Work of Christmas Begins . . . .

When the song of the angels is stilled, when the star in the sky is gone, when the kings and princes are home, when the shepherds are back with the flocks, then the work of Christmas begins: to find the lost, to heal those broken in spirit, to feed the hungry, to release the oppressed, to rebuild the nations, to bring peace among all peoples, to make a little music with the heart . . .

And to radiate the Light of Christ, every day, in every way, in all that we do and in all that we say.

Then the work of Christmas begins.

I extend to the 19 students and three staff, who this Friday will be travelling to Germany, our very best wishes for a safe and enriching journey. May the experience be filled with many blessings. May you find joy and wonder in each day and may your hearts be filled with gratitude for this amazing opportunity. I am delighted to be able to send such fine ambassadors to our sister school in Bad Homburg knowing that you will be joyful and grateful companions for your host sisters and their families.



I extend to Ms Stewart, Frau Ward and Mrs van den Brink my deep thanks and gratitude for accompanying and leading this trip.



I also offer a prayer for all families within the school who will be travelling over this holiday break. I pray too that your travels will be safe and joyful.

FAREWELL AND BEST WISHES 

I extend my best wishes to the following staff members who will be leaving us this term and wish to thank them sincerely for the wonderful work they have each done during their time with us, in leading, guiding and supporting the girls. Thank you Ms Buckley, Ms Cohen, Ms Coleman, Ms Hardie and Ms Hogan.



I offer Mrs Dowden all the very best also as she takes a year’s leave to spend time with her husband, working together in service of the Church in Western Australia. We wish them both every blessing.



We send both Ms Ryan and Mr Wright our special prayers and blessings this holiday as they are each to celebrate their upcoming weddings. We send them both our very best wishes for their special days.

I wish to extend to Ms Tania Gallen our sincere thanks for the outstanding service, leadership and dedication she has given during the last four years in her role as Year 9 Coordinator.

In this role she has both nurtured and inspired the girls, providing them with constant encouragement and guidance.

Next year she is stepping aside from this role to take up another important challenge, that of the Coordinator of Teaching and Learning Years 7 and 8. We wish her every success in this role, knowing that she will bring to it great passion, energy and enthusiasm.



For 2014, Mrs Kirsty Gore will take on the role as Year 9 Coordinator replacing Ms Gallen. I also wish her every success and thank her for accepting this opportunity to serve the students of Year 9 in this special way.



Year 11 Student Leadership Conference

CIRCULAR DRIVE WILL BE CLOSED FROM MONDAY, 25 NOVEMBER 2013 As from Monday, 25 November 2013, student drop-off will no longer be possible in the Circular Drive accessed from Cavendish Road. Access for disabled students and visitors only will be available.

The builders contracted to build the Stage 1 Project, Rohrig (Qld) Pty Ltd, will be taking possession of the site on that date and safety fences will be erected to close off the building site.

Student drop off will only be available on Cavendish Road on either side of the driveway and in Lade Street. These areas are sign posted and a 2 minute limit is in operation between 7.00am to 9.00am and 2.00pm to 4.00pm.

The commencement of construction will result in additional traffic around the College and parents are asked to observe all parking and speed restrictions.

Not continuing in 2014?

Reminder of Student Withdrawal Policy As the end of another year draws near, families are asked to notify the College, at your earliest convenience, if your daughter(s) will not be continuing at Loreto College in 2014. Families are reminded of the College’s student withdrawal policy requiring one term’s notice in writing of any intention to withdraw a student from the College. Formal notice is to be given no later than the first day of the term at the end of which it is intended that the student would leave. In default of such notice, one term’s fees will be payable.

Your assistance with this communication would be appreciated so 2014 classes can be finalised before the end of year and appropriate positions can be allocated to girls on our current waiting list.

If your daughter will not be continuing at Loreto College in 2014 please notify the Enrolments and Communications Manager, Ms Emma Beach at enrol@loreto.qld.edu.au or phone the office on 3394 9999.

Booklists All students should now have receive their to sell/buy booklists.

Students in Year 11 can hand in their books once they have finished with them, to the service area during exam block or to Room 605 on Wednesday 27 November. Books also need to be clearly marked with owner’s name and placed inside a bag with student’s “to Sell” form completed.

Book Sale Day Is Saturday 30 November from 8.30 am - 11.30am. Please note that this will be your only opportunity to purchase second hand books. There will be no second hand books available for purchase in January 2014. If you are unable to make the sale day, please make arrangement with someone else to purchase books on your behalf.

Symons Book Orders These can now be ordered on the Symons web site until Tuesday 3 December. Please order on time as any orders placed after that date will be classed as late orders and may not arrive on time for the start of the 2014 school year. A complete booklist is also on our College web site (under academic/textbook lists) with our school’s code LOR01. You will need the code when ordering from Symons. Book packs are available for collection on Monday 27 January 2014 from 9.00am 3.00pm and on Tuesday 28 January from 9.00am - 12 midday. If you are unable to collect your book pack on either of those days please arrange with someone to collect on your behalf. Please make a note in your diary of all the above dates and times as we receive a large number of calls at the beginning of each year enquiring about pickup dates etc. Thank you.

Careers News Design College Australia - Open Day 7 December Design College Australia is opening it's doors to our future students. Come along and see what programs we have on offer to kickstart your creative career in both photography and graphic design. We will have student work and folios on display, staff and students will also be available for a chat. By coming along you will get a feel for the campus and what it's like to study with us here at the College. Come along and learn more about our Advanced Diploma in visual communication programs, in both photography and graphic design. With full time and part time modes of study available you can follow your creative dream while still keeping up the demands of everyday life.

Music News Crazy For You update Positions for the Crew have now been filled: congratulations to Jacqueline West, Brigid Kelly, Ashleigh Da Silva, Jessica Balzano, Tiarna Smith, Leah Carey, Ainsley Carter and Georgia Johnson – these girls should now collect a Musical Contract from the Music Office.

Thank you to everyone who applied for any position within the musical. If you were unfortunate and missed out on a position, and would still like to be involved in some capacity, please email Mr Langford and we will try to give you first preference on being Ushers for at least one show.

Music Camp 2014 Invites for places on the 2014 Music Camp have been previously emailed directly to students in Concert Band One, Guitar Ensemble One, String Ensemble and Senior Choir, using your school email addresses. The closing date for replies has passed, so if you have not yet accepted your invitation, you should do so via the online google form urgently (the link is in the email)! If you believe you are eligible to attend Music Camp and have not received an emailed invite, then see Mr Langford immediately.

Ensemble Music Any students who were not able to attend the final rehearsal for their music groups and therefore still have ensemble music, could you please return this to the Music Office urgently so that it can be filed?

Diary Date The 2014 Welcome Supper for the Music Support Group will be held on Wednesday 12 February next year. Put the date in your diary now – we would love to see you come along!

Grigoryan Nights DVD To all who ordered Grigoryan Nights DVD's, contrary to earlier announcements, the Grigoryan Nights DVD's are not ready for collection yet.

The DVD's were delivered to Villanova and Loreto for Monday collections, but on reviewing them, we've noticed many glitches that unfortunately are unacceptable. We plan to re-master the DVD and have the whole order re-done in the next few days, so we ask your patience. Thanks for your understanding, and feel free to watch the Villanova Music website to see when they're ready to collect.

Private Tuition Forms 2014 A large number of these forms remain outstanding, if you have not returned a Private Tuition Form 2014 indicating whether you wish to continue/discontinue with tuition next year, please complete and form and return to the Music Office ASAP. Parent Sport Support Group—Bunnings Sausage Sizzle A huge thank you to all the parents who volunteered and assisted at the recent Bunnings Sausage Sizzle! This was our first fundraiser and we were thrilled with the end result. We raised a total of $1530. Thank you again for your efforts.

St Vincent de Paul News Our members are still wrapping presents for the elderly of our local Meals on Wheels. Thank you to those who have donated gifts so far, however we need 230 presents and are still short of our target. Our members get so much out of personally delivering these Christmas gifts along with a meal. Thank you.

Tuckshop News To all the volunteers in the tuckshop this year I thank you very much for all your help. Without your commitment during the year I would not be able to do all that I do for the students, staff and school functions.

P & F Parent Year Level Representatives Year 10 Parent Year Representatives for 2014 Thank you to the parents who have kindly offered to act as Year 10 Parent Reps for 2014. We wish you luck with your planning for next year ladies.

We still need volunteers from one or two parents from Year 8, 9, 11 and 12 to organize ‘get-togethers’. These are a wonderful way to meet other parents from your daughter’s Year. The events can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish!

Some event ideas may include drinks and nibbles by the Loreto pool, at someone’s home, park or a restaurant or bar.

Support a local café by organising a Sunday brunch. You may even like to combine a Year level get-together with another event, such as a College dance. If you are holding an event at a private home, we will provide you with a copy of the GUIDELINES FOR HOLDING FUNCTIONS AT PRIVATE RESIDENCES. Advertising your events is as simple as placing an ‘advert’ in the weekly Loreto newsletter. You can put together your own advert or we can help you. We do ask that you keep the details to a half A4 page and remember to include a coupon. Results from Round 6:

Under 13 The team had a good win against St Rita’s. The 13’s were in control of the game and showed some great attacking potential but some minor lapses of concentration let a few goals in. Overall a really solid game.

Coach: Oliver Chamber

Under 14 Had an amazing game this week, winning the first game of the season against Brigidine 5 - 4. The girls played exceptionally well as we saw everyone come back in defense covering a player. In attack, the girls worked hard to get the ball into the goal, looking for the free player and never giving up.

Coach: Caitlyn Chambers

Under 15 Lost against St Rita’s but not through lack of trying. The girls still managed to throw out some good goals and save some almost sure goals in defence. However, they were out skilled by a stronger opponent on the day.

Coach: Oliver Chamber

Under 16 Had another solid game on the weekend beating St Margaret’s by 10 goals. A special mention must be made to the new rookie players Brigitte and Georgia who have shown outstanding improvement in the limited time they have been playing.

This was clearly evident in their performances on the weekend.

Under 18 Pulled together for another solid win. The girls are working well on creating a mushroom, allowing the centre forward to gain position. This often led to either an extra man or a 5m penalty. Well done girls and keep up the strong effort Coach: James Duffy

Swimming Squad for 2014 The Term 4 Swimming Squad program has started. This is an opportunity for all girls wanting to be part of the 2014 Swim Squad to meet the new coach, Ms Hatch, in preparation for the 2014 season. It is recommended that all girls who want to be in the team for 2014 attend. The details are as follows: Monday and Wednesday from 6.30am to 7.45am at Loreto Pool.

SWIM CLINIC/SQUAD TRAINING

Date: 13, 14, 15 January & 20, 21 & 22 January 2014.

Days: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.

Venue: Loreto Swimming Pool.

Time: 7:15am – 9:00am.

Cost: Free for Swim Clinic.

There will be a Breakfast on 22nd January directly after training.

(Cost of Breakfast will be $10.00 per swimmer)

The Loreto Swim clinic/training program offers an opportunity for all girls to improve their stroke and fitness, in preparation for the 2014 Competition. Competitive swimmers/past squad swimmers will benefit from a customised training program that aims to build on the success from the 2013 season.

Social swimmers are welcome.
