In June 2022, my family and I relocated to Cache Valley so that my wife could begin graduate work in marriage and family therapy at Utah State University. She graduated in May 2024.
We have four children ages 8, 5, 2, and 9 months.
My dad was a successful entrepreneur, running a residential development company specializing in beautiful, custom homes in Holladay, Utah.
I believe I’ve always had a passion for interior design and architecture-- and now I have the determination to pursue my dreams.
I’m applying for an MFA - IAD to deepen my knowledge of classical architecture and design, and to discover my unique voice as a designer.
Sources of inspiration:
DESIGN HEROS
Kelly Wearstler Antoni Gaudi
Kelly Wearstler Interior Design
I purchased a subscription to MasterClass for the sole purpose of learning from Kelly Wearstler. I love how intentional she is with even the most minor details of her designs.
Catalan Modernist Architect
Having spent two years in Catalonia, I became fascinated with Gaudi’s unique voice and influence on Modernism. My favorite works of his are Casa Batlló and Parc Güell.
Helen Parker
deVOL Kitchens
Helen’s ability to transform any space to feel lived in with just a few props inspires me. I resonate deeply with her classical and eclectic style.
Sources of inspiration:
PLACES TO VISIT
Spain
I love the language, the accent, the fashion in Spain. I find something new that inspires me every time I wander along the tiny streets of the Barri Gotic or people-watch on Las Ramblas.
Italy
My wife’s family is Italian. Over the eight years we’ve been married and our five trips to the region, I’ve grown to love the culture, cuisine, and history. If we could insert our family for six months anywhere in the world, it would be in a small town in Italy.
Flea
Markets
I can spend hours wandering through an outdoor flea market. I like to pay the extra fee to enter early to see the stands before the crowds pick over them.
Vintage
Shops
Balboa
Chicago Park
While living in San Diego for four years, any time I needed a reset, I would sit on the grass in Balboa Park and soak in the breathtaking beauty around me.
It only took one time on an Architecture Boat Tour on the Chicago River to fall in love with the diverse and vibrant blend of buildings in the Windy City.
BookstoRES
Rarely do I visit a vintage shop to purchase an item, rather, I go mostly to observe -- I love to see how the owner has displayed their treasures, to feel the texture of an arm chair or a pillow, and to smell old books.
I love perusing the vintage section at bookstores and finding a book with a beautiful cover. You can never have too many books when designing a space.
Thrift
Stores
The Logan D.I. has become a customary stop for me. I find great satisfaction in discovering items others have passed on and working with a budget. I also enjoy refinishing furniture and restoring worn items.
