Eighth graders this year have contributed a lot to Lefler. They are "the smallest " eighth grade class ever in Lefler.
This year there were many activities that the eighth graders participated in. There were a few who starred in the all-school play, many tried out for the small group singing, they won the canned food drive, and the eighth graders who made student council did a great job at it.
These eighth graders will help lead the school next year very well.
For seven th graders coming to Lefler it was a new and exciting experience. Morning and afternoon blocks, lockers, and skating parties were just a few things that were different to them. We hope they enjoyed their first year at Lefler and their other years at Lefler will be just as nice.
Who are they dreaming about now?

As everyone knows, one of the seve r things that make a good school is the facu h If the staff isn't good, then the school wo r t be good either. When a school has a faculty that h e 3 such devotion , consideration, patience, a r j kindness for their students, they should t 3 appreciated.
What's cropping? What's bleeding? How do we do headlines? What if the printer can't mak~ this picture the right size? When can we set this picture up? How come the faculty never shows up when we schedule their picture? We missed our deadline? Impossible! These were only a few questions that were brought up in yearbook class throughout the year. As Mrs. Shafer pulled her hair out, and explained everything to us time after time, it started to penetrate into our heads. The first thing we had to do was choose a title, "The Turning Point. The Student Council is made up 0 twenty-one members with two clear -1eade sponsors. Each member must have 1.,; erta i qualities to make a good Student member, which are courage, know h N , ne ideas, out going, and leadership q u l ities . When a person runs for Student ( ounc il as when a person runs for some pol i al of fice, they make lots of promises. O n e the get into office, some people don ' t k( 3p th promises they made. Red Cross is an organized group of volunteer students from al I grad es and two warmhearted sponsors. They all work together to spread happiness through the city and help those in need.
This year ' s Red Cross council collected canned goods for Thanksgiving baskets, sold candy grams at Christmas and sponsored Red Cross Week in April. The activities of the week included Teacher Appreciation Day, Costume Day and the annual Student-Faculty volleyball game. The Red Cross also sponsored one dance. Advisors for this group are Ruth Hanson and Wayne Johnson.
The Council of Elrond is made up of ler students from all grades with our lirian, Mr. Dawson, as the sponsor. They ad and share fantasy and science fiction erature.
The Council of Elrond supports those o believe fantasy is reality as it should be. your best friend is an elf, if your cat's me is Gandalf, if you would rather visit ddle earth than Paris , France , then the uncil of Elrond is for you.
The stage band had a great year this year. Led by Mr. Miller , the instrumental music instructor, they participated in four concerts and one all-city contest between all the Junior high schools that decided to take part. Good job stage band , and good luck next year! -
The Lefler Swing Choir and Seventh de Small Group are directed by Ms. Joan ns. Here, at Lefler, we have an extremely d music program, but both of these ups wouldn't be performing if it weren't the hours spent practicing before and r school. Hard work is necessary to be dy for performances. They all work as one, together they show the talents of Lefler dents.
In the Advanced Drama Classes, Mr s Lorenz-Soucek introduced the students to actual plays they wou l d be performing on stage in the spring The classes worked all year on the technical aspects of drama , such as costuming , stag i ng , and gesture. They learned how to speak distinctly and memorize lines. All this culminated in the final productions of the classical "Wizard of Oz. " and " Three Against Death " in April. All of the drama classes combined with the entire music department to perform in the " Wheels " production last fall.

The "Turning Point" is the time when we advance from ninth grade into high school. It will be one of the most important changes to accomplish in our lives. We must leave all of the so-called childish pranks and the immaturity back in the past with our junior high school, while we approach the long, awaiting path of our sophisticated high schools. In some cases we might have to split up with valuable friends. The ninth graders will leave many memories, both good and bad, behind. These memories will b e safely tucked away behind the doors of our mind, and they will more than likely be looked back upon many times throughout the rest of our lives. For the seventh and eighth graders , the "Turning Point" awaits the_m until their ninth grade year. The eighth graders will just have been making acquaintances with some of the most meaningful friends they will have, then they will have to go up against the "Turning Point" and possibly have to split up with some of those friends. The seventh graders wi II have a year to prepare themselves for the "Turning Point". The "Turning Point" is the changing point that all of the Lefler Junior High School students must face.
