14 June 2011
Dear Parents and Students The season of Pentecost provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon the experience of the disciples post Jesus’ death and resurrec on in a me of trial, difficulty, uncertainty and struggle. Great hope, strength, courage, purpose, direc on and wisdom can be found through prayer and faith and an openness to the work of THE SPIRIT living and working with, through and amongst us. This is a belief held dearly and firmly. THE SPIRIT enables wondrous and extraordinary things: acceptance; resilience; courage; hope; reconcilia on; forgiveness; transforma on; op mism; renewal and peace. These arguably are the gi s of FELICITY and FREEDOM. These gi s lead us ul mately to an ever hopeful and enduring love of God, self and others. THE SPIRIT understands our deepest longings, nourishes our wellsprings and listens to our hearts’ desires, enabling us to be all that God would have us be. We give thanks for the blessing of winter: Season to cherish the heart. To make warmth and quiet for the heart. To make soup and broths for the heart. To cook for the heart. To curl up so ly and nestle with the heart. To sleep deeply and gently at one with the heart. To dream with the heart. To spend me with the heart. A long, long me of peace with the heart. We give thanks for the blessing of winter: Season to cherish the heart. Amen Michael Leunig A MEETING WITH THE MINISTER Last Friday, the College Leadership team were delighted to welcome our local member, the Minister for Educa on and Industrial Rela ons, Cameron Dick MP, to Loreto. Amongst other things, his visit provided a mely opportunity for us to discuss the Queensland government’s “Flying Start” program that will see Year 7’s enter secondary schools in 2015. Educa onally, I believe this to be a very posi ve change that will enable Year 7 students improved access to specialist teachers and facili es to enhance their learning as envisaged by the Na onal Curriculum which will be implemented from 2012. As I reflect on the term that has been, the brevity and the intensity of it, I marvel at the commitment of the staff and the students. Let us rejoice in their op mism and their success in living through a most challenging term. Yours sincerely Cheryl Hamilton Principal
