DPS Interview Questions Plan In order for my double-page spread to be interesting and captivate audience’s attention, the questions that I ask the interviewee must be of interest to the reader and on topics that they either want to read about simply for entertainment, or to educate themselves on certain topics. From my research, 10 out of 20 people said they would buy a magazine for entertainment – from this I can establish that I need to predominantly focus on making my interview entertaining for the reader so they will read the article and not lose interest. If they were to lose interest in reading it, this would reflect poorly on my magazine’s brand name and decrease the chances of more people buying my magazine and decrease my audience share.

Also from my research, when asking my target audience what about the music artist they would most like to read about, the most popular answers were the musical artist’s general lifestyle, their journey to fame and their personal relationships.

Therefore, in order to make my double-page spread appeal to my audience I will incorporate these topics across my questions so the article is engaging and captures their interest.

So there is not large chunks of text in my magazine and on my double-page spread, which may make the page look more unappealing for my audience to read and like there is ‘too much’ information, I have decided on a Q&A type style interview, which means that readers can easily establish the questions and are not having to pick the answers out from a large body of text. This makes the reading of my magazine more easy, smooth and convenient for readers.

My interview will be with a famous indie singer/songwriter who has already made her way into the music industry, however this is her first exclusive interview with the media and my magazine, which means more people are likely to buy my magazine because they cannot find this interview anywhere else.

Questions 1. Since you hit fame, how easy has it been to carry on with all the activities you used to enjoy?

- Enables the artist to talk about their previous lifestyle before, and their previous hobbies fans may have not previously known about.

- Engages the reader as it is exclusive information they may not have previously known.

- Gives readers an insight on how fame can heavily change somebody’s life. Acts as an eye-opener and may influence their career paths or decisions they make in life.

2. When you’re not making and recording music, what are your favourite ways to relax and unwind?

- Enables the artist to talk about their lifestyle outside of music and what else other than what they are known for (music) they like to enjoy.

- Readers may be able to relate to them through this question as they may have similar lifestyle habits. This links to the Uses and Gratifications Theory and how readers can ‘identify’ with a role model that have similar values to their own.

3. Once your music was discovered on YouTube, how did it make you feel when your talent was recognised?

- This question displays vulnerability within the music artist and how, just like the reader, although they are famous feel emotion just like the readers themselves do. Once again this enables readers to relate to the artist and recognise how they do actually have similar values and lifestyles.

- This question also gives readers insight into the artist’s journey to fame, which from my research is a topic they said they would be interested in.

4. Who influenced you into wanting to make music?

- Once again this question enables readers to gain information on the artist’s journey to fame and who first made them get into creating the music that made them famous.

- The audience can gain another perspective they may not have thought about previously on how to enter the music industry, this may be relevant to their lives if they too want to enter this industry; from this question they can gain ideas on what may influence them to start making music to get in the music industry.

5. Who in your life, other than your fans, have been the biggest supporter of your music?

- This gives reader an insight into the personal relationships of the artist and those they value important in their life other than their fans.

- This is a topic readers said they would be interested in reading about, so including this question makes my article engaging and captures readers’ interest.

As the main cover line on my front page will relate to the double-page spread article, having an article that is of interest to them will increase their likelihood of purchasing my magazine.

6. What can we expect to see from you in upcoming months, any albums or tours?

- This question rounds off the interview nicely, and sparks reader hype and social interaction as to what may be possibly upcoming from the artist. People talking about the article and this question in my magazine means more people are likely to be curious into buying my magazine.

- This enables the artist to talk about any festivals/gigs upcoming that they may be attending, from my research one of the main activities my audience do in their spare time is attend festivals/gigs so this question would be of interest to my audience.
