This is the beginning of a new day.

When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place that we've traded for it.

We want it to be gain, not loss . . . good, not evil success, not failure ... in order that w e shall not forget the price we paid for it.

We can waste it or use it for good.

What we do today is very important because we are exchanging a day of our lives for it.

The Power To Make A Difference

Dr. Lyle K. Bargman's fascination with his work comes from ''the tremendous potential to change the lives of young adults."

Dr. Bargman was born in Crab Orchard, Nebraska, where he also received his high school education. He later earned his bachelors degree at Nebraska Wesleyan and his ma~ters and PhD at UNL. His wife, Dee, is a math paraprofessional at Pound Junior High.

Dr. Bargman taught at Wilbur and Wahoo for a.few years. He then served as principal at Meadowlane Elementary for 1O years. He has been principal at Goodrich for 20 years.

His duties are to manage the school budget, supervise teachers, and enforce the rules of the school. His goals are to meet the needs of the students in terms of curriculum and to help teachers do the best job possible.

It is hard work and dedication that makes Dr. Barg man such successful and well-liked principal.

"Simply fascinating," are the words vice principal Valerie Hubbard-Harris uses to describe her work with young adults. Her goal for the 1988-1989 sshool year was to have the staff and students be the best they can be. She thinks it is wonderful to see kids make changes in their lives.

Mrs. Harris was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Februa ry 14, 1952. Her husband, Terry, works for the state. She has a bachelors degree in secondary education social studies an d a masters in administration and curriculum and is working on her PhD in school administration.

Her duties as vice principal are attendance, student discipline, staff evaluations, and "anything else that coQ1es up." She has taught twelfth grade and has served as a vice principal in Arizona. Her neverending work shows how challenging it is serving as a vice principal in a junior high.

Bringing The Future To Us

The most rewarding moment as a teacher, according to Mr. Kent Swanson is, "Seeing students set goals and accomplish them, regardless of the difficulty involved."

This is true about the staff as a whole; they are known for their high expectations for themselves and students alike. The .Goodrich faculty's main goal is for students to go above and beyond the call of duty; to strive for their dreams and expand their horizons.

Much like the Mission Control Center at NASA, the faculty of Goodrich Junior High does their best to present the young people of today with the opportunity to reach these goals by maintaining a healthy learning environment.

Not only do Goodrich Junior High teachers try to understand the youth of Goodrich, they also have fun doing it.

Above and Beyond

Like the Mercury mission and the space shuttle Discovery, eighth graders at Goodrich Junior High have strived to go "Above and Beyond" any expectations. Their hard work and determination have brought them nearer to the countdown to success. Mr. Thomas , an eighth grade Social Studies teacher, believes that they will "continue to grow and that all their dreams will come true."

The energetic spirit and the outstanding talent of individuals in the 1988-89 eighth grade will be remembered for years to come. As they move closer to experiencing high school, their exploring spirit will help them to go "Above and Beyond" any barriers!

Reaching For The World Of Tomorrow

Yearbook dedication teacher, Mrs. Rae Green, has high hopes for this year's ninth graders. Her mission is to help them succeed in the world of tom mo row.

"It is great to see so many ninth graders with a positive attitude about their school work.

My first semester students are a very 'sharp' group of young people. At least 90 percent of them try to do their best and care about their performance. Over two-thirds of my first semester students received a first quarter grade a one or a two.

This year's class has the students. Quiet: Heidi Woerner and noisy: Jenee Roach and Janis Plau Vickie Nicholson and Greg Kubert, at Herr and Troy Heller, friendly: Raejean Kim Jochum, hardworking: Chris B Sean Wilson.

To describe this year's ninth gr two words, I would say they are SHARP!!''

Don't Worry, Be Happy Torrance Banks flashes a quick smile for the camera in Government class.

members developing the yearbook theme.

" This year ' s class of ninth graders are a really good support group for each other; they are always there to help one another. Ninth grade provides a chance to grow into responsible young adults. I hope next year's ninth graders uphold that image. "

While on the moon, astronauts don't get to enjoy the fine foods that we do here on earth. Gourmet Club prepares food to our tasty satisfaction. This is the first year for the new club and things are really "cooking". They have baked cookies to sell after school, decorated gingerbread houses for the holidays, and visited restaurants to tour the facilities and sample th e ir goods.

Student Council

People at NASA work together in order to work towards a common goal. Student Council members work in unity to provide for the benefit of Goodrich. To fulfill this goal, they had a Thanksgiving Food Drive (the most successful ever), participated in a new organization sponsored by the Lincoln Police Department to help curb trouble among youths in Lincoln, and held Student Cou nci I Dances.

Red Cross is a volunteer group of students who take the time and energy to help others. Their work has included making decorations for Village Manor Nursing Home, creating crafts for the YWCA craft sale, and selling c andy canes during the • holidays. They also donated $50 for the prevention of child abuse. One of their most important goals is to have Goodrich be the best represented junior high in the Red Cross Walk which took place April 8th. What? Who? Where? When? Why? How? These are questions asked by Journalism students when they are tracking down an important story. These students not only get the story, but acquire confidence from meeting and interviewing people , and, just like NASA's astronauts, achieve success by working as part of a team.

The 1988-89 Yearbook Staff

Getting the job done, meeting deadlines, and completing assignments are only a few of the things that the space program and the 1988-89 Yearbook Staff had in common. Hours of drafting layouts, cropping pictures, and typing in copy were spent in making this yearbook that you are holding. Under the direction of Yearbook adviser, Leah Magee, we were able to organize and utilize our talents much in the same way that the shuttle commander did 180 miles above the Earth.

This year has been a great one for the students and staff at Goodrich. The Yearbook Staff is proud to bring this book of memories to you.
