What causes Mercedes to make noise while accelerating?
When you press accelerator pedal, you found that car is making some unusual noise, then it would definitely make you feel strange. You may feel as if there is some problems happening while accelerating the car. Here are some common causes of the noises while acceleration of Mercedes.
Worn belts
Belts are made to run on pulleys. In vehicles, belts are used in operating various systems. When the belts get worn off due to aging, then it begins to run roughly. The running of the worn belts become worse when the car accelerates so a squeaking sound is produced.
Leaking exhaust system
The whole exhaust systems has many components like catalytic converter, downpipe, manifolds, resonator, muffler, etc. If any of these components develop cracks or some openings, then they would leak harmful exhaust gasses and produce strange sounds. These strange sounds are the sounds from the engine which are canceled by the exhaust system components. But if these components become damaged, then these noises come out. Rumbling sounds are produced if the exhaust leaks. When the gas pedal is pressed, then the engine works harder and releases loud rumbling sounds.
Wearing of drive train components
Wearing of drive train components like transmission axles, differentials and transfer case begin to wear with time and produce noise. When these parts wear, they come in contact with other parts in a wrong way. So when a drive train runs, these parts move and make noises which is loud. When the car is accelerated by pressing the gas pedal, these components operate faster and the noise produced from them becomes louder and more noticeable.
Worn valves in cylinder
The cylinder valves allow the intake of air and fuel into the combustion chamber and removes the exhaust once the combustion process is fully completed. These valves may wear sometimes and produce a clicking noise when the move to open and close the cylinder. When the car is accelerated, the valves open and close rapidly and produce a rapid clicking which is more noticeable.
Worn pistons
Pistons can wear due to aging or lack of lubrication. When the pistons wear, they produce a knocking sound while moving up and down to rotate the shafts. The knocking noise becomes more vigorous when the car is accelerated or made to idle.
Worn bearings
Most of the rotating components in machines use bearings to reduce friction and last for years without wearing. So the camshaft and the crankshaft in the engine also use bearings. These bearings can wear, get damaged and then fail after completing millions of revolutions. When these bearings wear, they make ticking sounds. When the car is accelerated, the ticking and the screeching sound from the bearings become more rapid and louder.
What to do?
Here are various repairs if noises come while accelerating-
The belts are to be checked. If the belt is worn, then you have to change it. A new belt is installed in its place and tension is applied correctly
If there is leakage from exhaust, then you have to replace the damaged part which causes leakage.
If there is faults in the drive train parts and that of engine, then the replacement may be the only option. If the component is very costly, then you can install some used components available in the auto repair shops.
