Helping to achieve wider policy

Letham4All believes we are contributing to the achievement of national strategies that focus on:

 tackling poverty and inequality, including child poverty

 developing and sustaining placebased approaches

 support community-led regeneration

 ensure a just transition to net zero to tackle climate challenge

Why Letham4All SCIO is needed?

There are lots of statistics that describe Letham and the our neighbouring communities. The general picture they give us, is of areas which do not compare favourably with the rest of Perth and Kinross across a wide range of health and well-being indicators.

We have a wide social mix between older people and young families, and statistics demonstrate high levels of low income households, falling into the poorest locally and nationally.

Locally we believe we can support the Perth and Kinross Community Plan objectives to achieve the local outcomes:

 Giving every child the best start in life

 Developing educated, responsible and informed citizens

 Promoting a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable economy

 Supporting people to lead independent, healthy and active lives

The tangible impact of these indicators present is of loneliness, low self-esteem and self-worth, addictions, trauma, and poor physical and mental health, all of which feel worse because of the COVID 19 pandemic and the growing cost of living crisis.

Older people in our community have told us that their confidence has declined. They tell us they are less active and can be alone for long periods of time. They are very worried about rising energy costs.

Parents and carers tell us about not being able to make ends meet even when they are working and talk about the stress, shame, and stigma they feel having to make tough decisions about how they manage the household budget.

Young people tell us about the worry they have for their parents. Some tell us they know their parents aren’t eating so they can. Their families go without so many things, just to get by. The impact of the pandemic gives them concern, and they are worried about getting a job.

However, our community have identified activities to reduce the impact of poverty and food insecurity, help to increase their employability, reduce social isolation, and improve their health and well-being. They have great ideas of what could help find local solutions to local problems.

Letham4All SCIO believe by operating the new Letham Community Hub and supporting our community to develop their ideas to make positive differences in peoples lives and building stronger community networks, resilience and support will make a lasting change for all.

Our funding strategy

Our current funding strategy is to seek external seed funding to cover the majority of the staffing, and operating costs of the Letham4All SCIO and the Letham Community Hub for the first 3 years of operation, whilst growing income streams from building and our activities.

We believe Letham4All SCIO will be able generate a sustainable income over a development period of 3 years of operating the building, through rental income (commercial and concession), Gym memberships, Service Level Agreements, Grants and Donations/Fundraising. Our aim by 2026 to have funding strategy based on 50% Letham4All Income; 30% Service Level Agreements and Commissioned Services and 20% Grants and Donations.

Funding has already been secured from the National Lottery to purchase the Letham Community Hub building, when the current building and refurbishment works are completed, and Letham4All will safeguard the ownership of it for the community.

Letham4All will also continue to secure funding to support our partnership working, as a Community Anchor Organisation . This funding enables Letham4All to support the valuable work of other organisations which benefit our community . It can help us increase the amount and availability of much needed support in challenging financial times.
