A Benefit Supporting Loyola Academy’s Tuition Assistance Program

Dear Friends of Loyola Academy,

www.wintrust.com/communityimpact

Welcome to The Grace of Giving, Loyola’s 54th annual Ramble.

Going the extra mile from less than a mile away.

For more than half a century, the Ramble has celebrated Loyola Academy’s extraordinary mission, which unites us in faith and fellowship. And, throughout its storied history, the Ramble has remained the single largest fundraising benefit in support of Jesuit education at Loyola.

We gather tonight to celebrate success and provide for the future. With your help, we hope to raise more than $1.4M for Loyola’s Tuition Assistance Program which benefits over 600 Ramblers annually. Our efforts this evening will make the dreams of many young women and men come true.

The Ramble is an extraordinary effort. For their dedication and hard work over many months, my sincerest thanks to our 2023 Ramble Leadership Committee: Diana Barr, Lori and Robert Benvenuto, Lori and George Chiampas ‘89, Dody and Peter Hickey, Monica and Nick Robertson, and Karen Stroble and Chris Irwin. I am grateful for the many volunteers who have shared their time and talents so generously and our special events staff who have poured over every detail to make this night come together in such a special way.

WE’RE PR OUD TO SPONSOR

And, finally, to our guests: whether this is your first Ramble or one of many over the years, I welcome you warmly. On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of Loyola, I thank you all for your spirited participation. How blessed we are to be here tonight—together—celebrating the

Thanks for transforming lives!

March 9, 2024

Dear Friends of Loyola Academy,

Welcome to Inspire Excellence, Transform Lives, Loyola’s 55th annual Ramble.

For more than half a century, the Ramble has celebrated Loyola Academy’s extraordinary mission, uniting us in faith and fellowship. And, throughout its storied history, the Ramble has remained the single largest fundraising event in support of Jesuit education at Loyola.

Your presence tonight supports a beloved tradition in our school community. The Ramble has been reimagined many times over the years. Different eras have witnessed different styles, including black-tie dinner dances and less formal cocktail parties. Our auction has been presented in live, silent, online, and virtual formats. It’s fun to reminisce on the evolution of Ramble, but there’s an even deeper sense of joy in remembering that one thing has remained consistent all this time: the goal of transforming the lives of our students.

We gather tonight to celebrate our past and provide for the future. With your help, we hope to raise more than $1.4M for Loyola’s Tuition Assistance Program, which benefits over 600 Ramblers annually. Your generosity this evening will make possible the dreams and aspirations of many young women and men.

Thank you!

The Ramble is an extraordinary effort. For their dedication and hard work over many months, my sincerest thanks to our 2024 Ramble Chair Couples: Kristy and David Burden ‘88, P ‘24, ‘26; Nicole and Stephen Harris P ‘26; and Anne and Kelly Ryan P ‘26. I am also grateful for the many volunteers who have shared their time and talents so generously and our advancement staff members who have poured over every detail to make this night come together in such a special way.

And, finally, to our guests: whether this is your first Ramble or one of many over the years, I welcome you warmly. On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of Loyola, I thank you all for your spirited participation. How blessed we are to be here tonight—together—celebrating the mission and vision of Loyola Academy.

PAOLO TIONGSON ‘17

Paolo Tiongson graduated from Loyola Academy in 2017. He was an O’Shaughnessy Scholar and a four-year letter winner for the Boy’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams, serving as captain for both during his senior year. He left his footprint by qualifying for State in 2013, 2014 and 2016, and was a four-time conference champion as a Rambler. During his senior campaign, he earned all-state accolades in cross country with a 14th-place finish.

He continued competing as a member of the Marquette University Track & Field team while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with a minor in Marketing in 2021. Paolo currently lives in Chicago and works as an Account Executive at Firm360, a project management company designed for accountants.

In looking back on his Loyola Academy experience, Paolo spoke highly about his time both on and off the track. Paolo recognized that it was an economics class at Loyola that led to his interest in studying business at Marquette, which steered him on his current career path.

Outside of school and work, Paolo’s passion for running has driven him as a leader in the Chicago community. Paolo has volunteered as an assistant cross country and track coach at a Chicago high school. He also coached for Chicago Youth United Performance (CYUP), a winter training program designed to get Chicagoland high school athletes in shape for the track and field season.

Paolo is a first-gen student who is very grateful for the opportunity to attend Loyola because of the school’s Tuition Assistance Program. His one piece of advice to Rambler students is to make the most out of their experience and to prioritize balance–you’re only a Rambler student once!

Congaree – Where World-Class Golf Meets Southern Charm and the Low Country

You and two friends will join Rambler parent Tom Danis P ’19, ’24 at the exclusive Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina, for 24 hours of golf and hospitality. Upon arriving at the historic 3,200-acre 18th-century estate, your group will head out for your first round of golf. Afterward, the group will dine in The Lodge, voted one of the top 30 “Greatest Clubhouses in America” by Golf Digest. The four of you will rest well in one of the four-bedroom cottages adjacent to the course to get some Zzzs before rising in the morning to play another 18 holes.

At #42 of Golf Digest’s “100 Greatest”, this Tom Fazio-designed course was founded in 2017. Noted for playing firm and fast, the course was built in the spirit of the Heathland courses found in Great Britain and the sandbelt courses found in Australia, with elements of Royal Melbourne, Pinehurst No. 2, and Pine Valley. The relatively flat par-71 layout can stretch more than 7,700 yards and has shot values described as “unsurpassed” by former Masters and Open Championship winner Marc O’Meara.

With easy access from Savannah and Hilton Head, test your mettle at the future site of the 2025 Arnold Palmer Cup!

The winner is to contact the donor as soon as possible to identify agreed-upon 2024 dates. The buyer and two guests are responsible for their transportation expenses to and from Congaree Golf Course.

Sunday Mass and Brunch at Canisius House with Rev. Gregory

Your group of ten will enjoy an intimate Mass with Loyola Academy President Rev. Gregory J. Ostdiek, SJ, in the front garden of the Canisius House in Evanston — just steps away from the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. Following Mass, indulge in a catered brunch using a $1,000 gift certificate donated by Quest Catering. Begin with a mimosa or Bloody Mary toast followed by a delicious buffet of eggs benedict, buttermilk french toast topped with seasonal berries, bourbon maple bacon, or other sumptuous selections of your choosing.

Canisius House, named for St. Peter Canisius, SJ, was built in the 1920s and designed in an Italianate style by architects Mayo & Mayo. The house was donated to the Society of Jesus and made into a Jesuit community in 1957. Bonus…for the more venturesome folk of your group, work on your backstroke before working up your appetite! Take a cold water plunge and embark on a ½ mile swim in Lake Michigan with avid swimmer Fr. Greg before the event.

Not available for Palm Sunday, Easter, or the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Chicago Blackhawks Package for 4

Bid now to win four 100-level tickets to a Chicago Blackhawks 2024–2025 regular season home game. While the action on the ice will be thrilling, ‘check’ out the rest of this package!

The pre-game excitement begins as you and your three teammates break the ice (and some bread). Join Blackhawks Chairman, CEO, and Rambler alumnus Danny Wirtz ’95 for dinner, along with another Blackhawks executive at United Center’s Quennie’s Supper Club, featuring familiar midwest hospitality & contemporary cuisine, with an emphasis on classic elements of fine dining. Fun fact: Quennie’s is named after Danny’s great-grandmother Virginia “Queenie” Wirtz.

Now, Danny is the fourth generation of the Wirtz family to own the Blackhawks, and he continues to provide strategic counsel in other family business ventures, including Wirtz Realty and Breakthru Beverage.

A lifelong fan of the game, Danny was the starting goaltender for the Loyola Academy varsity hockey team. In 1995, as a senior, he and his team won the state championship in what was the new United Center.

This past June, Danny was on the stage in Nashville when the Blackhawks selected 17-year-old phenom Connor Bedard first overall at the 2023 NHL Draft—arguably, the biggest draft pick in team history. As part of this package, you will go home with a signed Connor Bedard Blackhawk’s jersey.

What’s more? Leave the car at home! Enjoy your $400 Smart Cars certificate for easy drop-off and pickup.

Be sure you do your homework and come prepared to ask questions and talk about hockey!

Caribbean Living for 4 Couples In Private Villa

St. Maarten is a unique gem among picturesque Caribbean destinations: one wondrous island split between two separate countries. The Dutch and French have coexisted peacefully here since the Partition Treaty of 1648. (No wonder they call it the “Friendly Island!”) Easily pass between both sides to explore one of the most culturally diverse destinations in the world.

At this breathtaking Dutch-side villa, your party of eight will have plenty of room to spread out amongst the four spacious bedrooms with kingsize beds, ensuite bathrooms and amazing ocean views during your 7-night, 8-day stay.

Begin your day with a spectacular sunrise from the terrace, which offers panoramic views of the crystal blue water, or stroll down to the white sands of Dawn Beach and experience an amazing sunrise that earned the shoreline its name. Snorkeling anyone? Also known for its clear waters, Dawn Beach offers an underwater adventure where coral reefs are burgeoning with exotic fish and are within an easy swim from the shore. Looking for something poolside? Take a dip in the private pool overlooking Oyster Pond.

In the evening, dine on the terrace or simply kick-back. Take advantage of the softly lit terraces surrounded by magical views, gentle trade winds and swaying palm trees. Privacy and solitude await under the pergola enveloped with beautiful gardens and exotic flora. Catherine, the housekeeper, is a true treasure and will visit twice during your stay. Consider using the $500 gift card included and request that she prepares one of her (soon to be your) favorite local cuisine dinners.
