More than 400 fans scattered around the 5,000-seat Segra Field on Aug. 21 to watch Loudoun United fall to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. It was the first home match of the season and the first since October 2019.

United Fans Return to Segra Field For the first time in 10 months, players—and fans—returned to Segra Field near Leesburg last week for Loudoun United FC’s home opener. The Aug. 19 match against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC was played in front of an announced crowd of 452. The team is planning to allow up to 1,000 fans in the stadium for matches. That is 20

percent of stadium capacity. Under the announced rules, fans are required to wear face coverings and maintain safe physical distances. Cashless transactions are encouraged. The home-field advantage last week failed to pay dividends against the Riverhounds, which walked away with a 2-0 victory. And on Sunday, United squandered a rare 2-0 lead at the Hartford Athletic’s Dillion Sta-

dium to settle for a 2-2 draw. Loudoun, 1-4-2, returns home for its second match at Segra Field on Saturday night, taking on the New York Red Bulls II riding a four-game losing streak. United is in fourth place in the USL Championship’s Group F, one point behind third place New York and 11 behind leader Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. n

Loudoun County Registrar Judy Brown will brief the Board of Supervisors on voting this November amid public health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic and new ways to cast ballots. County Chair Phyllis J. Randall (D-At Large) said she has been inundated with questions about voting, and asked Brown to give the board a full report. They will get that report at their first meeting back from their August recess, Sept. 1. “It is my goal that every Loudoun voter is assured that their vote will be counted,” Randall said. Counting every vote, after all, is Brown’s job. So far, unless the General Assembly approves new ways to receive ballots, such as ballot drop-boxes, all the voting methods available to Loudouners have been done before. The main difference this year: because of the pandemic, all voters are eligible to vote absentee. And despite theories floated by some politicians, there is little evidence that the U.S. has a problem with voter fraud. In fact, this VOTING continues on page 15
