There comes a time in a young person's life that they begin to consider their future: love, dating, marriage. Wait, love? Yep, that 4 letter word can be a big thing in a person's life. It can make, or break a person's heart, and it can change a life, for better, or worse. Eighth graders say that having a boyfriend or girlfriend is not too important in the majority of their lives.
8th graders think that there are ma n y specific qualaties they w ould like to have in a boyfr i end, or girlfriend. Some of the qualaties they needed to have were that they had to be cu t e , or pretty , not smart , and on ly half of the 8th graders said t hat their boy/ girlfriend had to be popular.
Do 8th graders think that they are too young to be dating? Everyone except two people said no. As Adam Ortman put it, "I think that 8th grade is WAY too young." John Crane agreed. "I think we should be concerned with more important s tuff ," he said, "like school work." Most students felt that they had the choice when they were going to date or not, but would they tell their parent$? 50% said that they would not tell.
The average amount of people each eighth grader liked at this moment in time was 3. "But I would never go out with more then one girl at a time," Chris Buckley said. "That's just a death wish!"
The majority of 8th graders said that when they go out on dates, they go to parties, they hang out or go to the movies. And after the date are there any expectations??? Most people want their boy/girlfriend to be romantic. 50% wanted their signifigant other to bring them flowers, write them love letters, and give them gifts. All eighth graders said that having a boyfriend or girlfriend is extremely nice. As Niki Oberheu said, "Love is good. It adds a certain something to my life that can't be filled by anything else."

The weather thi s pa t year has been very weird. At the end of December/ the beginning of January, it was in the 50's outside. It was in the 80's until the beginning of October. But the weirdest weather that hit Lincoln thi s year was the '"Storm of '97 .''
On October 25th , it taited to now. There were only supposed to be one or two inches on the ground, not much of a big deal.
But the next day , Lincoln woke up to a disaster. Trees were down, wires were down, most everyone's power was out, and everyone was worried about what was to come.
We didn't have to go to school for an entire week. That was prob~bly one of the most memorable things about the storm for mo t of Lincoln students. It was great to get an unexpected week of school off!
But when there is a good, there is sometimes a bad. We had to make up all the time we missed. That meant that school would start at 7:45 instead of 8:00, and would get out at 3:25 instead of 2:50. For the rest of first semester, we had to go to school for 50 extra minutes!
As I write this now, all of us are till having to go to school for the extra time. Though most of us don't like it very much, eeing everyone walking down the hall reassures me that it isn't too bad, and that we will all survive.

The first dance in a new school is always exciting. It is your chance to dress up and impress the guys or girls (whatever the case may be) with your fabulous dance moves and stunning outfit, or it used to be.
This year's seventh grade dance fell on Friday, November 7. The dance started at 3:00 PM and went
until 5:00 PM. Most people seemed to like it and were having a good time. A lot of the seventh graders, though,
talk or cool down after a dance or two. The Student Council members and those from Journalism did their best to encourage the seventh graders to dance. Complete with everything from a DJ to coo-kies and soda, the student council really did a good job. The cafeteria was a very popular place

The fall of 1997 brought a change in schools for the new 7th grader . Along with a new school it brought new views, new trends, and new friends.
7th grader at Irving like to dress comfortably. Widelegjeans, Jnco , Nikes, striped shrits and thermals top the list along with ball chain and hemp necklaces, 70' s clothes, and flared jeans.
When it comes to shopping each 7th grader is pretty unique. While some like shopping at Gadzooks and Hot Topic, The Gap and Claire's Boutique are well liked too. Going to vintage stores for retro clothes is popular also, along with going to Target and getting in on bargains.
Music likes ranged from pop rock to ska, but the favorite was alternative. Their favorite T.V show is clearly "South Park."
It takes two to tango!
Rach e l Res tau models a popular look: Thermals under T-shirts
After school activities ranged from basketball to dance to singing. Some 7th graders liked going skateboarding and hanging out at skateboarding store .
Each 7th grader is pretty unique. Many take pride in this and the uniquenes of the scho(?l. Jacque Niles said, "Everyone wears what they want at Irving, and that is cool."
