Costakis Loizou, Executive Chairman of Louis Group, shares his ethos and story in hospitality.
words ELENA PANAYIDES
Mr. Loizou, how does your notable family heritage shape the ethos and vision of the Louis Group in the contemporary tourism and hospitality landscape?
My family’s storied history and heritage have profoundly shaped the ethos and vision of the Louis Group. Our deep roots in the hospitality industry, instilled a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to excellence. My father’s legacy, in particular, drives us all to uphold the values of hospitality, warmth, and personalised service, which are crucial to creating memorable travel experiences. The principles of integrity, hard work, and innovation instilled in me from a young age, are driving forces behind the Louis Group’s continued evolution in tourism. These values are at the core of everything we do.
As an entrepreneur, inheriting a proud legacy, tourism has always been my passion. Honesty guides my decision-making and interactions with partners, and employees, ensuring that we operate with transparency and respect. From my first professional steps within, we strove for exceptional quality for our hotels and cruise liners portfolio. This commitment enhanced our reputation as a trusted brand in both Cyprus and Greece.
What has truly kept me moving forward is my entrepreneurial spirit and having had the privilege of excellent collaborators. We constantly look for new ways to enhance the guest experience, whether through the development of unique hotel concepts, cruising, other tourism-related activities and innovations, or new market expansion. Our recent hotel launches in Greece and Cyprus, exemplify our blending of traditional hospitality values with modern innovations, to meet guests’ evolving needs.
What inspires you to enhance the legacy of Louis Group in an ever-changing industry?
The story of the Louis Group began in 1935, crafted by my visionary father Louis Loizou, who is considered the ‘father of tourism’ in Cyprus. I inherited his passion and after my studies in Athens, London, and Geneva, I returned to Cyprus to nurture my father’s travel and shipping agency, into a beacon in the Mediterranean travel industry. After his passing in 1971, I took on the leadership of the Louis Group, launching the Sunotels division in 1976, which later developed into Louis Hotels. By 1992, we had expanded into a leading chain of hotels in the most popular Greek and Cypriot travel destinations.
The beauty, diversity and great potential of both Cyprus and Greece, combined with a deep commitment to my family’s legacy continually inspires me. Witnessing the joy and satisfaction of our guests across our properties in iconic locations and our developing businesses, drives us to continually enhance the Louis Group and especially Louis Hotels. The dynamic nature of the hospitality industry presents endless opportunities to innovate and adapt, ensuring that Louis Hotels, and most recently the capsule Exclusive Collection in Greece, remain the preferred choice for discerning travellers.
I aim to leave a legacy marked by distinction, creativity, and an unwavering dedication to showcasing the beauty and culture of Cyprus and Greece. For the next generation of the Loizou family, I know I have imparted the values and passion for hospitality that have fuelled our achievements.
Throughout my career, I have always upheld the significance of teamwork, valuing the perspectives and ideas of my highly professional team. The concept of service has been a core priority, also inherited from my father and instilled in myself and my colleagues over the years. It transcends rhetoric, emerging as a philosophy that resonates throughout the Louis Group. My true love for hospitality, imbues every action, and this legacy is now passing to the next generation, my son Louis Loizou who is the Executive Director of the Group, my daughter Marissa and my five grandchildren.
What is your vision for the future of Louis Group, and how do you plan to stay ahead of industry trends?
My vision is to expand our footprint in Cyprus and Greece while maintaining our commitment to excellence and personalised service. To stay ahead of industry trends, we plan to embrace new technologies, enhance our sustainability efforts, and continuously improve our guest services and offerings. By fostering a culture of innovation and adaptability, we can anticipate and respond to the evolving needs of our guests and keep pace with the changing times.
I envision Louis Hotels to continue being acknowledged as a pioneer and frontrunner in hospitality where the essence of Greece and Cyprus is celebrated. Ultimately, I want our endeavours to continue prospering and inspiring future generations, while maintaining their prestigious position in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Jason Perdios, CEO of Louis Hotels, in thoughtful conversation with Elena Panayides, shares his vision for the Exclusive Collection and the path of elevated hospitality ahead.

Mykonos, like a pearl in the Aegean’s deep blue sweep, has always cast an irresistible spell.
illustration LILI SEDAN words ELENA PANAYIDES
Mykonos, like a pearl in the Aegean’s deep blue sweep, has always cast an irresistible spell. Its bright shores, caressed by the wind and the ancient light, call out across time, drawing all who seek a blend of wild beauty and cultivated elegance. To arrive here is to step into a world both ancient and timeless, where myths and muses linger in the breeze, and pleasure awaits.
The island’s story is one of transformation, its allure growing steadily over the decades. In the early 1920s, Mykonos was a mere whisper among archaeologists and lovers of the ancient world. A gateway to the neighbouring sacred island of Delos, steeped in the mystical aura of gods. By the 1960s, that whisper had become a clarion call. It was the arrival of Aristotle Onassis, with Jackie Kennedy, that truly heralded Mykonos as a playground for the glamorous and worldly. Alongside them came the glittering elite; Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, so many names that shimmered.
The first tourists, mainly Athenian vacationers, found themselves seduced by Mykonos' rawness and its welcoming spirit. Soon, artists, writers, and free spirits followed, mingling with magnates and global celebrities. The Chora, the island’s main town, became a maze of possibilities. Its narrow streets, winding under bright canopies of bougainvillea, were alive with discovery. The smell of fresh-baked bread, the laughter spilling out of open doorways, the soft chime of music drifting on the air. In those early years, Mykonos was not yet polished. The roads were rugged, the accommodations sparse, which added to its charm. The locals, in their rustic homes, opened their doors, renting rooms and sharing meals with visitors. They too were swept up in the island’s transformation, as the authentic hospitality of old Greece met the cosmopolitan desires of the new age. By the 1970s, the island had established itself as a glittering enclave for the bold and the beautiful. It was here, at ‘Pierro’s’ bar, that Mykonos began to cement its reputation as not just a refuge for the glamorous, but as a sanctuary for those seeking a different kind of freedom. ‘Pierro’s’, opened by an
Italian-American painter and a local fisherman, became a haven for the gay community, drawing in the world. The parties were legendary, wild affairs that stretched into the dawn. Boundaries dissolved and the island’s intoxicating mix of hedonism and beauty was at its most electric. Mykonos became a place where one could live unrestrained. An island offering liberation, underpinned by the joy of life experienced on a Greek island.
Amidst the revelry, Mykonos retained its deeper essence. Beyond the glitz of the port and the high-wattage glamour of its bars and beaches, there are quieter moments to be found. The island’s windmills stand guard over the town, their silhouettes etched against the sky like sentinels from another age. Just a short boat ride away, the ruins of Delos are silent remnants of temples and marketplaces that once thrummed with life. It is as though the gods themselves still watch over this place, lending it a sense of both grandeur and intimacy.
The beauty of Mykonos unfolds like a dream, each layer revealing another myth. It is an island where pleasure and reflection co-exist in a delicate balance. Nights burn with the thrill of indulgence, and days are radiant. But amidst this vibrant energy, there is a sanctuary for the soul. One can lose themselves in the serenity of its narrow streets, winding like a quiet labyrinth that invites introspection.
The light here, so often chased by painters, coveted by photographers, holds a spiritual power. It is not just illumination; it is a transformation. Every whitewashed wall becomes a canvas, every burst of blue, a revelation. The sea, shimmering in infinite shades, reflects this ethereal glow, reminding one that beauty is not only seen but felt within.
Mykonos has since developed, but it has never lost its essential charm. It is a destination where superyachts moor alongside the fishing boats, and yet, it remains unmistakably itself. The allure of Mykonos lies not merely in its reputation, but in the way it awakens the soul. Here, one does not just exist; one lives.
It was the arrival of Aristotle Onassis, with Jackie that truly heralded Mykonos as a playground for the glamorous and worldly. Alongside them came the glittering elite; Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, so many names that shimmered.
CHOREOGRAPHER

Crete is renowned for its untamed, elemental power, its rugged and mountainous terrain, its agricultural wealth, and its mythical and historical significance.
Cretans are known for their indomitable spirit, passions, vendettas, resistance to oppression, and their struggles for freedom. Hard-fighting, tempestuous, and free-spirited, nowhere is honour, or 'Filotimo', more exalted than in Crete. Three different artists, all hailing from Crete, each in their own genre, have exported this impassioned 'islandness' and made it bloom internationally.
Nikos Kazandzakis, the giant of modern Greek literature, who gave us Zorba the Greek, was born in 1883 in Heraklion, Crete. His writing draws its power from the land he grew up in. Off on the edge, island isolation creates a resilient and self-reliant people bound by their own traditions and laws; whose fates are intertwined with the inexorable forces of nature. Kazantzakis’ love of the landscape, his closeness to trees and animals, and his fascination with the wildly ardent, often violent Cretan villagers inspired much of his work. His deeply philosophical exploration of the primal passions and naked emotions of the complex human soul rooted in the soil is a recurring theme throughout his work.
This terrestrial bond is also present when you hear Antonis Xylouris (Psarantonis) playing the Cretan lyre. Born in 1937 in the mountainous village of Anogeia, the self-
taught Psarantonis has the dynamic of a rhapsodist and is considered a daring distillation of primordial and contemporary musical storytelling. Within his music breathes the ancient mythology and entire landscape of Crete. His brusque bowing will take you up the steepest peaks of Crete and in the lyrical whisper of his lyre lies the sweetness of chirping birds and the whispers of gurgling springs and his staccato will take you to the edge of the cliff above the crashing and raging seas. Bucolic and pastoral, yet aggressively forceful, if you listen deep into the layers of music you’ll catch the archetypal and pagan song of Pan, the wind-battered trees, and the primal howl of earth.
Elemental impetus and raw, spirited anima flows through the works of Andonis Foniadakis, one of the most important choreographers of the moment. Born in Ierapetra, Crete, Foniadakis studied dance at the local dance school. He has since collaborated with titans such as the Martha Graham Dance Company and The Bejart Ballet Lausanne. On stage you see a gale of movement, myths, and mythical creatures. Dancers moving like the wind, flowing like water, arms and ligaments quivering like flames and you feel an elemental, and nature-bound life force empowering his choreography. Behind his dancers’ dynamic movements and unexpected changes of gravity, direction, and tempo you encounter the ordered chaos of Greekness and in works like Salema you catch a glimpse of the frenetic, indigenous Pentozali dance and feel the savagery and Fauvism of Crete transmuted into movement.
crafted by Rebecca Cameron blend ancient and modern aesthetics.
The gardens of Mykonos Theoxenia, under Rebecca Cameron’s delicate touch, are a dialogue between the ancient and the present, a symphony of flora where the island's past is tenderly whispered through each leaf, each bloom. Cameron's vision is one of belonging, a reawakening of the Myconian soul through the plants and trees that once clothed the island in antiquity.
At the entrance, the olive tree, venerable and revered, stands as a sentinel. Its twisted branches and silvered leaves tell of a lineage rooted in the very earth of this island, offering its fruit and shade as it has done for centuries. The elegant cypress trees, slender and tall, embrace the landscape, their forms reaching toward the sky, while the pomegranate trees, immortalised in ancient pottery, offer a silent nod to the past.
The tamarisk, fragile yet resilient, bends to the sea's salt-laden winds, its roots deep in the myth of Aphrodite, who claimed these shores as her own. This wispy shrub, planted generously throughout the grounds, mirrors the island's enduring connection to its mythology.
Summer-flowering oleanders, vibrant and enduring, paint the landscape with bursts of colour, their beauty matched only by their resistance to the destructive goats that once roamed freely. Atriplex, with its silvery sheen, stands as a quiet reminder of the Cyclades' arid beauty, a plant deeply associated with the island’s history.
And in the air, the fragrance of rosemary, lavender, thyme, and marjoram fills the senses—aromas that have wafted through Mykonos for millennia, reconnecting the past to the present. Yet, Cameron’s garden does not shy away from evolution. The pepper tree from Peru, the agave, and the prickly pear now stand as naturalised inhabitants, having claimed their place in this timeless landscape, merging seamlessly with the more recent additions, like the swaying ornamental grasses, adding movement and life to this natural sanctuary. In this garden, the centuries and eons intertwine, forming a living tapestry, rich with history, resilience, and beauty.

Capturing the essence of the island’s charm, creating an interior world that is as welcoming as it is serene. Every detail within King Jason Zante has been meticulously curated to provide guests with an authentic experience of elegance and comfort.
The resort’s interior design by Christina Lambrou of Stravos Peppas Architect & Partners draws inspiration from the island’s splendour. The lobby is a symphony of soft, neutral tones, whites, beiges, and earthy hues, complemented by touches of deep blue, reminiscent of the Ionian Sea.
In the guest rooms, the design philosophy continues to shine. Spacious and airy, each room is a reflection of the island’s tranquil beauty. The colour palette is kept minimal with crisp white linens and subtle accents of colour that evoke the surrounding landscape. The furnishings are sleek yet comfortable, offering a blend of contemporary style and classic elegance.
What truly sets King Jason Zante apart is its commitment to creating spaces that offer both comfort and a sense of place. Lambrou’s interiors, are not just about aesthetics; they are about creating a sensory experience. The hotel’s common areas, such as the restaurants and lounges, are designed to encourage relaxation and social interaction. Soft lighting, plush seating, and carefully selected artwork, contribute to an atmosphere that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
The resort’s wellness areas are another highlight of its interior world. Purai Spa by Idolo, is a haven of tranquility, featuring natural materials and soothing colours that enhance the sense of relaxation. The treatment rooms provide an escape, with soft lighting and calming decor complementing the spa’s holistic approach to the Art of Slow Living. In essence, the interior world of King Jason Zante is a testament to the hotel’s dedication to offering an authentic experience. It is a place where guests can immerse themselves in the beauty of Zakynthos, while enjoying inventive comfort and design.
A landscape embroidered with olive groves and fragrant pine forests. Zakynthos is the third largest island of the Ionian with explosive natural beauty.
words
MELIA TATAKIS
Luxuriantly fertile. A landscape embroidered with olive groves and fragrant pine forests. Zakynthos is the third largest island of the Ionian with explosive natural beauty. There is much to praise about this Edenic isle with its lavish and abundant overgrowth and burgeoning resources. Blessed with fertile planes, rimmed with countless beaches, coves, and bays, Zakynthos, though small and intimate, boasts a bright and refreshingly adventurous aura. There’s so much to discover on this Ionian jewel, you’ll be hard-pressed to fit it all in.
"Eudaimonia," the ancient Greek concept of wellbeing, is exalted in Zante’s breathtaking natural ecosystem, marine parks, and protected wildlife. Home of the gracious Monk seal and endangered loggerhead turtle, Caretta Caretta, Zakynthos attracts a more conscious traveller, pulled in by the stunning beauty of its fragile ecosystem. Visitors have the unique opportunity to take guided boat tours and learn about the conservation efforts dedicated to preserving the natural habitat of these magnificent creatures.
A trip to Laganas or Gerakas bay to observe the nesting and hatching process and experience the excitement of watching baby turtles making their first dash to the sea, can be one of life’s more magical moments.
For those interested in local agriculture, days can be spent wine-tasting in ancient vineyards, getting roguish on the island’s renowned and indigenous Verdea wine. Going horseback riding
through a tapestry of forests, or birdwatching in the wetlands of Alykes and Keri, or snorkelling around the Blue Caves are more ways to connect to nature. Thrill-seekers will love cliff- jumping at Porto Limnionas and the water-sports at Tsilivi Bay. Foodies can embark on flavourful adventures, sampling traditional delicacies such as garlic-infused skordostoumbi and tangy ladotyri in the island’s picturesque villages.
Lovingly named the “Flower of the Levant,” by the Venetians who once ruled it, Zante has over six thousand different flower species and the forceful, grounding elements of its natural topography are omnipresent everywhere. Yet it’s the ferocious greens and dazzling blues of its panoramic coastal views that will make your Instagram feed go viral. Add to that the sheer white cliffs plummeting to a procession of sandy bays, one more beautiful than the next, and it’s no surprise that this popular destination is experiencing the awakening it deserves.
While still remaining a magnet for sun and beach exploration, with a variety of amazing sandy beaches to sink your toes into, translucent turquoise waters, and a thriving nightlife, Zakynthos is also a charming blend of old-world charm and modern energy. Its Byzantine churches, Venetian fortresses, museums, prehistoric ruins and enchanting port town are your personal time machine taking you on a whirlwind journey through its beguiling and richly fascinating and storied past. This is the Ionian island you simply can’t miss out on!
Sitting down with Elena Panayides, you sense the breadth of her experience, her joie de vivre and the dynamism she embodies.
Elena, with over three decades experience in journalism, media, diplomacy and business, your career has taken you around the globe and led you to Greece, as the ambassador and curator of Louis Hotels' Exclusive Collection. How difficult was |the transition into hospitality?
I’ve always been passionate about storytelling, and hospitality is, at its core, about sharing stories and experiences. Whether I was reporting from the White House or promoting award winning TV series and films on a global stage, the aim was to craft a narrative that resonates deeply. My years directing marketing, PR and digital for 21st Century Fox and National Geographic in Europe and Africa, taught me how to capture authentic stories, and then share them with the world.
When I later formed my own consultancy Elpis Global in London, due to my obsession with travel, I gravitated to hospitality brands: the Mandrake Hotel - London, the Place resort - Bali, Soho House, and later Mona and Shila - Athens. It felt like a natural fit, as they weren’t just a place to lay your head, they were microcosms offering immersive experiences. My media background became invaluable in developing marketing, event and PR strategies that highlighted each property’s essence. It was a seamless transition because both industries focus on creating meaningful, authentic connections with an audience.
How do your professional experiences in New York, Washington, London, Athens, Cyprus, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and on the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Gulf Seas shape your approach to hospitality?
A continual wanderlust, open perspective and genuine curiosity and appreciation for all cultures. Working internationally and at sea both on cruise liners and megayachts, I’ve learnt how different cultures express their desires and expectations. My decade as a diplomat also morphed me into a chameleon, which allows me to adapt to a plethora of perspectives. For the Exclusive Collection , I bring that global perspective to ensure each property offers more than just a beautiful stay. Mykonos Theoxenia, Once in Mykonos, Asterion Suites and Spa in Crete and the latest opening King Jason Zante , provide experiences and wellbeing
offerings deeply rooted in the local culture and traditions of Greece. It is what we call “Greeknessence. ”
Working with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie and Jane Goodall, how did these collaborations influence your work in hospitality?
Working with such globally relevant and impactful personalities, that care deeply about our world, taught me the importance of vision and authenticity. They shared that you must ensure that every action and interaction must reflect your deep-seated values and philosophy.
In hospitality, it’s no different. At Louis Hotels, I work closely with the talented Executive team in Cyprus to develop marketing, PR and sales strategies and curate guest experiences. The goal is to make every stay feel like an event; unique, memorable, deeply connected and reciprocal with the island’s culture.
How does your Cypriot heritage influence your collaboration with Louis Hotels?
Louis Hotels, and their dedicated teams in Cyprus, are trailblazers in Mediterranean hospitality; this is deeply meaningful for me. For generations, they have been instrumental in Cyprus’ development, shaping the island’s tourism industry and its global image as a destination.
From my parents who dedicated their lives to promoting Cyprus around the world and from having completed high school in Cyprus, I developed a profound respect, appreciation and passion for its natural beauty, heartfelt hospitality and historically vital culture. Louis Hotels has captured this national identity and expanded it to the Greek islands with its Exclusive Collection. I have the opportunity each day to blend my Cypriot roots with my global experience, crafting something that feels both personal and universal. It’s a fulfilling experience to have the ability to contribute to such a respected legacy.

A deconstructed Greek Story, the always happening Parthenis. Clothes designed for creatives and world travellers.
words by MELIA TATAKIS
What are your most recent projects, collections, or ventures related to your art?
Summer 2025 is my next project. It has to do with metamorphosis, organic metamorphosis is the inspiration, like the chrysalis becoming a butterfly. The winter collection for 2024-25,soon to be in stores, is one of my favourites with architectural shapes, sombre colours as well as winter white and, as always, these classic timeless pieces that you want to keep forever.
How does “Greekness” infuse your work?
It does but in the Doric sense of Greekness not the folklore (Balkan) Greece. I would prefer to wear an original folklore costume, not the reinvention of folklore because that is like a carnival costume. Greekness is also contrast, light and dark. The concept of Parthenis, as I inherited it, was inspired by “Greekness” in this sense. Cycladic light and contrast. Black and white. Tragedy and comedy—the contrast of extremes.
To what extent are you inspired by it?
Completely, but parallel to that I don’t want to make ethnocentric clothes. I design clothes for travellers of the world because these are clothes that travel well, easy to care for, pack, and dress up or down. They are for creative, travelling people, loved by artists, and architects. They are not restrictive. They let you express yourself.
Let’s talk about your island.
Upon arrival in Mykonos the child within is awakened, and no matter what goes on in Mykonos it never ceases to be the centre of light. It is an island that gets its energy from Delos, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. Delos is my annual pilgrimage. Mykonos gets all its original spirit from Delos, this centre of light. The locals can also be very daring, as is the case with most islands. They are like pirates. It is an island that isn’t just attractive in summer. We unfortunately do not have those winter images. It is like a show that opens in March and ends in November. The rest of the time it is forgotten. That is a bit sad. Because it is very beautiful off season. This island is always happening, alive, a little like NY. It has a constant vibe, but you don’t have the fear of missing out because wherever you are you can always have a good time. You don’t need a program in Mykonos. You can go with a beach bag to the beach and stay until midnight.
It had a great spontaneity, and that, over the years, has changed and is upsetting, but if you try to rekindle it you easily can.
Why should someone visit?
Because there’s always something happening.
What are the places that most resonate with you?
Delos. Agios Sostis Beach. The outdoor cinema, Cine Manto. The Faros Lighthouse area, it shows a different side of Mykonos. The view from my window, where I watch the sunset and never want to miss it. The view from my shop, which is now a bar, Parthenis Café, where people come for cocktails and the sunset.
Name your top secret spots.
Kyklamino for sweets. Marissa in Fokos, after a swim. Pizza from Casa di Giorgio. Handmade bags and crochet beanies by Eleni Kontiza, available at her Matoyianni shop, kontizart_mykonos.
What is your most popular design with the island crowd?
Pareos, towels, and, of course, the cotton tank dresses. White is always popular, but this year, we introduced cobalt blue, very Cycladic, and a bright purple, reminiscent of bougainvillaea. People love pieces that evoke memories or associations with other things.
What activities, places, people, fragrances, sights, and smells around your island carry the most authentic essence of Greece?
Sto Giallo (portside) at the open market where they sell fresh fish, it’s an old marble place that sells fish and has an open farmer’s market that gives you a glimpse into local island life.
The Amaranth flower, collected in spring to make wreaths, is the fragrance I have of Mykonos.
The cured Louza, an artisanal dried meat, the Xinotiro and Kopanisti with the rusks…Things that don’t end. You can experience this side of Mykonos much more during spring and autumn.
In the summer if you wake up early you will also find it. At 8 am you may see the last of the clubbers reeling home, but you’ll also see the first fishermen with their fish.

A jewel is a jewel is a jewel. "It has something to say. It tells a story. It has a soul. And the story is understood all over the world." Ilias Lalaounis
words by
MELIA TATAKIS
The Lalaounis boutique was the first elite jewellery store to open on the Cycladic island of Mykonos in 1968. The sight of Jackie Kennedy on the arm of shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis cast an international spotlight on the pristine and still undiscovered Greek island with its shimmering beaches and architecturally wondrous whitewashed town. The vision of Jackie in 1969 wearing Lalaounis’ Apollo earrings, (image on page 16) specifically commissioned for her 40th birthday and in commemoration of moon landing, cemented the brand’s universal appeal and launched its popularity among royals and stars. Over the next seventy years, the Lalaounis Design house would mesmerise the world with its trademark craftsmanship and massively creative body of work, encompassing a multitude of collections and thousands of designs.
Ilias Lalaounis was born in 1920, the third generation of a family of goldsmiths and watchmakers. After studying economics and law at the University of Athens, in 1941 and in the midst of the desperation of World War 11, he took over the family firm and apprenticed as a master craftsman. Riding the crest of the Post War years, as Greece slowly normalised during the 50s, and the world saw a renewed interest in spending, Ilias Lalaounis’ refined his creative vision and with it revitalised the country’s jewellery industry.
Fuelled by his passion for history, and seduced by the artefacts, relics, and museum treasures of antiquity, he was moved to breathe new life into these cultural Greek heirlooms. His calling was gold, “The most human material,” and with it he established a new era of Greek jewellery and gave the world Greek Gold in all its resplendent glory; jewels that were steeped in history and were as ageless as they were contemporary in design.
Inspired by the Minoan Civilization, his 1970 collection of giant jewels, Blow Up, presented in Paris, was a worldwide sensation and established his name among heavyweights, Van Cleef and Arpels, Bulgari, and Harry Winston. In order to recreate these Hellenic-themed jewels Lalaounis had to first revive the age-old techniques of Ancient Greece. Along with the painstakingly labo-
rious hand-hammering of 22 carat gold, he reapplied: granulation, dating back to the 3rd millennium BC, filigree, a four thousand year intricate ornamentation as well as the elaborate hand-weaving expertise for the intricate chains and knot motifs of the Hellenistic period. Skills that were key to developing his distinctive look.
This superlative hand-manipulation of gold and polished craftsmanship became the house’s signature style and its enduring strength. Today, the family-owned brand carries on its legacy with the same sheen and lustre through the creative and enterprising spirit of Lalaounis’ four daughters. Aikaterini, Dimitra, Maria, and Ioanna.
In Mykonos, the Lalaounis boutique continues to contribute to the international popularity of Greekness and remains itself an embedded and vibrant jewel in the island’s rich historical tapestry which celebrates seven millennia of jewellery-making on its shores, from the first Neolithic pebble and shell findings in Ftelia, to the gold and ivory pieces of the later Byzantine era, on Delos.
“Our company motto is: Every piece of jewellery has a story to tell; it is jewellery with a soul. Each one of our creations speaks to our clients differently and individually. Our symbolic pieces are always greatly sought after, such as the ones with the Heracles Knot motif. A tribute to eternal love and friendship.” Maria Lalaounis, co-chief executive and design director.
“Mykonos is a place that has given us a lot, most of all inspiration, through the traditions of Cycladic art and simplicity of its architecture.” Aikaterini Lalaounis.

Food, the planetary pleasure that unites us regardless of creed, culture, persuasion, or passion.
There is a reason why food and mood go together and no surprise why JeanJacques Rousseau believed that one of the cornerstones of happiness involved a good cook. Food. Food. Food. The planetary pleasure that unites us regardless of creed, culture, persuasion, or passion. Who declines an invitation to share a meal and break fluffy hunks of bread while getting swept away in rich and brooding flavours; transported to heavenly heights by the aromas of ambrosial spices? Eating together is the most unifying communion people can share. It brings peace and compassion to the table and feeding someone has always been a consummate act of love.
Like art, literature, technology and medicine, food is an ever-evolving pillar of history and progress, morphing, transforming, and transmuting to tell the next chapter of humanity’s ongoing story. Food is a dialogue with the earth, with nature, with the soil where we grow our produce; the animals we rear, the seas and seasons, the rain that nurtures the seeds that, in turn, nurture us. Food is the lifeforce. And eating wisely is a choice we must make daily in respect of our bodies.
Building relationships and eating well are integral parts of who we are as a hotel brand. Feeding our guests is a way of honouring our Greek traditions and heritage. The open door, welcoming table, sliding chair, and extra plate for that impromptu guest is embedded deep in our DNA. It’s over a meal and through the senses that we set aside our differences, learning the language of strangers and sharing our own with them.
For our Exclusive Collection of hotels, and across all our venues, food is our most magnificent form of expression, and our chefs are the chosen story tellers.
Helmed by Louis Group Executive Chef, Kyriakos Sotiriou, our delicious and creative menus and immaculately plated dishes ebb and flow with the season’s freshest ingredients and spotlight many of the Mediterranean’s most loved recipes. Product-led, artisanal, locally sourced, from the bubbling cheeses and silky dips of our small starting plates to the still sputtering pescatarian choices of the day and on to the fall-off-the-bone meats of our heavy-hitting mains, every dish is curated, caramelised, smoked, flambéed to tantalise your taste buds beyond expectation and tastefully reflect our culinary ethos.
Haroub will transport you to the enchanting Levantine side of life, where vibrant flavours and rich culinary traditions come together to create a unique dining experience.

At
Sailing to Delos from the iconic Mykonos Theoxenia.
Real hospitality is found in everyday life. It runs through the Hellenic veins.
Greek hospitality has always been with us. It never went anywhere, like the Acropolis. While other parts of the world speeded up and became more polished, Greece calmly sat on the edge of Europe, quietly modernising, and elevating its hospitality services while still remaining true to its authentic self.
The sudden buzz around Mediterranean lifestyle and Greek hospitality has more to do with the realisation that Greeks genuinely want to take care of you and see you have a good time. You are never a transient visitor passing through their country, but always a special guest, a friend. To make sure your bed is comfortable, your stomach is bursting, and your glass is overflowing is a proudly patriotic quest handed down from generation to generation.
The Greek soul has gone through civil unrest, occupation, and economic rollercoasters resulting in a resilient, kind, and live-in-the-moment unpretentious culture. There is a subtle efficiency to the haphazardness you may not notice at first. Taking a ferry to an island and watching the trucks, motorcycles and people spill out in record time is a visual feast. Look further and you’ll notice a member of the crew gently holding an old lady by
the hand across the gangplank, talking about relatives they have in common, no doubt concluding they are cousins. It is this profound, connected, and meaningfully sincere way of living that makes hospitality so natural to the Greeks.
For those of us who come from more rigid worlds, where the check is slapped down on the table as we swallow our last mouthful, Greeks at the end of a meal are bringing you melon and more wine. Real hospitality is found in everyday life. It runs through the Hellenic veins. There is no other country where you can have a conversation with a complete stranger about three things at the same time, be fed and not be allowed to pay the bill. Hospitality is the ten ‘kalimeras’ you hear as you walk down the street, the taxi driver who insists on carrying your bags into your hotel. It’s the complimentary loukoumi that comes served with your coffee. It’s the passion mixed with pride but deliciously free of arrogance and steeped with that darkly tragic but funny Greek humour all in one. It is the firm belief that everyone must be honoured and welcomed.
Between tradition, respect for church, family, and culture, visitors to Greece are guaranteed anything from a mystical chat with a wily monk to being fed like kings
at the home of a local, before dancing till dawn at a panigiri in a village up a mountain learning the steps as they go.
So, what is Greek hospitality as we define it and express it throughout our Exclusive Hotel Collection?
Three top destinations were chosen for their balance of incredible beaches, amazing natural landscapes, hedonistic lifestyle, and profoundly historical clout. Mykonos, Zakynthos, Crete, each representing an authentic component of the Greek spirit. Mykonos for ‘κέφι’ (joyfulness.) Zakynthos for ‘ευημερία’ (wellbeing) and Crete, for ‘φιλότιμο’ (love of honour.)
Against this backdrop, our four exclusive hotels have been designed with your ultimate wellbeing in mind to reflect the ethos, values, and philosophy of our brand. Impeccable accommodations, restaurants at the forefront of gastronomy, open kitchens, communal tables, dedicated spas and healing therapies,
breathtaking views, and meticulously landscaped domains, along with a discreetly welcoming staff and five-star inclusive service transforms your vacation into an extraordinary, soul-fulfilling experience. Extending through all our services is an artery of goodwill and the celebration of those pure and unhurried moments that characterise Greek life.
It is the kindness, traditions, freedoms, and generosity found in abundance on this side of the planet that gives our visitors the chance to reconnect to how life should be and how it used to be; intimate, humane, warm, and heartfelt. It’s not so much the revival of Greek hospitality but rather the remembrance of what we have lost in our daily lives that we seek to recover by travelling to Greece and why Greece is experiencing a renewed wave of popularity.

Hiding in plain sight, it’s quite a contrast! Our location is enviably everything!
This vintage and culturally preserved hotel from internationally celebrated modernist architect, Aris Konstantinidis, has undergone a series of transformations and revivals that have kept it con-
temporary and always at the forefront of the five-star hotel scene. The latest renovation from VOIS architects completed in 2023 has re-introduced an elegant, meta-Cycladic style that reinvents simple island glamour, heritage, and tradition Pavestones, wooden furniture, woven linens spill a tactile and naturally organic feel throughout all the areas of the hotel. Bold Aegean ultramarines and saturated cobalts contrast with terracotta reds accentuating the classic modernist architecture and paying homage to the ancient Greek temples of the Aegean, once vividly painted. The curve of an urn, the tightly fluted pleats of the curtains, the soft organic fabrics are all echoes and reverberations of a pervading Grecian spirit that remains forever perennial, fresh, and fashionable.
Undergoing a new revival every couple of years, Greek Style, with its classically rooted ethos and ideals, has a way of staying relevant throughout time. This authentic simplicity has always something meaningful to convey.
Rife with low-key glamour, the sleek interiors, generous accommodations, expansive gardens, alive with movement and colour, breezy terraces, and private pools are reflective of the absolute joy, “kefi” at the heart of Myconian life.

At the heart of Asterion lies its ‘Aegeo Spa’, where ancient Cretan wellness practices are revived with a modern twist. A deep massage, using Cretan olive oil blended with raki and orange extracts, rejuvenates the body and mind with time-honoured techniques. Specialised treatments for a radiant glow pre-
pare the skin for a long-lasting tan, harnessing the healing powers of olive oil, wild herbs, and aloe vera—bringing the island’s natural bounty to life.
Asterion Suites and Spa is more than a destination; it is a poetic tribute to the Cretan soul. Here, you are invited to connect with the timeless beauty and enduring spirit of Crete, where freedom, as Kazantzakis wrote, is “not just a state of being, but a way of life.”
With a beach backdrop, Asterion’s rooms and suites embody contemporary elegance, offering serene havens.

Spa's have been around since antiquity the Greeks, have enjoyed them from the sixth century BC. Today, wellness has transcended mere indulgence, becoming an integral part of the hospitality experience.
Words MEIA TATAKIS
For optimum physical performance the Greeks took a ritualised and holistic approach to their wellbeing.
Anyone reading Homer, Plato, Thucydides will find countless texts peppered with the ancient wellbeing practices of heroic soldiers and athletes. It would seem that the Ancient Greeks were forever anointing themselves with sacred oils and alchemizing nature for their health needs. Theirs is a long history of therapeutic arts. Poultices were made from hyssop and St John’s wort, honey and beeswax went into balms and unguents to feed the skin and keep it supple and youthful.
Herbs and roots formed the basis of medicine. Root cutters and herbalists were greatly revered. Internal health, even hunger was regulated with plant-based infusions. Elixirs, extractions, aphrodisiacs and aromatic essential oils enjoyed a healthy trade. Wild Oregano, laurel, sage, mallow and mandrake were some of the first plantbased medicinal ingredients used for a wide range of purposes from maintaining good digestion, inducing fertility to cleaning battle wounds. Sophisticated massage techniques were also developed in preparation for their religious festivities, great Olympic sporting events and their even greater wars.
As spoken by the father of medicine, Hippocrates, “The way to health is an aromatic bath and a scented massage every day.”
For optimum physical performance the Greeks took a ritualized and holistic approach to their wellbeing. “A sound mind in a sound body,” famously quoted by pre-Socratic philosopher Thales, is still part of our daily phraseology. From the gentle, Aristotelian-prescribed daily walk to focus the mind, to the adulated and more athletically vigorous activities at the Hippodrome, physical exercise was encouraged. Maintaining a healthy diet was also the third link in the wellness culture of Ancient Greece; physical fitness, mental equilibrium, and the ability to enjoy life accumulated into happiness, the ingedient of a good life.
It’s pure magic to live in a world where some of these ancient healing traditions and wellness practices are still ongoing today. That our ancient ancestors culled the same herbs and natural ingredients still used in our feel-good skin and healthcare routines today, under the same boiste-
rous Mediterranean sunlight is exhilarating. The need to decompress and blank-space our minds is as important to modern survival as being fit on the battlefield was in antiquity. Taking a vacation can mean unplugging from this fast-paced world and its deluge of information that comes at us a mile a nanosecond; or how else to win the day?
Throughout our Exclusive Collection properties we have intensified our health and wellbeing performance with next-level spas and services that will help you maximize your relaxation time. From the latest plant-based beauty products to tailored massage therapies, to customized rejuvenation techniques and all manner of treatment rooms: saunas, gyms, steam rooms and wet areas, we have meticulously crafted peaceful relaxation bubbles to take you on the most soul-soothing and satisfying adventures.
From our So Spa! concept shared by both the Mykonos Theoxenia and Once in Mykonos, to Purai by Idolo, our sanctuary of tranquility at the King Jason Zante, and within the customized spaces of Orion Spa at the Asterion, in Crete, our clued up therapists, instructors and healers, like true
agents of joy, will make you revel in being alive and leave you feeling brighter, lighter and more neurologically at peace than when you first arrived.
Choose between an emotional detox body scrub wafting in clouds of lavender-scented vapors, or a full-body serene or uplifting massage. Salute the sun. Practice mindfulness with one of our many outdoor Yoga classes. Discover how the fierce warrior pose in front of a sweeping sea view can be even more fierce. Want to keep it simple? Then opt for a muscle-crushing work out at the gym. And if the mood strikes for something more extravagant? Heal with binaural beats, infrared therapies, and resonating sound sessions, or enjoy being cocooned and enveloped in a seaweed wrap, or simply take a long frolic in one of our many pools.
To cold plunge, float, or steam? That is the question. To rev up or relax? The answer is always a visit to the spa and break away from the world for that extra ‘me’ time. To shower yourself with selflove is not an indulgence but a necessity so shamelessly add a guilt-free spa morning to your self-care rituals. To sweat out toxins with a sauna, massage or rejuve-
nate the skin with a vitamin cocktail facial? We use the most advanced boundary-pushing products and choose partnerships with companies such as NaturaBisse, Collector, and Voya that select sustainable, hand-harvested ingredients. From rich-in-minerals and antioxidants seaweeds, culled on the wild coasts of Ireland, to delicate Crocus flowers laboriously hand-picked in the north of Greece, our meticulous choices, research, and responsibility have created a dynamic compilation of renewal-focused experiences that will put you back together and re-awaken the god and goddess within.
