Band & Orchestra
Have you ever wondered what it is like in Band and Orchestra? Most people think it is just a boring place where someone plays an instrument. That is because they don't know what it's really like. Most of the students in band and orchestra said that "yes" they do like it there.
Kasey Dunaski, a 7th grade orchestra student, says that 7th and 8th grade orchestra is playing, movi~ / Classical music and says that on a scale from one to ten she would choose, "in the middle" for how much she likes the music.
Bryndyn Wright, an 8th grade band student, says that 7th and 8th grade band is playing "jazz" music and that he likes the music they are playing.
Kayla Tamanaha, a 6th grade orchestra student, thinks that 6th grade orchestra "could improve a little because I think we stay in the same place all the time."
Most students said that they are doing something interesting this year but Mr. Marolf, band and orchestra director, says that he is "trying to incorporate SmartMusic (a computer program) into my lesson plans." For the first concert, they are playing 'Christmas in the Kitchen' with all the groups.
So overall, Band and Orchestra are pretty interesting classes if you really think about it. Even though it can sometimes be hard, it is still fun.

-Mrs. Zabawa

Yearbook
The Yearbook staff is a group of students who meet every day during 3rd period in their Publications class. This is where the yearbook is made. Publications is the combination of the following two words: public and relations. In Publications, they started off writing stories and interviewing. They learned to use quotes from the interview to write phenomenal stories. A main focus they had with stories was to inform students what was happening at Dawes. The students also learn a lot about how to create a yearbook so that they can make it exactly how they want it.
Publications consists of thirty-one eighth graders, and the teacher, Ms. Bruce. The students were picked based on what Academic Connection classes they chose in a survey given to them in seventh grade.
