Dear Parents and Students

Yesterday it was my privilege to attend a leadership seminar entitled “Power House of Leaders 2011” with the senior student executive leaders. The focus of the seminar was the spiritual formation of our student leaders. This unique opportunity sponsored by Catholic Education Brisbane focussed on:

 

fostering the personal and spiritual growth of student leaders; reflecting on a Catholic Christian view of leadership and how that might be applied in their roles as leaders; drawing school student leaders into the life and mission of the Catholic faith community through a vibrant, positive experience of what it can mean to be part of the local Church in the Archdiocese of Brisbane inspiring and empowering young people to live as disciples of Christ in the world today.

The two keynote speakers, Khoa Do and Robyn Moore, provided inspiration and insight. The provision of unique opportunities such as these for student leaders within our schools is a testament to the enriching value of a Catholic education. Loreto places a strong emphasis on student leadership and as I come close to the final weeks of my first term at Loreto Coorparoo, I marvel at the high levels of spiritual, intellectual and compassionate student leadership and the very generous commitment they demonstrate. They are truly a credit to the College and their families.

WELCOME BACK AND THANK YOU This week, as we commence our second term course work, we welcome back from long service leave Mr Kieran Donnelly – Deputy Principal – Religion. We also thank Mr Kevin McAlinden and Mrs Irene Valentine for their leadership during Mr Donnelly’s absence. As we farewell Ms Sally Carr and thank her for her enthusiastic contribution this past term, we send her our very best wishes as she moves to take up an appointment at Mt St Michael’s College. LENTEN REFLECTION

I commend to you the work of the Year 9 Gold Religion class who designed and constructed “Stations of the Cross” for us. These have been placed strategically throughout the College grounds enabling all members of the school community to access them. We journey together in prayer. Each station has a carefully prepared commentary alongside to aid us in prayerful contemplation. Thank you Year 9 Gold and Mrs Nielson.

Loreto College Coorparoo — Felicity LORETO AUSTRALIA Last week we welcomed to Loreto Coorparoo the Business Managers from all Loreto Schools across Australia. As part of that meeting, where the focus was on the collective improvement of educational outcomes through improved business services and functions, in the context of our Loreto ethos and mission, we were joined by Ms Susan Pascoe AM – Chair of the National Education Board (NEB) for Loreto and FCJ schools. Amongst other things we discussed important governance issues for the future of Loreto Schools in Australia including: the National Inquiry into funding of Australian Schools (the Gonski Review); and the structure and function of the NEB and its relationship to schools. It was a pleasure to welcome these visitors to the school. We continue to celebrate the many educational and spiritual benefits of being part of the wider Loreto family.

Yours sincerely

Cheryl Hamilton Principal
