As I begin this message, I’d like to take a moment to recognise and celebrate someone who has dedicated over 30 years to ensuring that students make it to school - our wonderful Attendance Officer, Mrs. Bradley. For three decades, Mrs. Bradley has been a steadfast presence, always willing to go the extra mile (sometimes quite literally!) to support students in getting to school. Whether through a firm but fair conversation or a reassuring word, she has been the ‘parent figure’ that many have needed, always balancing tough messages with genuine care and understanding.
Mrs. Bradley’s commitment to attendance has had a lasting impact on so many young lives, and she will be greatly missed. However, she leaves us in safe hands, passing the baton to Miss Budd, a familiar face who will continue to uphold the same dedication and support for our students.
As we bid farewell to Mrs. Bradley, we wish her a retirement filled with relaxation, fun, and well-deserved rest. Thank you for everything - you have truly made a difference.
Mrs Bradley has always understood just how important attendance at school is and the impact that it can have on our students’ future.
We all understand that there are challenges such as health, family responsibilities, and external circumstances which can sometimes make attending school difficult. However, regular attendance is crucial not just for academic success but for developing essential life skills such as reliability, resilience, and perseverance. These qualities are fundamental in shaping future careers and personal growth, ensuring that our students have the best possible start in life.
Missing school can create gaps in learning that are difficult to bridge, and it can also make it harder to stay motivated. But
even if you’ve had a period of absence, it is never too late to reengage with your education. We encourage all students to push forward, to attend regularly, and to seek support if needed. The most important step is to keep showing up, even when it feels difficult. Learning is a lifelong journey, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
Let’s all honour Mrs Bradley’s legacy by making every effort to be present, engaged, and committed to learning.
Launch of Our New House System
This term saw the launch of Lostock Hall Academy’s exciting new house system, with every student in school becoming part of a new community.
The house system is designed to foster a sense of belonging among students across different year groups by promoting teamwork, competition and school spirit. By aligning students with a house name and badge, each house can develop a unique identity that encourages pride and collaboration.
Our house names are inspired by six local rivers in Lancashire: Calder, Yarrow, Douglas, Ribble, Hodder and Wyre. Just as the rivers converge to form a greater whole, our houses will unite under the LHA banner, making our school a better version of itself with a shared goal; to strive to be the best we can be both individually and as a community.
Look out for regular updates on house competitions, and news about which house is winning the coveted house cup!

CyberFirst Mega Lancashire Cyber Event
On Thursday 6th February, 28 Year 8 and Year 9 girls got the opportunity to attend the Cyber First Girls Mega Cyber Event at Chorley Town Hall, designed to spark an interest amongst young females in pursuing STEM careers. The girls had the opportunity to engage with world-leading tech companies and inspiring females who shared their own experiences and career paths. They participated in workshops learning how to program robots to complete specific tasks such as following a specified path, writing specific AI instructions to
re-create new worlds, investigating how Virtual Reality works and programming the MicroBits to display pictures using binary. They also showed their logical thinking skills as five of our students managed to complete a puzzle set by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) - a feat even their own staff couldn’t complete! Our students were an absolute credit to themselves and the school and took lots away from the afternoon. We hope to join the event again next year!

Creative Careers Event at UCLan
Creative Y9 students were invited to attend a creative careers event at UCLan on Tuesday 21st January. Students were introduced to a panel of professionals from the acting, media and marketing world to animation and music production.
The star of the show has to be animation lecturer Sarah Ann Kennedy, also the voice of Peppa Pigs, Mrs Rabbit and we learned how her career has evolved over time.
Eleanor Ghebache explained how marketing and media play a key role in creative careers whilst DJ Jonny Jay gave us insight in how self promotion and self employment are a way of working
organically and help with networking. Actor Nathan Wood and DJ / host, Mark Walsh, gave us different insights into further education routes and how to persevere with your passion and how job satisfaction and enjoyment leads to a fulfilling career.
We hope that our students enjoyed and have the confidence and knowledge that a creative path is an exciting and fulfilling pathway.

Faith and Belief Forum
Year 10 and Year 11 students participated in a virtual assembly with members of the Faith and Belief Forum. We heard from representatives of the Jewish and Hindu faiths, who shared insights about their religions and their personal significance.
The speakers used examples from their own lives to illustrate how their faith guides and supports them, while also discussing the challenges they face, such as adhering to food laws. The audience raised thoughtful questions about the role of food, festivals, and how religion is portrayed in the media.
Mr. Doyle and Miss Manwaring were pleased to see that the students listened attentively and showed respect to the speakers.
Every Action has a Consequence
CITIZENSHIP CITIZENSHIP
On Tuesday 21st Jan 2025, Year 7-10 students had the opportunity to take part in a powerful presentation ‘Every Action has a Consequence’. This involved discussion, videos and questions around how one punch can kill, following the tragic death of Adam Rogers who died from a single punch in Blackburn town centre in 2009. Students reflected on the dangers surrounding physical violence and how a simple conflict could lead to tragic consequences. See Adam’s story here.
Holocaust Memorial Event
On Monday 27th Jan, Head student Hermani and Deputy Head students Erica & Libby attended a memorial event at Leyland Civic Centre. These students took part in a reflective service and had the opportunity to represent LHA by lighting candles and reading poems. Head students from local high schools were all in attendance and the afternoon was a lovely way to remember the tragic victims of the holocaust.

Year 7 Geography Exploring the World of Volcanoes
Year 7 have been very busy creating presentations, models, Minecraft designs, and cakes in the form of volcanoes. This is always a wonderful topic for the students, and they did not let us down with their efforts. It was clear that they had worked really hard, either individually or as part of a team. We are also thankful for the support given at home, which is lovely to hear.
Not only did the students craft these impressive projects, but they also had the daunting task of presenting them to their classmates. Congratulations to everyone for stepping out of their comfort zones and excelling! It was nearly impossible to pick out some favorites from Mr. Scarborough’s class, but I think you’ll agree that Miss Abram chose some worthy winners. The whole class will receive extra achievement points for their effort and commitment to Geography. If you don’t see your child’s work here, look out for more volcano action after the half term!

World Religion Day
Well done to all the students who joined Miss Manwaring on January 19th for World Religion Day! This global observance promotes interfaith understanding and dialogue, emphasizing the commonalities among different religions. It is a day for people of all faiths and beliefs to come together to celebrate diversity, foster peace, and promote religious tolerance.
All students who participated in this activity earned achievement points, contributing to their house totals.
Here’s Arthur, who enjoyed the word search and said it was a “fun activity to do and enjoyed the challenge.
Well done to all.
