Connect with Katie

The sun is finally shining! Thank you for your patience and flexibility with the weather and impact on school operations this week. We have missed our students these last few days. I hope you stayed warm and were able to have some quality family time. We made the best of our time together in the Kordel household, but one family member was not happy that his schedule was impacted. Our dog, Barnaby, was clearly put out that we were home infringing on his nap time and space.
Your snow day pictures made us smile. So many pictures of happy kids and dogs. Some of my favorite childhood memories are snow day memories. Jacob and Claire got the biggest kick out of zooming down the slides in the park that were covered in ice.
I am excited that our high school athletes and fine arts students are back in action with competitions and events today and this weekend. Go Leopards!
You can expect communication regarding make-up days early next week. Enjoy the weekend. We cannot wait to see you on Monday morning!
There is only ONE LOVEJOY and we are ALL LEOPARDS!
Katie Kordel SuperintendentLeopard Snow Day FUN!
Lovejoy Community, thank you for sharing your snow day pictures with us on social media! There is something magical about a snow day! Four is questionable....
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this winter weather. #KidsComeFirst #OneHeartOneLovejoy
The District is currently studying master scheduling options to address the following areas:
A staff stakeholder master scheduling committee has been formed and is currently researching master scheduling options that include an 8 period day, 7 period day, block schedule and 4 day student school week. In addition, consideration of a fifth option, converting instructional days to teacher planning days is under review. The committee is responsible for exploring the impact of the 5 master scheduling options on the 3 areas noted above.
As part of this preliminary research, the committee is gathering feedback from parents and staff. The committee will present current findings to the Lovejoy Board of Trustees during the February 14th Board Workshop meeting The committee is not making a formal recommendation at the February 14 Board Meeting, but rather sharing the current findings of their research and the survey results. The purpose of the survey is to gather initial feedback from staff and parents. The survey will be available for parents’ responses through February 8, 2023.
Some parents and staff experienced initial issues with the master schedule survey We worked with the survey company to resolve the issue If you have continued issues, please reach out to Dr. Laurie Tinsley laurie tinsley@lovejoyisd.net, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, or Dr. Diana Saylak diana saylak@lovejoyisd.net, Instructional Technology Coordinator.
Thank you for completing the survey.

1. 2. 3.In January our Lovejoy campuses continued the incredible tradition of "adopting" a Board Member in celebration of School Board Appreciation month. This tradition is a wonderful way for Trustees to continue connecting with campuses, and it reinforces the importance of "giving and service" in our Graduate Profile for students.
A BIG shoutout to our students, teachers, administrators, and PTO's for the heartwarming campus visits they coordinated!

Kelly Cowan, Kellie English, and Dakota Nguyen had the opportunity to spotlight the great things happening in Lovejoy ISD at a recent math conference!
The Metroplex Math Coordinators (McMath) hosted their annual Ed Camp on January 27th. Kelly Cowan, PK-12 Mathematics Coordinator, hosted a session called, Writing in All Content Areas, highlighting the ways Lovejoy is intentionally incorporating writing into all curriculum, including mathematics. This learning strategy directly supports the Future Ready skills identified by our Lovejoy 2030 Strategic Planning Committee.
In addition, the three attended several sessions to learn from area school districts about math instruction and math leadership, and will bring back the learning to share with our Lovejoy Staff.
Thank you for representing Lovejoy with passion and pride!
