Thfs 4ears Varsft4 cheerleadlng squad matt have been one of the most diverse squads 4et, conslstf ng of seven Senfors, one Junfor, and sfx Sophomores. an cheering for the roctet cause. Despfte the differences In ages as wen as the dfverslt4 of the gf rls, the4 became more than Just teammates, the4 became Jffe-Jong frf ends. Whenever 4ou have a group of people spendf ng so much tf me together, there wm alwa4s be dffffcultles. but true frfends stfct ft out, and thfs was once again proven b\f this 4ear's squad.
Sfnce the begfnnfng of the season, the squad made tf me, despite their hectfc schedules, to practice and other actfvftfes to get to know each other and bond. Wfth actfvftfes rangfng from a lfmo ride In the summer, to a food bank scavenger hunt fn the fan, the gfrls used there fmagfnatf on and creatfvft4 to create fun an 4ear round.
The squad's larger sfze made them loot better then previous 4ears, as wen as matfng thefr proJectfon stronger. Wortfng an summer at tumblf ng classes, some gf rls, as man4 as three practices a weet, helped them gaf n flexfbflft4, better Jumps. as wen as fmprovfng thefr confidence out on the ffeld. The gfrls accomplf shed a Jot at the classes and that gave them more energ4 to perform at games.
Along wfth tumblfng classes an summer, the gfrls also worked hard at practices to loot for good this 4ear. Practices started at 6 a.m. and usuan4 lasted past s.
The4 also spent -4 da4s at NCA camp to fmp rove on thefr stms ear14 fn the summer. The squad toot home three spfrlt sticks. a team award for the most squad spfrft and bonding, numerous An-Amerfcan nomfnatfons. two an American cheerleaders (Clal re Qrow and tton4 Wf11fts) and a top team nomlnatf on.
Senfor Clafre Qrow, an accomplfshed captain, who toot
home an Excenence fn Leadership award at the NCA camp thfs summer for the second 4ear fn a row, thfnts the 4ear has gone smoothl\f. The onl\f problems faced were ones expected from a group of gfrls spending so much time together.
She thfnts the changes this 4ear, such as the new coach and tumblfng classes, have not onl\f helped wfth team bonding. but also helped to dlversff4 the cheerleaders and help them Incorporate new cheers and stunts. Clafre Is sad to see her high school cheerleadlng career end. but loots forward to watching future cheerleaders take over the responsfbflft4 of Jeadfng the crowd.
"After thfs 4ear. cheerleadfng wm Jose several gfrls to graduation and other Interests, but the coaches are great and I know the future cheerleaders wm onl\f get better."
The focus of thfs 4ears squad was to change thfngs up and mate thfs 4ear 's gfrls stand out. The4 worked at thfs an summer with the tumblf ng and the new coach brought In from East hfgh school.
As ff the hectic sports schedule Jsn't enough for the gfrls, the4 cheer at ever4 home basketball, footban. and vone4ban game, the4 are also preparing for upcoming events such as the Strutter show. The gfrls plan to show off there dance stms alongsfde the Northeast dance team and the dance teams and cheerleaders of schools across Lfncoln and even surrounding towns at the show. The4 are also preparing for competftlons begfnnl ng soon. For some of the gf rls the competftfve aspect of cheerleadfng Is rean4 what fts all about, for others ft's all about the games.
The gfrls deffnftel4 do thefr part fn el)couraglng Northeast athletfcs this 4ear. The Senfor gfrls made sure the 4ounger cheerleaders were prepared to lead the squad next 4ear and hoped that thefr experfences thfs 4ear were memorable.
The 2004-2005 Junior Varslt4 cheerlead1ng squad faced man4 challenges and setbacks Includlng adJustl ng to a new coach, as well as loslng several squad memebers half wa4 through the season, but came out on top.
ttlghtlfghts for the glrls Included giving their all at the Shrine Bowl parade and 4e11fng with the fans at the game . Camp w also a challange , but fun time for the glrls. Taking home the Teamwork Award, JV Top Team award, and also took home two Spirit Sticks. The squads summer captains Ashle4 Kassebaum and Jf11 Watts led the squad through hot summer practices and camp. helplng them Improve their Jumps, projection, and overall technique: that prepared them for the school 4ear and cheering at games.
Sophomore Laura Draper addresses some of the challenges. "I lfke Mlchelle (head coach) she 's making the effort to make us look reall4 good.'' Laura's glad to be on a squad with the glrls she cheered with last 4ear, but also enJ04s the new a~dltlons. She sa4s she gets along well with the freshmen on the squad dlsplte the age difference, and that camp helped bring the gl rls closer together.
AdJustl ng to the new coach Mlchelle was a change for the glrls. MlcheJJe came to the squad right after tr4outs In March and became the squad's main coach: running practices and preparing them for competitions and other big events such as camp, Booster Blastoff, and the Natlonal Quard performance.
84 the end of the 4ear the chaJJenges the4 faced earl4 on onl4 brought them closer together. The4 developed frelndshlps that would last all through high school, and went through experiences that wm Influence them throughout their lfves.

"I thou9ht cheerleadfn9 would be a 900d wa4 to start off m4 freshman 4ear. I wanted to become active at Northeast and I thou9ht cheerleadfn9 ould be perfect. " stated Kaftl4n Powell. The4 performed at Booster Blastoff to tart off the school 4ear. This squad Is a ood representation of Northeast. The4 eall4 show true heart for Rocket spirit.
The Cheerleaders not onl4 encour9 e athletes at the 9ames. the4 also help out around the school. This 4ear the reserve cheerleaders were able to help with the homecomfn9 dance. The4 spent a lot of time puttfn9 up decorations and plannfn9 the bf9 nf9ht.
The 9frls have became ver4 close over the 4ear with the help of Coach Shannon Qufble. and Captains Tabatha Dambach and Jessica Navratfl. The4 keep ever4one workfn9 hard so the4 can look their ver4 best whfle cheerfn9. Team unft4 allowed the team to pass on school spirit more easlllf with all of them rel4fn9 on one another.

"Bleacher mania would have to be m4 favorfte cheer." commented Kaftl4n Powell. Some people don't think of cheerleadfn9 befn9 hard but these 9frls put a lot of time and hard work In what the4 do. The 9frls did a 9reat Job this 4ear with ever4thfn9 the4 did. All of their hard work reall4 paid off.
The Freshmen Cheerleadlng squad this 4ear Is full of pride, perseverance. determlnatl on. and most lmportantltf, school spirit. This 4ear 's squad has eight bright 4oung glrls. The team worked hard together to learn their cheers and dance routines. Thetf started their high school cheerleadlng experience btf perf ormlng In front of Judges at a tr4out In Matf 2004. The entire week before thetf learned a cheer and a dance routine. The Judges chose the glrls that performed well and stood out In their e4es. These eight glrls formed the freshmen squad.
Even though tr4outs were over. the glrls had a lot of hardwork left to do. Thetf started after-school practices. During the summer. the squad had 6:00 a.m. practices. In edition to earltf morning practices. thetf went to camp In Okoboji to learn new dances routines and new cheers. Camp helped Improve the glrls' Jumps. flexlblllttf, projection. and technique, It also helped them gain more confidence In themselves. These new routines were soon put to test at the Shrine Bowl. First. thetf showed their spirit and shined In the parade. After the parade, the squad pumped up the fans during the Shrine Bowl game. Once school began thetf resumed their afterschool practices. All their hardwork paid off, because at Booster Blastoff thetf proved that thetf have what It tates to be called a Northeast cheerleader.
As the school 4ear began. the glrls found their schedules to be a llttle more hectic. However. thetf were stlll dedicated to supporting the Rockets at all freshmen football and vollet4ball home games. During the winter season. thetf danced at freshmen basketball games. Coach Shannon Qulble sa4s. "These glrls wort well together. Thetf worked hard to get where thetf are now:· The Freshmen Squad Is dedicated to cheerleadlng and to bringing out the Rocket spirit In all Northeast students.
Man(f challenges arlsed as the school 4ear continued. However, the glrls found wa4s to overcome them and become stronger as a team. "These glrls have what It takes to succeed In ever4thlng. There Is no doubt In mtf mind that the squad rs stronger than when thetf started and thetf have made lastlng f rf endshlps. " Qulble stated. The experiences these glrls have shared WIii be with them and
wm leave an Impact on them that wlll be·with them for the rest of their llves
Rl9ht1 Trainers not onltf work hard to tape up and Ice Injuries to keep athletes healthtf, thetf also have to keep track of the Injured. Trainer Danielle
The4 don't gear up with a football helmet. kneepads. or a Jerse4. but the4 come prepared with bandages. athletlc tape and Ice packs. You won't find these lndMduals making the winning touchdown with seconds -left on the clock. and 4ou won't find them hitting an ace serve to 11ft he team to state pla4offs. However. 4ou WIii Ind them read4 to help 4ou tape a sprained lttle finger. or Ice a Injured shoulder whenver needed. These lndlvlduals can be see wearing the Jackets that ldentlf4 them as the trainers.
Veteran trainers Shella Lemmert and Danlelle Smltf\...McVlcker along with Senior student trainer Angle Schllltz and Juniors Chelsea Reinke. Ashle4 Hines. and Ame Walter pla4 a vltal role In athletlcs at Northeast.
"I think the most Important part of being a trlaner Is keeping athletes health4 so the4 can continue to compete." sa4s Junior student trainer. Ame Walter.
These students spent the summer at a cllnlc at East High School learnlng to be trainers. The students were taught all the basics of being a trainer. from taping up an Injured finger to becoming certified to perform CPR.
The trainers and student trainers attend all major athletlc events. The4 are also avallable ever4 da4 after school to Ice a shoulder or tape an ankle before practice.
However. being a trainer ts not all work. It can be fun too. Trainers enJ04 working with the diverse students that come In for their help.
Smftf\...McVfcter sa4s. "It's fun working with athletes and seeing them grow In the four 4ears the4 are here. "
for Schllltz. the best part about being a "trainer In training" rs being Involved.
"It 's fun to get to know people that 4ou wouldn't usuall4 get to meet."
The traf ners also get to miss classes once fn a whlle to attend the out-of-town games.
So. don't look for the trainers fn the newspaper after a great game. but 4ou can look for them on the sfdelfnes. working hard and having tun.

There Is somethf ng about football season that changes Northeast ttfgh School. The plat4ers are at their prime, the coaches are rarfn' to go and the Rocket Rowdies are In full effect. There Is nothing quite like being a part of the football tradition at Rocket ttfgh. The botfs worked hard all summer to prepare for what thetf hoped would be one of their best seasons tfet. The Rockets were returning a lot of experience on both the offensive and defensive lines, not to mentf on the most experienced quarterback In the clttf, Ttfler Stephenson. Things looked promising for Coach Dave Svehla and his Rocket squad. The team hoped to make a name for themselves as thetf opened their season with an Inner-clttf match up agafnst Lincoln ttlgh. The score was tied 6- 6 after the first 12 mlnutes and the Rockets were traflfng btf nine going Into the final period of the game. Northeast got some help from Senior Jeremtf Peters who Intercepted a pass and returned ft 23 t4ards to cut the deficit to 13- 15. After trading touchdowns the score was tied at 21 as time ran out. The Rockets struck first In the overtime period with a field goal with Senf or Juan tternandez. The LfnlcS bounced back with a touchdown. giving Northeast their first loss of the season.
After a dfsappof ntfng defeat btf Lincoln ttfgh, the Rockets faced their clttf rival, Lincoln Southeast, Just a week later. Northeast's performance was like night and datf as the squad posted a 34- 19 win over the Knights. Stephenson led the team with three touchdowns and 1o1 t4ards on 20 carries.
So, the Rockets got their revenge against Southeast but their first true test would come as thetf traveled to Omaha for their first aWatf game agafnst Omaha Benson. The Rockets proved themselves as the4 pounded the Bunnies 44-19.
The squad was readtf to dance as their ttomecomf ng weekend approached, and the Fremont Tigers were about to get their parttf crashed. Junf or runnf ng back Rocktf Wratf set the tone for the Rockets earltf when he scored on a 26-tfard draw platf putting the botfS up 7-0 In the first quarter. Stephenson scored on a 55-tfard run In the second period and the Rockets were up btf 1.fat half. Wra4 struck again In the third quarter boosting the team to a 21-pofnt lead. Junior running back John Fisher came In to make his mark In the fourth quarter, rushing 11 times for 72 4ards and a touchdown. giving Northeast a 28-0 vfctortf over the Tigers.
The Rockets' confidence soared going Into their match up with Norfolk ttlgh School. Stephenson was sidelined with a fever so Sophomore Brent Wells made his big debut as quarterback. Wells helped the Rockets rall4 and kept the game
close and entertafnf ng until the final pla4s. The game looked as ff ft was headed for overtime as the final minute ticked aWatf. With onl4 seconds remaining. Fisher pushed his Watf four 4ards for a touchdown puttfng the Rockets up 14- 7 and gfvfng them the WI n In the A-1 district opener.
Next came the East ttfgh Spartans. The game was tied after the first quarter and Northeast onl4 led btf ten at halftime, but In the second half, ft was a different stortf. The Wolf Pack shut down East's pa$slng game and the Rocket offense scored at wfll. The team pounded It 's wa4 to a 52-14 win and Improved to 5-1 overall.
The bo4s were looking to keep the ball rolling as the4 traveled to North Platte for their match up with the Bulldogs. Gu ys and Dolls has two main story lines The first involves Sky Masterson, a gambler, pla ye d b y Brian W allingford, and Sergeant Sarah Bro w n, the head of the Save -a- Soul mission, pla yed by Lindsey Tomes Sk y makes a bet w ith Nathan Detroit, pla yed b y Logan Reising , that he can take Sarah to Havana, Cuba. Sarah needs more sinners to co me to her mission or it wi ll be closed. Sk y promises Sarah a roomful of sinners at the ne xt meeting if she comes to Havana wi th him. The second conflict is bet w een Nathan Detroit, who runs an illegal crap game, and his f iance of fourteen years, Miss A delaide, a sho w girl, pla yed b y Casey Hershe y. Miss A delaide had been telling lies to her mother about ho w her and Nathan w ere alread y married and with children, so she w as in a hurr y to get married. There are many factors that made the fall play a hit, the humorous plot line and the witty characters were only pawns in the whole equation , but the people who devoted hours and hours of their time to make the play a success are the real heroes On any given night you can find people studying for the SATs, catching up on the latest events, and playing a game of BS The ambiance backstage is electric, stories and Jokes are constantly flowing as we are constantly being reminded to be quiet so that the audience doesn't hear us out on stage, there are people in hidden noo s conversing, and actors practicing loo Ing over lines one last t ime before taking stage once again
The play was about how Howard Brandt is trying to graduate but he can't because he didn't turn his zoology term paper In to Professor Bea n on time . He didn't get it done earlier because he lives in a boarding house with two very distracting collegemates, Vic Lewis, the 11 artist," and Ed Burns , "the chemistry student," who are always causing a ruckus For example, when Howard's girlfriend, Anne Purcell, as shim if her father would be able to room with him for graduation because there are no more rooms left in any of the hotels Once Mr. Purcell arrives, Vic mistakes him for a model and forces him to dress up and pose· as a Bolshe vik
Professor Bea n had given Howard an extension on his paper as long as he turned it in by 3 pm the day before graduation . However, Howard 's aunt, who has been sending him money to go to Brookfield College, decides to drop in for his graduation Howard now has to pick up his aunt from the train station and doesn't have time to turn in his term paper until 3 : 15, causing Professor Bean to fail him. A unt Maude hears of her nephew's predi ca ment, she decides to take some action, she writes Profess or Bean a letter claiming that she is a German sc ientist who is in to wn and would like to speak with him about his "magnificent work" with slugs She learns all she can about bu gs and slugs and manages to pull the stunt off and get "the Pr of" t o r econsider ac cept ing Howard's paper and unintentionally ends up fall ing in love with Professor Bean
Now all he the Pr ofes sor has to do is talk Dr Dixon, the President of the -College, and get Howard Brant be put on the graduat ion list, the president, however, wants nothing to do with Howard Mr Purcel l was supposed to donate money to the college so that they co uld bui ld a new .f;Cience building, but he had mysterioulsy changed his
mind, and since Mr. Purcell had been placed under Howard 's car· he feared Howard had something to do with it
It was once again up to the clever women in the play to set things straight Howard's girlfriend (Anne Purcell) had an ingenious plan in which she would pretend to be dying and In her last minutes she as sher father to sign a piece of paper that states that he, Mr Purcell, would donate the science building ~ long as Howard Brant was allowed to graduate The plan work momentarily but at least they got the signed statement and all of the problems were solved, right? /rang Howard's conscience got to him and he couldn't bring himself to giving D Dixon the statement, instead, he faced the consequences of i actions and began to pack. Once Mr. Purcell realized how mucr 1 daughter really loved Howard and he saw Howard's honesty 1, loyalty, he decided to donate the science building anyway an , ensured that Howard graduated the following morning
After war ing hard for the past few weeks on memorizing lines, keeping up with homework, and giving outstanding performances, the cast and crewmembers were exhausted In those few weeks the two sets of casts had become ve ry close . By Jennifer SuhrHave you ever asked yourself, "How can I get involved and more informed about LNE? " The answer is the Student Council.
Student Council was made up of 38 members this year, eight of which are officers.
The group has many different reasons for existing , but the main goal if to voice the opinions of the student body.
"We ' re the connection between the administration and the student body ," says senior president, Adina Tran.
One of the main projects for Student Council every year is Homeless Awareness. This is a tradition where , for 24 hours, the Student Council members stay outside. This project raises $50 per person , which is then donated to the Matt Talbot kitchen. Another major event was Hallopalooza. This event is a carnival for elementary students at Halloween and took place at Pershing Elementary this year. There were games and indoor trick-or treating . Over 1.000 kids were in attendance this year. Hallopalooza is a charity event, which

"We've worked really hard this year and i'm happy with how well we have done what needed to be done, " commented senior Ryan Walbridge, who is also the president of FBLA this year.
Not only has the club learned about such things as business , but they also were involved in helping out the community. They volunteered their time at the Ambassador and played BINGO with the elderly, and also made food baskets during the holiday season.
FBLA gives you skills for your future and it's a great way to dive into the business world and have fun with it.

assadors have a variety of jobs to do and everyday. They give tours to the students that come into the building and they also help tutor students who are having troubles in their classes You will see Student Ambassadors around the hallways delivering passes from the counselors. Although running passes isn't part of the job title, ambassadors do anything and everything to help keep things flowing in the counselor 's office. The Ambassadors also go and help out any student that has an injury that will re strict them from being able to do school work. Ambassadors will go to their class and take notes for injured students.
Student Ambassadors get the position
by picking up an apllication form in the counselors office. You have to be a junior or a senior, have a 3.5 GPA or higher, have good attendance , and be considered a leader by your peers and the staff. Marilynn Peaslee is the director of the Student Ambassador program. She is the one that will look over your application and approve you if you are qual ifi ed. Although becoming a student ambasssador is considered a very prestig iou s pos iton within the school, not every person has the qualifications. By becoming a Student Ambassador you are recognized as a leader by not only your peers but by all of the staff at Lincoln Northeast , which is a honor any person should be grateful to have.
If getting out of class to play games with elementary students sounds fun, then Pershing Pals is for you . Every other Thursday of the mont h, a select group of Northeast students travel to Pershing Elementa ry School to hang out with a bunch of future Rockets. The pairs can choose between games like , "Go Fish ," "Tw ister ," and the infamous "Box Hockey. " Or for the more low -keyed coup les , some choose to sit around and catch up on their lost time . The elementary students are chosen by the counselors at Pershing because they have learning disabilit ies , issues at home , or they just need a friend. Pershing Pals gives them the opportun ity to vent and spend some t ime with someone who truly cares about them

Well, take it to student mediation of course. The group of senior mediators are all friendly and helpful individuals striving to make Northeast a better place.
as The process is simple and the ·ust- re sults are mind - boggling. A slip is ste r fill ed out by a student, teacher or ur administrator referring students Students are then called into the ~al l counseling center and taken into a private room. The mediators

are involved.
The student who initiat ed the mediation begins to talk first and through a series of quest ions and explanations the student mediators assist the students in working out their differences.
At the end of the mediation, the students write out an agreement and both peers are required to sign it. In some cases, the mediators do a follow-up meeting to make sure that the agreement is working and everything is going smoothly
So when you and your friend aren't getting along, don ' t forget about the useful resources right here at Northeast. The student mediators are always willing to help!

Tobkin, Leidig and Morton qualified in oral interpretation of drama. Nickolaus qualified in informative. Morton also qualified in poetry.
Speech team members chose from 10 different types of speeches: informative, entertainment, humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, persuasive, extemporaneous , impromptu, duo, oral interpretation of drama, and poetry.
According to the team members, the sponsor, Ms. Sarah Skean, plays a very vital role in the success of the team. The members meet after school to practice and prepare their performances.
Junior Amanda Woodward said, "Without Ms. Skean, the team wouldn't be squat. The time she is willing to give out is amazing. Speech is just a really awesome, amazingly fun time!"
The Debate team sent two students to the state tournament. Last year's State Congress winner, Junior Brian Stevens, returned for his third year of debate, along with Senior Jonathan Ren. The Debate team welcomed several new members first semester. One of them was Senior Ambyr Moore.
"Debate made me think harder about things and it makes me see both sides of opinions ," said Moore.
The team took home several medals and trophies during the year. The season ended with the State Debate Tournament in March at Kearney.

By Maria MorenoAcademic Decathlon is an academic club at Northeast in which you have a big binder of information to read through and an assigned book to read and then the members take subject tests on the information they received.
The information in these binders ranges from history to astronomy, and though reading through the whole thing is not required , it is highly suggested in order to do well on the subject tests.
Most students got involved in this club after taking Mr. Eckman ' s math class. Mr
Eckman is the sponsor of 'Acadec ', Mat h Club, and Quiz Bowl. After getting involved in one of the clubs, members decided to join the other clubs as well (this explains why you see the same people on all of these pages).
Over the years, the members have learned that guessing is better than nothing, this is espec ially true in Academic Decath lon. Their motto is "When in doubt, 'ACADEC B'" meaning that when you don't know what the answer is, bubble in ' A' then ' C' and so on.

Qu iz Bowl is not li ke the other academ ic clubs at Northeast ; unlike " Acadec " and Math C lub , you can never r eall y prepare yourse lf fo r what quest ions yo u w ill be faced w ith , rather , st udents pr epare for compet itions by doing pra ct ice rounds afterschool You may be ask ed w ho the author o f Far From the M add i ng Crowd or how to spe ll the name of t he c hem ica l element whose symbol is " Y " or who owns the Green Bay Packers. On a daily basis, these highly educated students figure out many challeng ing math problems. They practice everyday after school solving problems with the help of Mr. Steve Eckman.
To prepare for competitions they are given practice tests All of the students go around and ask each other question about the math problems. Everyone is willing to help each other out.
The Math Club participates in Quiz Bowls, Academic Decathalons , and Math Competitions.
At Brownell Talbot School in Omaha,
the team got second place overall in the Math Competition , while others got first place awards for individual competitions. This year at the State Fair Quiz Bowl the group got 1st place.
They also went to UN L Math day and Hastings Math Competition.
To raise money to go to the competitions, they work concessions at UNL events.
The group had a lot of fun this year and became very close. They should have another great year next year.

NHS members work diligently to keep up good grades and to fulfill the 30 hours of community service r equ irement to wear the prominent tassel at graduation.
" I like the fact that you get to work with people that have the same desires as you and you get to see the results of the community service we do first hand," stated Bic kford.

Whether someone is 30 years old or 16, the same questions and concerns cross their mind. Diapers, formula, clothing, and especially daycare are things that a baby has to have, especially if the mother is still in high school. Many young mothers can say that one of their biggest hurdles is to find somewhere to leave their child while they are at school. They don 't want to be to far from them , but there aren't many daycares around Northeast. This is where administration stepped in and decided to add the Northeast Daycare once again.
As of January 3, 2005 Shelly Hacke, Jessica Gardner, Beth Leypoldt, and many mothers to come, once again have
somewhere to leave their child during the day. They also have peace of mind that they will be taken care of properly. Deb Olson and Rebecca Masonbrink are the caretakers of the nursery and they treat the babies with the love and kindness that they would give their own.
The babies also seem to be adapting well to the new surroundings and having playmates around also makes the time f1y by until the school day is over.
Teenage mothers these days are having to drop out of school because they are not able to find someone to take care of the babies. Now that the daycare re-opened, hopefully dropping out won 't be the only option for teenage mothers all around.
At three months , Aderha and her mom Beth Leypoldt have had sleepless nights , dirty diapers , and of course the endless amounts of baby formula , but with each coming day the tasks at hand of become easier to handle Having Aderha around has made a big impact on Beth 's life and she wouldn 't trade it for anything .
"The Daycare is nice because we can go to school and still know where and what our babies are doing."Clockwise from the Middle:: Jessica Gardner and her baby DeMillio spend time together during a busy school day. DeMil io seems to enjoy having his mommy stop in to check up on him .
These six letters stand for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual , Transgender, Straight All iance. This group tries to help others understand what some people have to go through just for being different. This club doesn't persuade people to change who they are, rather they try to make them feel comfortable about who they are.
GLBTSA isn't just a gay/straight alliance. It's an open club for anyone and everyone. There is only one requirement, you must be open-minded. In other words EVERYONE is welcomed, as long as they 'r e accepting of others and are okay with difference. "During an average club meeting we discuss equity issues and rights. We strive to bring out awareness and acceptance of equal rights.
Homosexuality is just one example of the many topics we discuss ." Said Junior Nichole Reynolds.
The people in this club have a special day to honor those who have been quiet about who they are. The National Day of Si lence is a day where people get the chance to represent those who for years have remained silent about their sexuality. ' Those who choose to participate wear throughout the day and stay silent out of respect for those who have to be quiet. "It's a tribute to closeted people." Stated Reynolds. Pride Prom is an annual dance sponsored by LPS GSA's and it's held at one of the high schools, it's basically a ' safe ' dance where anyone can go and feel comfortable and proud of who they are.
The Northeast As ian Club is for students who want to come together w ith a common background and celebrate Asian cu l ture The students met and d iscussed issues , pl a nned activit i es together and he l p out the commun i ty when they can. They also celebrated the Lunar New Year which is a very important custom for them Th is year , they made or igam i flowers and distributed them along with fortune coook ies to the staff.
Ciao Nguyen said , " We get to do things outside of school and build stronger bonds w ith students from our culture ."
The club usually met once a month and somet i mes more depending on the topic. This
year the club sold egg rolls for fundrais ing , along with t -shirts for advertising. They also planned an end of the year trip. Northeast's Asian Club also worked with other Asian Clubs from different schools and held dances
Northeast's Asian Club was very diverse th is year , with 6 members who were not Asian. The club accepts people of all races and backgrounds.
" Everyone th inks we ' re exclusive , but we ' re not just Asians. There are people from other backgrounds who get to know about our culture ," says Nghan Nguyen.
No matter what background or culture you are from there is a place for you at Asian Club where you can be comfortable with who you are.

With a whole new year, full of all new memories, the yearbook staff is hard at work to capture them all. This years yearbook staff has been busy capturing all of the memories throughout the past year. With many new faces to the staff, including new teacher Mrs. Susan Helmink, the yearbook staff had a lot to learn. Getting use to the new programs and different ways of doing things was a little hard on everyone. " The new programs were hard to get use to at first , but once we figured out how to use it,
-Editor Becky Zelada it produced a better yearbook, " stated Senior Assistant Editor Allie Carter. "The yearbook is such a great way to catch all the memories that come from a high school year, " stated Senior photographer Amanda Koepping. With a whole new look for the yearbook, all in color, the yearbook staff is excited to see the results. "We ' ve been working hard all year long so that we can produce the best yearbook possible for our school,"commented Senior Alyssia Walentine.
"Even though we have a lot of hard times, I wouldn't change anything about the experiences and the times I've had with the staff."

Being a part of the newspaper staff carries a lot of r espons ibility. Sixteen students have an important job to report the news once a month to the whole school. These students spend countless hours not only in class but during their lun ch t i me or after school in order to get the " The Northeastern " to the printer on time
" The whole first semester I didn ' t leave school until 5 p.m. trying to get things done. It ' s stressful at times but when you see people reading the finished product, it's rewarding, " said Senior Editor Lind-

There is a new addition to th is year ' s newspaper staff. After 32 years of service to the school, Daryl Blue decided to retire at the end of the 2003 -2004 school year. Susan Helmink joined the Northeast staff this year and is doing a great job. " I like the diversity here. It's a big change from Marysv ille, KS ," said Helmink.
" We all miss Blu e but I love Mrs. Helmink , she ' s a great teacher," said Schoeneck

SVv 1mmers are a unique bunch
\'/e don't take sw1mm1ng lightly It isn't Just a sport, it is a way of life These past four years have proven our ded1cat1on to this program and the Vvay of life that folloVvs
As freshmen, none of us Vvere really sure that Vve would make 1t But Vve did Somehow Vve made 1t and the a1¼kVvard, gangly bodies ch anged into confident athletes ready for anything
This change wasn't easy and 1t Vvasn't qu1c For four years, we surrendered our bodies, energy and all free time to ten practices a week ,'/e Vval ed around school chlorinated for four months straight and ought through the fatigue to get done whjt needed to be done 1n the rest of our lives
\'/e gave so much, but it's nothing compared to Vvhat we will take with us The discipline, the strength, the attitude, the courage, and, most importantly, the friendships Vve have made Vv 111 be Vv1th us as long as we remember the time spent 1n the pool at L E.
Congratulations four -year senior SVv1mmers, we made 1t

My Dau g hter
By Alice CollinsAs t ime w ill come and go sometimes like a distant w ind
My life sees many changes
A nd I' m thankful for true fr iends
But as I long for wisdom
A nd search for that distant light
I th ink of yesterdays
When I watched you sleep at night
And noth ing that I touch
In a sometimes lonely world
Will ever mean as much
As the love of my little girl.

Graduation is a time For feeling very proud, For thinking lots of lovely thoughts And saying them out loud. It's a time for feeling love About to overflow, And just before it leaps its banks, To let the loved one know.
And so we are very proud of you For being who you are, For making something of yourself, For making it this far .
We're proud because we are a part Of everything you do.
This time's the time to say how much
Love we have for you.
