I think marching band was great. We did a lot of stuff differently and we tried to really put the fun factor in this year, that's why we picked Wicked. I think everyone really worked hard but I think the best thing about it was that everyone really enjoyed it. It was just as much fun playing it the last time, as it was the first It was one of those shows were you wanted to work on it every day because you wanted to get better. For me, it was an incredible time We didn't just want the destination, we enjoyed the journey It wasn't kinder or oentler, it was ju st more fun.

Lincoln High School is still urider construdion with many changes this year.

http://lhs.lps.org
Crowded halls , new students wandering throughout the building with no idea where their next classes are - Let alone where they are trying to go now. The construction has turned the school into a maze. What is this place I'm talking about, where are we, you ask?
RIGHT HERE
Welcome to Lincoln High where everythjng is full of changes and the students along with the staff are just stuck i n the middle.
With over 1,600 students and staff, how do we stay "llnked "? ~ Our answer would have to be Facebook is growing in popularity every day, more than half of the students and staff at LHS hav e a l acebook, and if you're reading this right now, you have the Lincoln High version of Facebook right it your hands. The pictures and stories in this book will be here forever. We are all here at Lincoln High getting our education to start the next chapter in our lives. We'll always . remember where we came from no matter where we go in life. The friends and memories may fade but iffliO•=•=•!~ will help us remember those things such as who took home the crown as homecoming king or queen or the plays that showed throughout the year. Here at Lincoln High students are all treated with fairness and respect by the students and staff. The biggest event at Lincoln High is the construction that has changed the look of the entire school. Construction has "plagued" Lincoln High for about three years but the school and it's members will come out of this stronger than ever and we were linked through this al-I the way. Out of every school in Lincoln Nebraska, Lincoln High School has been here the longest. The opening of Lincoln High was the year of 1871. It was in the location of what is now Pershing Auditorium located in Downtown Lincoln. Then the school moved to it's rnrrent location in 1915. We have the tradition, diversity, unity, and excellence that some schools may not have. What does that mean? It means ... Be PROUD that you're a Link! -
LINCOLN HIGH MAY NOT LOOK THE SAME BUT THE REMAINS.

Although Lincoln High students and staff celebrated Festivus, the scnool's annual fall celebration, in a new location due to construction this year, the Links proved that they could make a good time out of any situation. Because of the construction in the front of the building, where Festivus has traditionally been held, the festivities were moved to the area just to the west of the South Building. This included the practice field where students could dunk a teacher, climb a rock wall, play Frisbee, or Pie-A-Pomolink.
Students also tried their hands (and feet) at Sumo wrestling, jousting, and Dance Dance Revolution. Various clubs also had tables set up next to the building where they sold food, played games, and did henna tattoos. DECA provided Slushies and cookies, Middle Easter Club provided Falafel, and American Indian Caucus had a rotting cart of fry bread, which they brought directly to their customers.
Associate Principal Jessie Carlson, who helped coordinate the event, had nothing but praise for staff and students, saying that she also appreciated the dedication of club sponsors. In an email to sponsors, she said, "I am very lucky to work in a place where the staff, especially all of you, give so much of yourselves to the students and this building.#
Richard Jackson, who was on the Festivus committee said, "I enjoyed the new location because even the students who didn't wont to be there were having fun, playing Frisbee or soccer and even just hanging out with friends.
The extra area allowed for students to roam around."
Carlson also said, "I liked the location because it was more central, and the gated area aHowed students to roam and we did not need a stdff perimeter. The fact that we hod 1600 students, loud music and no problems occurred made thi year amazing."
Despite the uncertainty of a number of details leading up to the celebration, the event went off without a hitch. The weather was sunny and worm, there was enough f a voriefy of activities to entertain virtually everyone, ·and once again Lincoln High udents showed ~ryone whot lt means to be a Link.

As we all kno~, over the last three years, the face of Lincoln High has changed dramatically due to the construction. One of the biggest changes this year would be the Media Center. "Everyone really misses the balconie , that's kind of the bad thing. It was a place where teachers and kids could go and stay where it was ju t kind of quiet. Now everybody can get to everything because with the balconies, if omeone wa injured on crutches or something like that, we couldn't get them to the balcony for a class, we had to be careful about where we put classes." These are Pam Gannon's words when a ked about the good and bad things related to new Media Center. The Media Center is used for many different things throughout the day.
" It's been used so heavily, we've had teachers come in and kids come in, and seen a lot of studying and checking out books and really doing thing for class and getting ready for classes and te ts." says Gannon. "As you know , it's been a long process to get the Media Center to where it is now," Gannon laughs and says. "It's been LONG. It wa a three year proces because we've had to go up to 302 and different quadrants of this area. So it 's been a really long haul for everybody," he added.
Audio Vi s ual Technician Larry Dawson also states " It was a lot smoother than what I imagined it would be Probably the toughest thing was coming back at the beginning of the chool year and not having acct?ss to the Media Center. I could have cried." As we all know , there is a new flat screen TV in the Media Center but did you know that it was donated by whom we all know a Mr. Z. Social Studie teacher Bill Zuspan won the Wal-Matt teacher of the year award and he u ed part of the money to purchase the TV and a DVD player. " The kids are really starting to come and watch and use the TV," Gannon said.
Also , have you noticed the beautiful decorations spread throughout the Media Center, on bookshelves, tables, and everywhere in between? If so, you may want to know that Media Specialist Paula McClung purcha~ed them. So, students and staff at Lincoln High, you are very lucky to have such a nice

LINKS EXCITED BY NEW TED SORENSEN THEATRE
If you never sat in the old auditorium seats - especially the ones in the balcony that were the original seats from 1913 - you can ' t fully appreciate how wonderful the new theatre is. Although there have been minor changes over the years (some new seats were added in the '50s , and some speakers were hung under the balcony to try to improve acoustics) the actual structure itself remained pretty much untouched until this year.
As part of the building -wide renovation , the old auditorium got a complete face -lift while still preserving much of the original, beautiful architecture and is now named the Ted Sorensen Theatre. Sorensen , an LHS alum from 1945, went on to be an adviser and speech writer for President John F. Kennedy. He spoke to students and staff last year, and will return later this year for the theatre ' s dedication ceremony in May.
English Department Chair and Theatre Director Patsy Koch Johns was thrilled with the changes. "They did a wonderful job of maintaining the integrity of the past and the present without allowing it become just a plain old box," she said. 'Tm sure just exactly like the original designers and architects wanted it to be. "
Instructional Coordinator and Musical Director John Heineman said , "The old theatre was great. We kept a lot of the old charm and yet really modernized it. What we can do now that we couldn ' t do before with the sound system and light system is phenomenal. We have more space on the stage and the tech room is amazing. "
Music Director Dan Ehly added, "Well , the old [theatre] was built in the style • of the 1920s theatres. It wasn ' t really designed for anything more than the vaudeville stage It was inadequate for what we needed. It hadn ' t been updated for so long that I believe you can see the stain from Joynite in the earlyt970s where they threw a pie at the principal. Down the line , as we get to learning how to use the electronics they built into it, ifs going to be a pretty amazing place. I think they really made it a state of the art facility. It does allow us some more options. "
Koch Johns added , "It's amazing to have state of the art facilities for students to work in and that it's finally equitable with all of the other theatres in the city.
After 20 to 30 years of missing things like a fly system , lighting and sound, it's wonderful just having the equipment so tha t students who study theatre at LHS can actually study in the same way that other students are studyin across the city."

After all the numerous traffic jams in the hallways, staircases blocked and temporary classrooms moving around from floor to floor and who could forget the loud annoying noises everyone could hear throughout the building even if the doors to classrooms were closed. About five years ago, planning for construction started and three of those five years were actually spent working on construction. It is finally coming to ~n end. Associate Principal Brent Toal on said the reason for some of the delays was because , "When you get into a building thi , old so~etimes you find things after you tear down walls so you have to go back and do extra work, so the delays really related to making ure we got the project done right." "Except for some delays, most of the P,rojects ran smoothly. Many students and staff wondered when the construction would actually be completed, Toalson said "We are nearing the end in the next month [March 2010] or so we will be done with most of the projects. After that there will just be ome mop up projects like painting and putting trim on windows that will be finished up around Spring Break 2010." Many uppercla smen also were worried that since we have a new and improved cafeteria it would mean dosed campus for juniors and seniors, Toalson said "That deci ion will be made by the school board, so it is not a school decision. In the end, the school came together well, and things got back to normal. Some big change were made, but tpe school retained its classic look and feel.

Lincoln High's Homecoming theme this year, Cirque Du SoLINKS, might be better remembered as Cirque Du S0L1ghtsdue to some issues with students dancing dirty in the darkness Because students couldn ' t keep it clean, the lights were turned on by administrators and chaperones "We felt like , in terms of dancing, certain codes of conduct weren't being followed," explained Associate Principal Jessie Carlson One student described the dance floor as having concentric circles of progressively naughtier and naughtier dancing. The center being reserved for the worst.
At the beginning of the dance, a few lights were on , and students asked if they could be turned off The DJ relayed an announcement from sponsors that as long as students kept the dancing "clean and appropriate " the lights could be turned off It didn't take long, however, for students to ignore the warning. One more announcement was made, and sponsors asked several groups to cool off, but in the end administrators felt they had to hit the switch permanently "We reminded several groups to keep it clean, but as soon as we turned around, they went right back to it," Carlson said.
Although students complained, it didn't stop them from having a good time Even with the lights on, the dance floor was never empty, and overall the nigh( was "pretty smooth ," Carlson added
This year, Homecoming Royalty were announ ced and crowned at the dance , rather than during the game as they have in recent years. Reactions to this change were mixed Some preferred the coronation during the game, because parents and family were able to share in the crowning Others liked the fact that it was just the students who got to see the festivities at the dance. Overall it was a perfect example that you can't please everyone, but judging from student comments, you could please quite a few

There are so many classes to choose from in high school. What if there was a program which chose the classes for you? International Baccalaureate , in its second year at LHS, is that program with room for each candidate's interests. "You get a rigorous but thorough curriculum to learn, with a considerable amount of both breadth and depth;' said senior Jon Lambert. Because the IB Diploma program is a two year commitment from the summer before junior year to senior year, this is the first year seniors graduated from the program. IB has been described as "like AP on steroids". Although the quest for "IB jokes" has been fruitful, none are appropriate for a school publication. However, there are many facebook groups dedicated to making light of the challenges of IB. " The challenges would be most apparent in the sheer amount of work you must do, with the Extended Essay, multiple other ex ternally and internally assessed activities, the CAS requirements, and the foreboding IB exams; ' Lambert continued.
Of course, the program was not without its shortcomings. The self-proclaimed "guinea pig group" (IB seniors of 2010) wished they could have been part of the program in the f~ture because everyone involved was still figuring out how things should work. "At the same time we [were] able to help create the program, and many of the insights from the teachers [were] new even to them which [led] to some more genuine conversations ;' commented senior Sam Bontrager.
One of the biggest struggles for the senior class was the Extended Essay, a 4,000 word required research paper needed for candidates to graduate with the IB Diploma. Even with all the delays (two extra extended deadlines), all twelve diploma candidates turned in their Extended Essays on March 1, 2010. "It felt great to finally be finished!" said senior Emme Grafton who wrote a literary Extended Essay on The Poisonwood Bible. Chris Maly, Extended Essay coordinator, commented that students are expected to construct drafts du~ing the summer vacation "I think both students and staff of the IB Program learned a great deal and the students should 1be commended for being the first to venture down the unbeaten path. They certainly had a compelling and diverse academic expe r ience that I think will serve them well in higher education;' Maly continued.

The Art Department returned to its home in Middle Hallway after construction was completed during the summer before th e 2009 -2010 school year. "We ' ve had one room taken away from us, a new room given to us, the pottery room has be en redesigned, kind of reformatted and we 've gotten new storage galleys in between the three rooms W e'v e got more storage that we've had to organize and figure out what we ' re going to be doing with now " said Art Department Chair, Shawn Stokes
Construction wasn 't the only thing preventing the Art Dep artment's abilities to move through the year normally. The Winter Art Show, which was scheduled for January 6th through the 8th, was canc e lled this year due to the unprecedented number of snow days Lincoln Public Schools experienced "We won ' t be doing it in the Media Center like we have been doing the last ten or so years It's going to be more so in th e cafeteria in those new display cases, so that's going to be something different." commented Stokes before the event. Stokes encourages all her students to put their best piece in the show . "That ' s part of being an artist , [putting] your work out there for public viewing, kind of that social pressure to show something that you ' re proud of in there," continued Stokes
Another type of art show was hosted in Room 300 during the first few weeks of April. The second year IB Visual Art candidates experienced their external examination on their individual shows Each student had to speak to an external examiner for 20 minutes about their artwork and the journey they have taken over the past two years " He [the examiner] was so easy to talk to .just generally conversational, " said senior Shyamaly Premaraj. Although students were examined in April, they won ' t get their scores back un.til July of this year

The sound of fingertips hitting keyboards fills the Lincoln High Newsroom. Students on the Advocate staff are searching for news, photos, current events- anything to write a story about. They work hard for us- the Lincoln High student body. For fun? Probably not. For a grade? Maybe. But more importantly, to keep us informed about what's going on in-our very own school, our local community, and this chaotic world.
"The Advocate is a student newspaper," ays Chris Maly, the Advocate adviser. "It i a voice for Lincoln High students. It teaches them writing, thinking, and provides a medium for students to express their opinions."
Students on staff cover stories about major world events, chool policies and activities, and student achievements. Students are able to cover stories that meet their interests and experience event outside the building. Maly has been involved with the school newspaper for three years now.
This year the class has taken on an online dimension that is more dynamic in reporting news stories and keeping reader, informed. The Advocate Online is hosted at lhs://wpstu.lps.org/advocate. Here breaking news or stories that happen in between print i sues can be accessed up to the minute.
The class also Prepares student journalists for possible careers in the field, Maly says. Today's journalist isn't just a story writer. They need to be a photographer, layout and design artist, and they need they need to have technology skills.
As for the question of the future of journalism, with the advent of the internet and immediate online reporting, Maly has this to ay. "Journalism is not dead; it is evolving."

You hear the clinking of dumbbells, the splash of the pool, or the shrill sound of a whistle. Where are you? You are in one of the many Health and P.E. classes offered here at Lincoln High. The Health and P.E. program offers a wide variety of classes to take, whether you love to dance, or just like to stay active any way possible, we have the class for you. Some of the options would be a variety of weight training classes (Weight Training, Personal Weight Training, Advanced Weight Training), swimming classes (Beginning Swimming, Advanced Swimming, Lifeguard Training); and then there are the classes that just keep you active in many different ways (Dance 101, Fitness , for Life, Team Sports, Lifetime Sports).
Students at Lincoln High are aH required to take 7.5 credits of P.E. classes to graduate, some take more as an elective. LHS alum and P.E. teacher Amy Carrioto said, "It's a great way to get some energy out after sitting at a desk all day. There are lots options for P.E. classes, and we would love to get as many people excited about physical activity as possible!" She also tells that her favorite class to teach is Lifetime Sports "The activities we do are the types of activities the students can do for life The one's we have done so far this year are Ultimate Frisbee, Disc Golf, Tennis, Badminton, Pickleball, Ping Pong, Archery, Fly Fishing, Eclipse Ball, and Volleyball. In the future we plan on including Golf and hopefully kayaking."
P.E. teacher Andy Genrich teaches his students a variety of skills. His main focus? "To set goals and try to achieve them by the end of the semester." Alright students, it's up to you now. The teachers here are ready to help you get in shape and stay in shape, so take advantage of the great opportunities!

New classrooms, a new job site, new projects, etc. our Industrial Technologies teachers work hard to teach students new things as well as how to use the new skills they develop.
Mike Fultz , Stan Haas, Rus Hitz , and Gary Hinkley are the teachers in this department. They teach a variety of classes. "This was my first year teaching Advanced Auto Tech," Fultz said "/ taught Auto Tech last year as well as this year, but this was a new class for me " Fultz brought his experience to the class, but working together with his students also provided everyone with opportunites to share knowledg e "/ also learned from my students," Fultz said
Something new this year for Haas was "Not being in our classrooms, having to be in the library," he said Being in temporary classrooms while their original classrooms were being remodeled made things particularly difficult for classes that use equipment that they didn ' t have access to. Hinkley was placed in a temporary office for the first part first semester this year due to the remodeling of the new Graphics Communications class and Machinery Tool lab
Residential Construction, taught this year by Russ Hitz, is always big at LHS. Students left to work on the job site during 6th and 7th periods. The job site this year was at 339 N 24th Street Students basically start from scratch, and in the end , had a finished house!
This year in the CAD (Computer Assisted Drawing) Tech classes, students worked on Project Lead the Way. Students take a national exam {optional) at the end of the year to earn 3 hours of college credit in Engineering
There are many contests in which LHS students do an excellent job in various departments. Industrial Technologies classes are no exception. In Skills USA, two students have to figure out the problems in a broken car and fix them in a limited time This happens at the end of second semester. LHS finished 18th place last year in the nation!
Despite the changes and difficulties throughout the year, the students and staff pulled together and made the best of it. The good news is that next year they will be starting out with brand new facilities.
The Lincoln High Instrumental Music Department is one of the many outstanding traditions at this school. This year, the band has a newly renovated room, new students and new staff. This year, Dan Ehly has become the Director of Instrumental Music. Ehly replaces Terry Rush, who left to teach at Southwest High School. Taking over the assistant directing position is Chris Watson. Brett Noser rounds out the teaching trio, as the District Orchestra String Consultant. Second semester also brought the addition of Lindsey Engalls, who is a student teacher from UNL.This year, there are 226 students in grades 9-12 involved in instrumental music. For the first quarter, all band members, 9-12, are in Marching Band. During the second quarter, the same students make a Senior Concert band. Then, second semester, marching band splits into 3 groups; freshman, concert and symphonic band. You have to try out to be in symphonic band. There is also an orchestra, that meets during 3rd period everyday, and they don't change at the semester. Musicians join for a variety of reasons, but the ones that stay all have the same reason, the love of music. Mr. Ehly says "If you work hard for a long period of time, you can do things that you never thought you could do. I like seeing improvement."
The 2009-10 school year has seen many new changes to the appearance and functionality of Lincoln High. Just like the rest of the school, the band room has undergone a major makeover. Last school year (2008-09), for the 4th quarter, the band practiced in the West Gym, and they were there until the 1st quarter of this year, when construction was finally completed. The official moving day was on November 16th 2009, but the long process started much earlier. After the move, it was a big relief to everyone, to finally be out of the West Gym, and back where they belonged.
Some new additions to the room, were a large ensemble practice room where you can rehearse with a group, and 4 new individual practice rooms. The office now has 4 built-in desks in it, and the old office is now the music library. The walls have been built with double insulation to support the powerful sounds produced within, without disrupting everyone else outside. Another fun feature is that the 2 music rooms- the band and choir rooms- are now connected with a door.
When everyone got to see the new room, like everything, there were mixed reactions. For the most part students said they liked the changes they saw, but there were some parts they wern't so happy about. Students liked that it was much bigger and they got new lockers, but they didn't like that they were not allowed to eat in there anymore. More than one student commented on how much brighter the room was, and noted the lack of carpeting among other things.
One thing that everyone agreed on though, was that they were glad they didn't have to move again anytime soon.
Other interesting things that the music department supports are a 4th period jazz band, an early morning jazz band, electronic music theory, winter drumline and introductory and advanced guitar classes. There are 2 periods for Jazz Band, because some kids couldn't be in it during the school day, and some were unable to (or didn't want to) come in at 7 am 3 days a week Electronic Music theory uses music and electronics to further understand both of them and how they work together. Winter drumline was designed to help keep the drumlin°e members practicing and perfecting their skills, but was opened to all instrumental students that were interested in joining. The 2 guitar classes are taught by Gary Hinkley, who is also one of the industrial tech teachers. There were 2 levels of the guitar classes, one for people just starting and one for those who wanted to improve their playing abilities. •

When construction first began, the Social Studies teachers were the first department to volunteer to have their rooms renovated. The process has been a long one, spanning almost three years, but there is now only one room in the department shared by two teachers.

After she was nominated, Grant Colson had to write three essays on what being a teacher means to her.
"It really made me think about the things I do in the classroom, who I am as an educator, and what my philosophies are."

Also , we look at modern genocides ; do we have any connections back and forth , are we getting ah ead as a society, are we repeating the same patterns? " Students taking the class are expected to part i cipate in clas s di scus sions about the topics covered in the class.

The Speech team underwent a transformation thi s season, but most would say it is not necessarily for the better. By the end of the season, only three members: Greg Ward (11) , Emily Madcharo (11), and James Steele (10) remained. This is not to say that the team had no success. Quite the contrary. This season the remaining members of the team all made it to the state tournament , a feat not easily accomplished. Having small numbers can be tough, but the team has obviously found a way to rise above.
Late in the season, the team got another blow. Head Coach Laura Aten announced that this was her last year coaching. "I'm really sad, becau e it's been a lot of fun, but it's time to move on," explained Aten. Assistant Coach Ruth Clark feels like being head coach would be too much for her to take on, so the team faces the next season with no returning coaches.
The team members banded together to make Coach Aten' s last season one to remember. Upon hearing the announcement , team practices happened much more·often ~and the team began to go to every tournament. "We got better at the end of the year because we knew Mrs. Aten wasn't going to be there next year and we wanted to
show her what Lincoln High Speech Team is all about," explained Steele.
This year, the debate team saw four students go to state. The team has grown in the past couple of years and has had consistent success in the past couple of years. This year, the team saw an influx of Novice competitors. "Two people going to state were novi [first year competitors], so they did really well," explained Junior Arron Johnson, who is in his third year on the team. State Debate is not something these students take for granted. The team members invest a huge amount of time and hard work. "The Speech and the Debate season is one of the longe st seasons [of any activity]. It goes from October to March." explains Coach Brian Goodbrake. The debate team members come in multiple days each week, every week. They go to tournaments to compete almost every weekend. This is a time commitment the students are more then willing to take on. When asked why they would be so willing, Johnson excitedly explained, " I get to learn about philosophers, public policy, and world governmental action and international relations." Not everyone would get so excited about this, but for those that are, they find their place with the successful debate team.

ose students who have had Deborah McGinn as a teacher have heard more then enough about Scribe. Each year about 30 students can sa y they've been published. But only a select few can say they ' ve helped created the award-winning literary magazine. These select few devote every Friday afternoon and everal weekends a year to putting together the best of student writing. "The editors are people who choose to be there. Deborah McGinn.
What does it take to get published in Scribe?
The Editor-In-Chief, Junior Eric Holt , explains, " I judge on content not on grammatical quality. " Adds Junior Dylan Roberson , " Content is important but overall I think readability is more important because some one is going to relate to the content even ifl don ' t personally like it. "
Above all, the entire Scribe staff encourages students to submit or, better yet, apply to be an editor. And, if you need ome extra inQentive, Roberson adds , "Miss McGinn ' s cool. "

Imagine having to perform and practice at a middle school, gym , cafeteria , and finally, your own stage. Talk about being flexible. It seems to be the theme of Lincoln High Theatre this year. You have to be adaptable if you ' re trying to adjust to not only a new group of students but a1$0 to the constant changing of pract ice space.
Senior Richard Eisloeffel pointed out that being it's all a part of acting and learning new roles. "In acting, you have to be able to act in different roles, different parts, different languages, and different styles. Having the flexibility to learn different aspects and parts of theatre helps you gather as much information and work your skills as well as you can."
As many know, the Auditorium has been under construction all year and finally opened for the musical in March. But it sure hasn't stopped the actors and actresses from having fun! Eisloeffel's favorite role? "Athos from The 3 Musketeers - it wa s an over the top comedic part, and got to learn stage fighting with rapier swords ."
junior Katy Keating has anticipated the new Lincoln High Theatre along with many other students, performers or not. " Our new equipment has been exciting, " Keating commented "The challenges had been that we didn ' t have a theatre, we practiced at Irving Middle School and then for One Act practiced in the cafeteria. " However that hasn't stopped Keating from having fun with her roles. " All of my roles have been challenging. My favorite was definitely Meg Trueblood; I kind of got to be disgusting, and it was wonderful. It was hard to keep that nasty character for the entire time Playing Sandy was also challenging. I grew up with the movie so it was a change of character. And for Anastasia playing an eighty year -old and being sixteen or seventeen made it hard to get the walk right," Keating ~aid.
junior Scott Shomaker observes that with the theatre under construction it has been a challenging condition for each show "The main challenge of th is year has been the lack of a theatre," Shomaker said. As for his favorite role , " I loved all of them," Shomaker said. "I loved being the drunken judge and Longjohn Silver , those two were special. In the musical, I'm Kenickie. Let's face it , this year has been really good to me I don't have a favorite role, I would return to any of them."
Theatre Director Patsy Koch johns commented that it has been really hard without a theatre. "We've been in cafeterias, gymnasiums, and hallways to rehearse ." Koch-johns said. "It was really tough during One Act, students had to rehearse without sound or lights, it was also hard for a director to stand back and watch the show. It was easier to rehearse at the middle school and that was easier than a cafeteria."
Despite not having a theatre, the Lincoln High School One Act earned third place during Districts. "Lincoln High kids can make theatre anywhere; they can drag a set across town, make a pirate ship sail through the gymnasiums. The students are survivors, they l make things happen even with adversity."
This year has been a challenging but exciting one for Lincoln High Theatre, and while the loss of the theatre for most of the year put a damper on productions, the spirit and talent shone through these talented, young individuals. With a-new stage , just think of what is to come in the future.

Whenever the score is low, they're the ones that keep our spirit up. The Lincoln High cheerleaders were at nearly all games to cheer the Links on to victory. The Links cheerleaders performed at football games, volleyball games, boys and girls basketball games, and wrestling matches. They also performed at Camp Okoboji where they swept camp and took home nearly all of the awards including the Spirit Award which is the highest honor that is voted on by the entire camp, along with the Shrine Parade, Star City Parade, Fall Link Up, Winter Link Up, spirit rallies, and the Lincoln Northeast Starstrutters Show. Coach Erika Kirkland says the Freshman squad, consisting of four cheerleaders "were small but mighty". She also says "The JV squad had many strengths, but I was most impressed with their determination to advance their skills. The Varsity squad was stacked with amazing performers. Watching this squad perform always felt like such a treat!" Kirkland comments that the Lincoln Northeast Starstrutters Show was her favorite performance and "I think that we blew people away with our timing, precision, and sharpness when we cheered and danced. It was the proudest moment of my coaching career." Coach Emily Martin also comments on the Northeast Starstrutters Show saying, "All of the performances were flawless this year, but this perfor•mance in particular stood out. The dance and cheer that were choreographed by the cheerleaders and performed at the Starstrutters Show was fantastic. That was definitely my proudest moment this year."

I found out about Arts and Humanities through friends who went there before I did. If I didn't know anyone who went there before I applied , I would have had no idea that it even existed We learn more about topics that I am interested in and want to focus on, because that's what it is- - a focus program. We do interesting things like have musicians come, go on field trips to art galleries, and do things that keep us involved in the community as a school. In May, we are having a First Friday benefit fashion show and all of the proceeds are going towards helping the problem of sex trafficking We're also talking about getting involved with the food drive to help with the hunger problem in Lincoln

AboutMe:
The summer before Freshman year, I traveled to Vietnam. My dad had a stroke when I was eight, and a second one a little while later, so my mom wanted to try acupuncture and make his " damaged " side stronger I saw my entire parent's family, as well as the beach sand hills in Mui Ne, street vendors , and a lot of people begging for money One night when staying in Saigon, my family and I were in line to get dessert from a street vendor A little girl, about 10 years old, was running around with her little brother, weaving through the line, with a bucket in her hand begging for money She and her brother had tattered clothing and straggly hair One of the street vendor women , annoyed and mad, told the kids to go away, since they were "disturbing her customers:' She then walked to the father of the kids, who was sitting on a mat on the ground , leaned down and asked him "Don't you know how to raise your kids?" In Vietnam, it is disgraceful to be told you are a bad parent, since it shows that you are incompetent. The man called the oldest girl over, and started slapping her, right there At that time, my mom had already bought the dessert, and we were walking the opposite direction I turned my head, and saw the little girl's head, bowed down, as she was expecting a second blow. I was amazed at what was happening before my eyes A father was slapping her daughter, because she was trying to get some money for food This really impacted me, since even though I knew poverty existed in Vietnam, I wasn't really exposed to it when I was there (to the extent that I saw), so seeing this scene really brought this to heart There is something we all can do to help prevent something like this from happening All we have to do is take that initial step and ASK. Look around for those that need your help, because most likely, unbeknownst to you, there is someone there, waiting just for you.

Al:nut:Me: I grew up in Sudan, Africa. My dad was killed whe n I was 5 because of the ongoing conflict there. I came here on December 3, 2005 because do~n there it was so dangerous. People get killed everyday and my mother decide to let me leave the country so I could be safe and go to school in another country. The life here is way better than the life back there Whe e I came from, every week you see a dead ~ody somewhere or you heard the gun shot, gun shots was like drums There was no single week that you could go through without hearing guns unless you're dead or leave the place I now work part - time at the UNL cafeteria, and I send money back to my fam ily ever :.: month. I'm not just supporting me, but my entire family too. After graduation I am going to go back to Sudan and visit my mom. When I come back I will attend SCC for two years and then transfer to UNL, where I will become a teacher or a business owner. Where I live after that depends on what job I get , but I always want to travel back and spend time in Sudan.

I was born in Boch um , Germany. In 4th grade my family and I moved to Fargo, North Dakota, but went back to Germany after half a year I attended Gymnasium there until 8th grade That summer I moved here to Lincoln, because my dad got a job at UNL. School in Germany was definit ely more difficult than it is here, but if I had stayed there I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet all the people I now know. My • English has also improved a lot since I came here.

AboutM
My first play was when I was in the third grade, but I never did theatre regularly until I was in the sixth grade. Since then, I'm almost always in or involved with a play. I really enjoy theatre because it's a great way to get creative, have a good time and I've met some of the coolest people through theatre. Theatre is a really big part of my life. Whenever I'm not in a show I get bored a lot because I'm not used to having so much free time. I heard about The Nebraska Girl's Shakespeare Company when I was at rehearsal for a show at The Haymarket Theatre, which is where I got started in theatre. Most of Shakespeare's shows have guys as the leads, so Girl's Shakespeare gave us chicks a chance in the spotlight.
Nebraska Girl's Shakespeare is a company for girls ages 13-18 that does exclusively classical theatre with a focus on Shakespeare.
Girl's Shakespeare has been such a great experience for me. Not only have I gotten to get familiar with some outstanding classical shows but I also get the chance to play characters that I never would have dreamed of playing.
Girl's Shakespeare is a unique and totally amazing experience-I've grown so much as an actress and met some great people from it.

My sister got me interested in athletic training. She started working with the trainers at school her freshman year, so when I got to Lincoln High I decided to join up with her. As athletic trainers, we have a lot of responsibilities. We fill the jugs of water for the teams, do tape jobs for injuries, run rehab for individuals by helping them with their exercises and stretches, give concussion tests, and many other things. You get to know a lot of new people involved around the school. Also, learning how to prevent injuries and fix them is very interesting and beneficial in case I get h(Jrt. I love the head trainers for our school. Charity and Mr. Welker are both very nice and very educated people; each of them have taught me a lot My least favorite part of training would be having to deal with sweaty, smelly boys. There are a lot of great memories, though, whether funny mishaps with the go - cart during football or when we get to together at our trainer parties. We always have fun It 's hard to see people hurt and upset when they hear they can't participate in a sport, but at times it's necessary The tape jobs can also be a chal lenge, but over the years they become easier and more natural to do. It's totally worth being an athletic trainer. I love helping people and watching sports and this job incorporates both of those. And the people I have met through it have really helped me anci'taught me a lot. Athletic training is fun but a pretty serious job you can do at Lincoln High. Sometimes it can get stressful with being the only person at an out of town game but then it's all worth it when you get to help someone get back to the game. I love the head trainers, Charity and Welker, and the other student trainers. Josh, Sandy, and Brandon. We are like one big family.

Nick Brown played Emmett Till in Chris Maly's production of"This Unsafe Star:The Story of Emmett and Mamie Till" his freshman year. This spring Brown (now a senior) and Maly went to Mississippi to visit the place where Emmett was murdered as part of a documentary film Maly is producing "It w~s a trip that probably was one of the most important pilgrimages I'll ever take part in. There s a sense of unfinished business - like somebody screaming 'What does this mean?' It was really intense We visited a lot of places, but a lot of them are in decay [including the site of the house that's believed to be where Emmett was actually murdered.] Seeing some of those places just hits you on a different level. When something is face to face with you, it's a lot different than seeing a picture You're in the middle of these moments and you're getting the air sucked out of you. We also went to the [Tallahatchie County] courthouse where the trial would later take place. It was a very eerie experience. You go there and you're familiar with all of the footage and the photos and you can feel the heat just looking at it, people leaning out of windows Now it's just dead quiet with decayed buildings surrounding it. There was literally nobody there. Sort of a ghost town When you confront stuff like that, there's a requisite period of reassessment that comes along with it. I can't tell you how long It lasts, but it 's important that it happens It's a learning process. Becoming familiar with Emmett as I did humanizes him in a way that he deserves, as do all people who are victims of crimes like this. Having that experience [playing Emmett onstagel, I was 14 at the time just as he was There's a sort of anger, a sadness, imagining all of what he felt, and you can't imagine it. It goes beyond words to more of a spiritual thing. There were certain times where you feel as though there's an attack being made toward you There have been repeated Emmett Till cases that have happened throughout history, and it is still happening to some p ople. There's so much that isn't told, or if it was told was told completely incorrectly There's definitely a responsibility. Once you know the truth - and this is one of the points of the documentary - you have a responsibility, not to rewrite history, but to reveal what it w s the whole time. To preserve history so we don't have to repeat it. Never underestimate the pow r of som thing like that. The truth has brought us to where we are :•

It was another successful year for bowling! The biggest accomplishment was qualifying for state, once again. Team qualifiers were: the Boy's Varsity, Boys J.V, and Girls J.V team. Individual qualifiers were: Sophomore Cayliss Mothershed who qualified for 2nd • place, and Junior Rachel Eubanks for 8th place. At the State competition Rachel Eubanks placed 11th. Cayliss Mothershed's goal for state was to reach the top ten, but despite her efforts she didn't quite reach her goal. State competition for Boys and Girls J.V teams this year was at "The Big Apple" located in Kearney Nebraska. The Boys Varsity team placed 3rd at State while the Boys J.V team placed 11th. "We got a lot of gutters, a lot of splits, that's what messed us up;' said Freshman Matt Scribner. Unfortunately for the Girl's J.V team they did not place during state.
The mastermind behind this years bowling team was definitely their coaches, unfortunately two of the coaches are retiring this year. Coach Meyer and Coach Amory are stepping down from the action and leaving the team in the hands of Scott and Amanda Boltz. "I did it for 12 1/2 years, I didn't realize it was that long but it's time for something new. I'm still going to be involved with the team, if they need he.Ip during practices ... I'm just stepping down;' said Coach Amory. Along with Amory was Coach Meyer, "Patty coached for 11 1/2 years until she came to help me coach the Boys Varsity;' said Amory. With the former coaches leaving and new coaches taking their places comes a lot of sadness but yet many new opportunities. "I'm kind of sad about it. They coach .the Boys Varsity and J.V., but they also talk to the girls;' said Sophomore Haylie Harding. With new coaches Lincoln High's Bowling Team can only get stronger and better. Scott Boltz is a graduate of Lincoln High and bowled for Lincoln High from 1997 to 1999 when he graduated. Amanda Boltz is a graduate from UNL who was part of a bowling team that won Nationals twice in the early 2000's. "I know they're in good hands;' said Coach Amory.

How would you describe the Lincoln High Junior Varsity, Reserve and Freshman Football teams? Phenomenal! The Links this year have done an outstanding Job at honoring the Links name. Each team had an outstanding victory over several schools with only one loss on each team. From pouring rain to icy cold weather, nothing could stop these teams this season.
The Freshman Football Tearn is a new batch of future Links. Some would say the highlight of this year for the football team would be a certain game, however for Coach Dave Medina the highlight was seeing the team progress through the season
"From game one to last night, we have improved all phases of the game." As for the toughest games, "All of our games are our toughest games. You've got to respect your opponent but not fear your opponent.
Every time we prepare for each week or each game, l tell them that's out toughest opponents. You focus on one game, you don't focus on the next game.n Medina plans on improving the team by having them try out for more than sport.
"The more you compete, the better an athlete you can be. Don't be a one sport athlete, be a two or three sport athlete.
The Reserve team also proved to be one tough team .,,They're a great bunch of kids," Coach Jarrell Green said . .,,They work really hard." One game that sticks out for him was the game against Southwest. HWe haven't beaten Southwest in awhile, but we came -in from behind twice and won by three points. The first and last games were our toughest. During the Southeast game it was poring_ down rain the entire game and we lost our quarterback," Green said .,,The kids were fighting to win."
His plans for next year? To get everyone into the weight room and start winning some more games.
The Junior Varsity season was the making of a movie .,,One of our highlights was the game against Northeast when we were behind 25 to nothing going into the fourth quarter," Coach Richard Jackson explained. Hwe won the ball game 26 to 25." The toughest game was their game against East, and it was their only loss this year.
Coach Jackson coached a player who played professionally for the New York Giants, Barry Cofield. Jackson plans to put some of that experience into next year's team. HWe are going to be an excellent team. Next year l plan on the defense side to be stronger."
All in all this was an amazing event for the teams as all of them nearly went undefeated and have all proven they have the skills to beat the other schools into submission.
With this much expectation of such caliber performance many would think they wouldn't be able to live up to it. Apparently they haven ' t seen them play.

ments over the years. Oii;iicill, y bring spirit and passion to the course. Never without a smHe on their faces, the LHS girls' golf team goes out to a tournament and gives their all. As Coach Sharpe put it, this year's players have a "willingness to take the risk of competing and then learning from it. " like most sports, achievement in golf is Nrelative to the experience you have, and the knowledge and skills you develop N The girl's golf team has definitely risen to the occasion Of the eight girls involved in golf this season, two are new to the team. Sophomores Emma Schultz and Claire Karsting joined golf this year for the first time, and have only helped the group. Coach Sharpe describes them as committed, encouraging, and full of a desire to learn. This year, Coach Sharpe put the most emphasis on individual improvement, in order to benefit the team as a whole. "Eight girls started the season, and eight girls finished," says Coach Sharpe. All of them have "taken ownership to areas of weakness," and faced their biggest competition--themselves Sophomore Ariel Blackman has expressed these qualities, and consequently been one of the strongest contributors to the girls ' golf team this year. Blackman placed second at the Northeast Invitational on September 17 after shooting an 84. After that, she went on to finish 4th at the LPS Championship on September 22. The team as a whole tied with Northeast for fifth place In Blackman's words: "We had an amazing season with a lot of young golfers . we really improved our game."
1s year improved 300% of what they did last year. They won es last year winning six games this year. When asked if the team imoughout the season coach Jeff Pierce said "no doubt" he also said that st thing is to keep improving. Senior Katie Martin said "We made a lot s as a team." During this season they switched the line-up .to improve With only two seniors on the team this year , it was "a very young •erce put it. The team was trying to "get respect and get that bounce s a step in the right direction.
most of the team in and out for illness, it was a very hard year. verybody was healthy and wish you had everyone here for the whole e said ; The team this year was very understanding of the roles that •or Cat Harvey was said as one of the top leaders on the team. "I al person" Harvey said.
ow that it would take time to gel [getting along and finding team t of the teams we played were really high caliber, [they] had a
o c u girl that played 60, 70, 80, 90 games, and a lot of our girls had not." Pierce aid. M rtin adds, "A lot of our girls didn't have a lot of high level of playing." Ac uple of the girls played baseball and others played softball on a ummer lea e before the season started, which really helped their play this year. Harvey play d beseball this summer and said, "My batting improved, its over half what it as last year."
Th season end was one of the best years that the girls have had in a long time. The layers and coaches are looking forward to many more good seasons ahead.

Every team has their own mottos, but here at Lincoln High, our Varsity Volleyball team ' s is " Commitment to Excellence ."
The Varsity Volleyball team had a record of 5-29 this season, along with a big goal to run a faster offense and improve their fundamentals. Coach Lynette Rychecky said, " There were times we had some breakdowns, but "we are slowly making progress. We are trying to get back to the level of Volleyball LHS once played, but it takes commitment, and it does show even though our record may not reflect it."
The volleyball team was very committed this season. They practiced everyday after school for two hours doing conditioning, fundamentals, and lots of serving and passing. "We served every single day , because serving is a huge part of the game. When asked about the team and outstanding players Rychecky replied , "I had a great group of players, but the seniors were a big part of the improvements we made ."
"Chelsea Allen (libero), did an awesome job the past 2 seasons. She broke/set two records this year, most digs in a match , and the most d i gs in a season. Taneesha Chase (outside) was second on the team with most digs and was one of our best passers. Joanna Harris was one of our team captains and worked very had and enjoyed the game. If you've seen her play, you know what I mean. Jillian Jensen did a great job as middle. Ailondra Ballard played right side and was able to hit from all three front row positions as well as some setting," Rychecky said.
The team traveled to many places other than Lincoln, including Omaha Northwest, Omaha Central, Omaha Skutt, Millard South, and Papillion South.
So how does Rych .ecky feel about the season? "I'm not happy that it's over, but I am happy with the progress we made And a big part of that is due to the seniors They are a g r eat group and w i ll be missed. But they set some high st andards for varsity and hopefully we can build on this "

"The stren1th of this team from my perspective is the overall enthusiasm and positive attitude of the team, and that is a reflection of the fact .that the people on the team are basically very 100d human beings," said Coach John Clark about his 2009-2010 JV 1irls basketball team. The team started out with six Juniors, five sophomores and two freshman. Throus, hout the season the team worked hard , played tou1h and stuck tos, ether. Coach Clark says the thins, that makes his team special is th people, "Who they are. I don't want to mention anyone specl ically, but I could say very positive thins,s about everyone on the team. I think they are some ~ ~ ;;; ' extremely cool, interestin1, and wonderful bein1s."
When the JV team played Uncoln Northeast on January 22, 2010 at LNI they scored the first two points of the 1ame and held the Rockets scoreless in the first five minutes. Althous,h the Links were down at halftime they went into the locker room ready to re1roup The Unks came out and ti1htened the score to a 13 point difference, 20 to 33 which was a hus,e accomplishment for the team. In the locker room after the s,ame the 1irls were ecstatic and full of cheer.
"We find that we are not as skilled as most of our opponent~, and that is really discoura1in1, because it really affects how we perform. When you find it difficult Just to pass the ball to a teammate or dribble the ball up court, because you are beins, pressured by your opponent, it makes it difficult to have the feelin1 of success, and when you feel a lot of frustration about what you are try· ins, to accomplish that can be a verj bis, obstacle, 11 said Clark.
Ourin1 the s,ame a1ainst Uncoln North Star on January 28, 2010 the Unks felt exactly what Coach Clark was talklns, about. We only scored 2 points in the first half but in the second half they had 1irls step up the pace and s,et the ball fallins, in the hoop. The Links out-scored the Gators in the second half with 2 7 points. "This is why I came out for basketball, that half was a scorin1 explosion, 11 sophomore Jolin N1yuen said

goes up for a sports and you can become lay up during the Freshman LHS vs LSE game champions. II -Coach Green on December 19, 2009 in Johnson Gym.
After three long and hard days of tryouts they went home and waited for the phone to ring. As their palms became sweaty, their stomachs filled with butterflies they did not realize they had already made the Freshman Girls Basketball team.
The Freshman ladies had their first game against Lincoln Northeast on December 16, 2009. The Links played with heart, ran hard, jumped high and fought until the buzzer. Although the end result was not exactly what the girls had hoped for, it made them work harder each day at practice to come out on top.
Coach Jerrel Green puts his heart and soul into his team and wants them to succeed, "I don't want a win so that it can say l -whatever on my record. I want you guys to win so that you can feel what it feels like to win." That is exactly what the girls did.
The Links had a few victories but the sweetest was the game against Lincoln North Star on January 12, 2010. It came down to the buzzer with both teams fighting for the win. The Links proved they know what it takes to pull it together and play until the very last second. With the crowd on their feet the Links won the game 41 to 40.
"It felt great because we lost to them the first time and they thought they were just going to cream us but we showed them we could win," freshman Linh Nguyen said.
"This team was special because they played hard no matter the score. If they were ahead they played as if they were trying to catch up," said Coach Green.
"We won a couple games. Freshman girls have not won in a few years," said Green. You can imagine the team's excitement and pride to be ranked 6th this year.

Gocrl_ FJffoI'C FJvrer-37;
For first-time Varsity Boys Basketball head coach Dan Noble this season has had its ups and downs. Noble, who had been assistant coach for the past 10 years, jokes that as head coach one good thing was that he got a better view of the game ( since assistants aren't allowed to stand during the games). Another was "being able to voice my concerns to the referees," he added.
Ending the regular se~son with a more than respectable 16-6 record ( coming on strong in the last half of the season), Noble led the boys to districts where our prospects looked -good. The Links lost a heartbreaker to Northeast in the final seconds of that first round game, but then got a wild card for the State tournament.
The team got off to a good start and had some great individual performances during the game, but fell short in the end losing to Omaha Central in the first round. "We ran into a eally -good team, and you know it just wasn't our night," Noble said of the game. Central went on to win the state title.
Seniors Dylan Flinn and Tobin Reinwald were named to the All-City team, and Reinwald was named to the All Tournament Team by KOLN/KGIN Channel 10/11.
Senior Vince Smail, who injured his
head ruing practice the day before, played with a cut over his eye. "It could have been my last game , and I didn't want to sit out," Smail said. "It was only stitches, so I could still play."
With a difficult schedule ( 13 road games and only 7 home games), the team was ready for anything. "I think we have one of the tougher schedules of class A," Noble said. "I think our schedule prepared us for the end of the year and getting to a state tournament." The team was 6 and 1 at home.
As for the season as a whole , Noble said it was an enjoyable year all the way around. "We had guys who came to practice every single day , they worked hard , and they had some success of the floor and off the floor," Noble said.
The prospects for next year will include this year's sophomores John Harris and Deandre White. Both were starters most of this season, and the Junior Varsity team ended up with the winning record of 9 and 8.
"Expectations are always pretty high here at Lincoln High, and it's jusrmy job to continue and try to maintain the tradition of Lincoln High Boys Basketball," Noble said.

With a winning season under his belt and atalented group of players to work with, Junior Varsity Boys Basketball coach Mark Larson sees the year as a success in many ways. The JV team was 9-8 for the season, and "most of the players improved throughout the year;' Larson said.
•
The biggest game of the year was at the city tournament at the end of the season One of the goals the team set at the beginning of the year was to be the city champions, but the boys just couldn't pull it off this time. Number 2 seeded LHS faced off against Numbe 1 seeded Lincoln Southeast for the top spot, but despite some excellent play, in the end LHS lost the game in overtime. The Links had lost to the Knights earlier in the season in overtime as well. I
"It was disappointing to lose to them twice, but we played really well and very hard in both games, so win er lose, I was really proud of the way they played and the way they competed;' Coach Larson said.
"The thing that was really unique about that game ~as that the stands were full, and a lot of people were there,' Larson added "There was a lot of excitement in the gym;' he said
The biggest challenge for the team was the lack of practice time as ateam The JV team did not have enough numbers, so they combined with varsity during practice.
With the foundation they built on this year, there is no doubt their talent will lead the way next year.

With a very successful boy's varsity basketball team, there ls a lot of pressure for ~ the younger boys to follow in their accomplished footprints. The Freshman and Reserve ~ basketball teams handled this pressure with poise. With a 4-9 season for both Reserve and ~ Freshman, the boys' hard work and dedication have placed them among some of the best.
With new players entering the program and old ones returning, they all worked together ~ to achieve one goal. "Our year included developing basketball skills for many first time players," said Reserve Coach Richard Jackson. "The team has responded well and they continue to improve," he added. · IJ: Philip E:ddins
The highlight of Reserve season was the win against Norfolk. "We got off to a good ~ start and Norfolk started to catch up before half time but Coach settled us down at half time . ~ We played our best in the second half and won pretty easily," Sophomore Sam Hedrick said. ~ ~ "lt was fun to go up there and play, " Hedrick added.
Freshman Emmanuel Hardy said the game that stood out to him the most was the Omaha Skutt game. "l think overall we played our best defense and we had pretty good , ~ offense too. The Lincoln High Swimming and Diving Team pushed themselves to the limit this year. The swimmers and divers have really proven how good th ey are and how hard they can work as a team. "It's been a good season, we've improved a lot," Coach Richard Conradt said "The team has committed themselves to working harder and improving." Their focus on being a "family" has provided a strong form of teamwork.
One notable a'thlete is freshman and newcomer to the team Ashlie Izzo. "Diving is my passion , Being a freshman and going to state is a crazy fe el," Izzo said. Her coach was even more proud of her, because she was the only diver to go to state. "He was very proud of me and expected for me to go to state," Izzo said
In addition to having a diver going to state, some of the swimmers also showed improvement Charlie Neibel for one said he wasn't good at swimming when he started during the summer of middle school. "I wasn't good, but my mom said I could do it for 3 weeks and soon I liked it." Neibel started during his freshmen y ear and it was one of his highlights. "I went to conference and did the 500m and when I got out of the water all the seniors and my tea mmatei cheered for me." •

Aaron Wright has been on the swim team for 2 years, and this year he got the third place medal at the annual Cotter Invite held here at Lincoln High . "What got me into swimming was a lot my friends on cross country. I also wanted to work out during the winter time and was the perfect place to g o ," he said. "Our coach has really pushed us!" Wright explained.
First year swimmer, Henry Lagrimini has also improved since he started. "I swam for other teams, and my twin sister Emma was on the team la st y ear and enjoyed it," Wright said One of his highlights was his first major competition with other schools during the Cotter Invite.
So with all this success has there really been an outstanding swimmer? According to Coach Richard Conradt, "They all have had outstanding impro v ement. List the roster!"

n 9 , wrestling. Fast forward 11 years, Junior Chase White broke the dry spell. It' s safe to say that a new decade has begun in Lincoln High's wrestling program.
Not only did White win the state medal in the 145lb weight class, he also had 100 wins and a perfect season.
"He put in a lot of off season time," replied Head Coach Andrew Genrich. " it was expected ." Like any athlete a lot of joy can come when winning a state championship. "You've probably heard about me lifting up Genrich", White replied "I was happy and felt accomplished." Last year White finished in second at state. "We weren't trying to put pressure on him but we knew he was capable of winning state this year," explained Genrich White was surely capable and he did prove to himself and everyone that he could take state.
Not to be outdone, the rest of the wrestling team also improved as a whole. Manage r Mimi Doung said , "I know that each every guy in that room pushed each other to their limits and we had a really good season." Team moral even went up also. Coach Genrich explained how the wrestlers were supporting, critiquing, and videotaping other teammates All of this work paid off when five wrestlers were sent to state. They were , Zac Spence , Whit Dawkins, Travis Roepke, Jamal Hill , and Chase White Senior Whit Dawkins placed 6th and Junior Chase White placed 1st.
" The guys that weren ' t in a close match kept wrestling, and they didn't give up ," Coach Genrich explained. From 88lb Evan Sackett to 285lb Travis Roepke , the wrestling team proved that it's not about wins or losses but the heart' and soul of the team.

Ashlie Izzo (9) was the only diver to qualify for State this year from the Swimming and Diving team. "At the beginning of the year, I told everyone to watch out , and it turned out I held myself to that statement, being the only one from the entire aquatic team to make it to state, as a freshman Although I faced a few unexpected bumps along the way and at state, I've overcome them all. I believe everything happens for a reason, and doing better than 11th at State is a goal for next year:'

As the halls begin to crowd, students frantically move around looking for classmates to say their last good byes. To sign their Yearbook so when they look back fifty years from now, they will remember these four years of their lives. Seniors move away to start a new chapter of their lives while the rest of the school moves up a grade, getting closer to that point. Your generation will be the one that changes the world , for good or bad. It's your choice, so make it happen. And please check back soon for future updates.
It's hands-oo learning , and the rats look like us on the inside, so students are more interested - especially those going into health professions.
