers and the staff here at Mickle were very committed to the middle level education

When you go _in to tryout, Mrs. Forney loo~s to see if you 're a hardworkerandtalent is nice. When she picks songs she trys to find some that could have g ood choreography. She says the kids enjoy the new fr iends a nd going out of the school during the day. She has no set number of songs They order one outfit to see if it 's what the students want .They usua ll y p ick the girls dresses f irst and then the guys outfit.
Mrs. Forney likes all kinds of music and finds the kids like the more current music. She tries to pick current and popular music. Some music she gets by requests and if it fits the voices that she has. There are usually 30 to 40 kids but she would never take more than 45 in the class. She would like to have about a dozen boys in the class. They learn about six to seven songs per performances.

There are 29 people in orchestra. The most popular instrument is the violin; there are seven people playing them. The orchestra plays classical and pop music. They have concerts 3-4 times a year. There are many advantages to orchestra. They have district competitions in May. There is only one hour of practice per week that is required.

The yearbook class has 18 students and is taught by Mrs. Euler. This class publishes the school yearbook. It's not all fun and games, though. We take pictures of various activities and classes, do interviews, and then make a write-up. We also make the pictures we take fit into our layout plans with a proportion wheel.

The most exciting thing about teaching journalism for Mrs. Hammer is working with the kids on a one-toone basis . The most common mistakes made by the students is in proofreading. Mrs. Hammer likes getting to know different kids. Whoever is the most interested or brings the news gets .to do the article. The journalism students enjoy knowing the news before everyone else does. The school paper is an important part of a school for a long time to come .

In 2-D Art they do drawing and printmaking. In 3-D they mostly do pottery. Survey art is the beg inning art class and studio is the more advanced class. Mr. Reader 's favorite project is the pottery Some of the advantages of tak ing an art c lass are: no home work, and it's a break from the books . A disadvantage is that there isn't enough money to buy all the supplies Mr . Reeder would li ke . The students ' favorite projects are tie dyes, pottery and printing.
Red Cross has been going on i n the schools for twenty years . The ma in purpose of Red Cross is to promote community help for the needy and elderly . The Red Cross does activities for both the community and the school. The group is led by Ms. Bates and Ms. Smith. They enjoy doing projects with the 30-some kids . The group runs from fall to spring. During this time some things going on usually are the food drive, dances, caroling and some Halloween activities.

This year's volleyball team was an excellent team. Coach Reeder was extremely proud because they made it to city tournaments and finished second. The team's speciatty was passing and setting. If there was a weakness it was height. All in all they had a great year.
The vars ity vo ll eyball team was espec ia ll y cooperative th is year . Coach Mercer was very satisfied with his varsity basketball team this year. He felt that after losing the first three games they continued to work hard and kept up their confidence. This year's team was not as strong physically as teams in the past, but have strongly improved, as well as others. Many boys on the team did a good job of scoring and on defense. Mr . Mercer has been a coach at Mickle for four years and plans to come back as a coach again next year.
