Louise Lescure

ARCHITECT DE HMONP - ACOUSTICIAN

30 years old

French - Native English - Fluid

Spanish - Common

If I pay particular attention to acoustics it is because this science meets my two main interests, musical composition and architectural design. It allows me to consider architectural details and quality from new perspectives, up to the simulation of 3D sounds within virtual environments.

Project|How to preserve the creative essence of an experimental settlement facing its rehabilitation ? Considering the cultural history of the site and its current political issues, the project’s aim is to protect the alternative settlement of the Wagenhallen. The site has to evolve, and this must be done along with a search for balance between experimentation and rationality. It is designed as an open and mobile urbanism evolving around a fixed structure which is able to manage the main infrastructures to handle sustainability, economy and functionality. The project’s aesthetics of contrast, in between a light metallic architecture of assemblage (mobility) and a massive concrete architecture that evokes stability, accentuates the complementarity of these two structures (static and mobile).

LIVING IN PASAIA

6th semester project

Pasaia, Spain | 2015

Teachers | Nathalie Franck, Yves Ballot

Project|The master plan reveals a major pedestrian axis that links the main road with the harbor walks dividing the plot in two parts. The built area concentrates on the north part creating an urban facade on the avenue, while south a park keeps the noisy sheds away from the project. I worked specifically on collective housings offering an individual planted patio for each flat. The dwellings are wide open on this intimate and protected space while the outside connection is filtered by a wooden trellis, following an east/west orientation. This conception brings an important thickness to the building, offering an enjoyable depth.

MEDIEVAL CHANTS IN FONTEVRAUD ABBEY

Fontevraud, France | 2021 Masters project

Research director | Jean-Dominique Polack

Project |Room impulse responses measurements were made in the abbey to catch its acoustical print. Analysis were made through many objective metrics such as RT (Reverberation Time), G (strength), LF (lateral fraction), C (Clarity), EDT (Early Decay Time), ... allowing music compositors to rely to the acoustical properties of such an edifice for their further medieval music performances.

VIRTUAL REALITY FOR CONCERT HALL ACOUSTICS

LAM, Sorbonne Universités , France| 2022 Masters research project

Research director | Brian Katz

Publication |https://issuu.com/lescure-louise/ docs/stage_blooming-2

Project |Through augmented virtual reality, we studied the acoustics of two different concert halls in order to investigate how the spatial components could influence the dynamics of the music played on stage. We designed a perceptual experiment with MAX MSP auralizing sounds excerpts with high quality ambisonics (4th order) from two different room sound prints. Once auralized, the sounds were played with an audio rendering system of 32 speakers into an anechoic room to reproduce the sound field of the studied concert halls artificially in a controlled envrionnement. In that way, only the room effect can be changed while the musical content stays exactly the same to allow room effect comparison.

A CONSTANT MOTION OFFICE

Kunstverein Wagenhallen, Germany | 2016 Temporary settlement

Studio | Umschichten Studio

Project | The studio settled in an old hangar at the heart of urban planning projects. The city had just bought the land so all the resident artists had to leave. However, public authorities allow them to settle temporarily on the vacant lot in front of the hangar. They experimented the construction of an ephemeral city, a space in constant motion fruit of a participative urban renewal, in which I had the opportunity to participate throughout my stay. I particularly participated in the ongoing process of deconstruction and reconstruction of the studio from inside to outside the hangar keeping the same materials. The name of the studio «Umschichten», that could be translated by «reconfiguration», evokes a constantly moving architecture. They consider architecture as a fluid process in constant motion and use flexible and reversible designs as tools to experiment in the laboratory that the city represents. The endless transformation of their office served as a case study, combining pragmatism and theory.

PERFORMEUM

Wiener Festwochen, Vienna, Austria | 2017 Scenogaphy

Studio | Umschichten Studio

Project |During the Wiener Festwochen, the Vienna’s annual theatre festival, the studio arranged an old beer factory to host several artistic performances (installations, theatre, concerts, queer parades, ...). After a minimal design process, we spent 15 days on site building the scenography with « pre-cycled » aluminium C-profiles (we used them before giving them back so they can be used for further constructions) but also with the materials we found directly there. We precised the design by building, allowing us to adapt to the context (the site and the spaces available, but also the people working there setteling the space for the event such as electricians, sound ingeneers, artists, the plasticity of the material itself)
