Welcome to LOUIS Users Conference (LUC) 2015! We are happy to return once again to the C.B. Pennington Jr. Conference Center. We have an exciting conference planned this year. This has been a year of great change for the consortium, with more still to come. We seized the opportunity to migrate our SirsiDynix Symphony system from a locally-hosted environment to SirsiDynix’s SaaS environment. We are also moving forward with SirsiDynix’s BLUEcloud suite. We said goodbye to an old friend, A-to-Z Admin, and migrated to EBSCO’s new interface, Full Text Finder with Holdings Link Management. Many of us have had to rethink our collection development policies, moving from traditional print to predominantly electronic collections with new emphasis on e-Books and e-Textbooks, as well as reinvent library spaces. As with most journeys, we have experienced a few bumps and bruises, with the possibility of more to come along the way. However, we will continue to weather any storm as we always do—together. In light of our recent experiences, this year’s conference is focused on embracing change and taking advantage of opportunities that come our way. Remember to take advantage of the number of rest areas, patios, and meeting rooms available in the facility for networking and collaborative opportunities. There is also a selfie booth if you would like to take a break for a bit of light-hearted fun with friends and colleagues. Please share your memories with us! We would like to thank everyone who submitted presentations and posters for this event. We would like to thank our sponsors for their generosity: EBSCO Information Services, SirsiDynix, IEEE, LearningExpress, Annual Reviews, CAS, Credo Reference, Gale Cengage, OCLC, Thomson Reuters, and Marcive. Most of all, we would like to thank all of you for attending and bringing your expertise to LUC 2015. You, our partners, have the vision, knowledge, experience, and motivation to carry us into the future. We look forward to experiencing LUC 2015 with each of you! The LOUIS Team Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable. —William Pollard

Welcome Main Auditorium A

From the Dewey Decimal System To Distributed Classrooms: The Voyage of a Librarian’s Son Main Auditorium A My mother’s time as a music and art librarian at the New York Public Library, helped set me on the path of my 35+ year career in both the academic and military worlds. While a personal journey, I will focus on the teaching/learning/research trinity which has changed dramatically during that time, in large part due to the technology represented by the LOUIS consortia. While not a discussion of "disruptive innovation" per se, my theme is the need to embrace change. Dr. Joseph C. Rallo, Commissioner of Higher Education

Additionally it will illustrate how ILLiad's Document Delivery module is utilized to process these article requests. Questions and discussion will be encouraged throughout the session. Alt-Advocacy in Special Collections: Collection, Preservation and Long-Term Access to Louisiana alternative publications in the Digital Age Room 327 Alternative press publications in print present interesting challenges and opportunities for libraries to advocate for alternative cultural history sources in Louisiana. Holdings of free weeklies and irregular art, music, and political magazines have significant research value for researchers, but at the present time libraries may not have policies that can accommodate changing issues relating to collection development, long-term access, and digital preservation. With the vigorous community of printmakers, illustrators, artists, zinemakers, and activists who are producing what could be considered ephemeral materials that speak of 21st century alternative culture, there is, most often, no direct digital equivalent. This panel explores the Adding Document Delivery Services to an ways that libraries can approach this latter group of Interlibrary Loan Department sources as a collecting area for special collections Room 326 and establish outreach relationships that could pave The ILL Department in Southeastern Louisiana the way to digital preservation. Panelists and University's library first began dabbling in article attendees will also discuss potential methods for delivery in the fall of 2012. Planning a Library-Wide Open House: DataDriven Decision Making in Action Room 324 In February and October of 2014, LSU Libraries hosted two open house events to highlight services and resources available to LSU undergraduates. Data collected from the pilot event in February was used to determine the feasibility of an annual open house. Likewise, the data collected from the subsequent October open house was useful in facilitating change for future events. Join librarian Rebecca Kelley, chair of the LSU Libraries Open House Planning Team, as she discusses how datadriven decision making can be used in Rebecca Kelley Topics: Public Relations & Marketing, Public Services & Outreach, Statistics The Remedial Challenges Faced by College Students Main Auditorium B Colleges continue to encounter the challenges of educating and offering tools students need in order to be successful. One challenge is the dropout rate faced by both 2-year and 4-year academic institutions. To succeed in today's fast-paced, information-driven economy, students need strong basic skills to communicate effectively, solve problems, and work efficiently. Colleges are also challenged to provide students with effective remedial resources to improve retention, enable academic success prior to graduation, and assist them in moving into careers. Students frequently need valuable added skills practice to master the subject matter, stay engaged, and graduate. By helping students get and stay on the right track academically, colleges can better support students' career goals and get them workforce ready. Planned is a discussion of how LearningExpress can assist in identifying the issues facing a rising percentage of students and work with academic institutions to address them.

Mike Harwell Topics: Electronic Resources, Vendor Products & Services, Public Services & Outreach SciFinder Room 322 SciFinder is a research discovery application that provides unlimited access to the world's most comprehensive and authoritative source of references, substances and reactions in chemistry and related sciences. In addition to basic traffic information that describes how many interactions users have in EDS, libraries can now see how often limiters and facets are used, which customizations make an impact, and what types of materials students and researchers are using. These data elements can be used to power visualizations and graphical dashboards to bring the activity that happens in EDS to life! The ACRL Framework Deconstructed: What Does It All Really Mean? Change is always hard, but it's even harder when you don't quite understand the changes. For many librarians, such is the case with the new ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. Discover just what the different frames mean in terms anyone can understand. Then maybe you'll be as excited to try them out as we are! Sonnet Ireland, Jennifer Jackson Topics: Information Literacy Aesthetically Pleasing and Useful: Xavier University of Louisiana Library Renovations Continue It was at the LOUIS Users Conference (LUC) in 2013 that three Xavier University librarians first presented their ideas for renovating their library. At that time, the Xavier Library had not undergone any renovations for aesthetic or functional reasons with the exception of repairing carpet and furniture damage experienced during Hurricane Katrina in

2005. This poster illustrates how discarding items formally collected in print and currently collected electronically, gave new life to the research spaces at the Xavier University of Louisiana Library. Board of Regents Application and Project Workflow Each year the Louisiana Board of Regents awards around $2 million worth of grants to campuses around the state. This poster session will walk through the process that the UNO Library went through to obtain an equipment grant in support of Computer Science and the Film Arts program with the goal of developing and interdisciplinary course for video game development. The poster session will highlight some of the issues that developed in writing the grant, look at state purchasing requirements, and ultimately development of library space into an Innovation Lab. Lora Amsberryaugier Topics: Library Management & Planning, Board of Regents Grant Non-profits, Tax Exempt Status, and You Are you thinking of starting a non-profit? Are you sure your organization's status is valid? How do you file? What code section is right for you? Taxes are boring but important to think about! There are different types of non-profit organizations and different code sections for each, but tax exempt status isn't automatic. This poster will detail ACRLLA's decision to change its tax exempt status section under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c), the process to apply for exemption, Louisiana State and Federal forms to file, and other considerations involved with non-profits and tax exemption. As capacity increased in Technical Services, how did Access Services respond? What preliminary legwork had to be completed? What logistics demanded discussion to preserve patron satisfaction while undergoing this massive project? How was the reclassification originally envisioned? What were unexpected issues?
