INSPIRATION

Fayetteville, AR Music Library Spring 2024

Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Illustrator, Photoshop

Goal 1

Connect the non-musical community to the library

Goal 2

Give local artists easy and affordable ways to produce their music

Strategy

Small indoor/outdoor bar, with live music featuring local artists

Strategy Provide high-end production studio

Goal 3

Enhance employee happiness

Goal 4

Design more sustainable

Strategy

Provide natural light and private space for breaks

Strategy Follow Leed and Well guidelines

My concept for the music library transcends mere functionality, aiming to embody the very spirit and essence of music itself. Rooted in a dedication to nurturing local talent, my design centers on supporting and sustaining the vibrant community of artists and bands. Through thoughtful curation of spaces that facilitate collaboration, creativity, and connection, I seek to empower emerging talents and elevate their voices. Furthermore, my design narrative delves deeper, using the tactile language of dark natural materials to evoke the rich emotional palette of music.

Power of Music

This collage shows the power of music and the effect it has on the community.

Interpreting the Program

Took the program and used the massing model. Broke it up into three levels like the building, planning the connection of spaces.

Positive vs. Negative Space

Took the collage and looked at colors and density to create a diagram.

Massing Diagram

Took the negative space form the previous diagram to create massing.

Massing Model

Created a study model to look more closely at the massing.

Fitting the program into the Floor Plan

Took the massing diagram with the program and planned the circulation of space.

Floor plan Diagram

Created a study model to show the negative vs. positive space on each floor.

SITE LOCATION

NEXT is an Architecture and Design firm located out of Los Angeles, California. They are looking to expand to Dallas, Texas since some of their clients are located in this area.

NEXT values collaboration and employee well-being.

The firm drew inspiration from the beautiful landscapes in Texas. Their focus throughout their design is ecopsychology, the study of the effect nature has on the human mind and body. They wanted to take this idea as well as their inspiration and combine it to create a workplace focused on connection and wellbeing. They did this by using local materials and colors from the nature of Texas.

Transverse Section

The reception is one of the first things you see as a client or an employee when stepping off of the elevator. This space is warm, inviting, and introduces the concept to the visitor. The bold orange that is throughout the space ties into the agate pattern on the reception desk. This orange can be seen all throughout the design.

Materials

The flooring is limestone, which is a material naturally found in North Texas. The wood on the back wall is made of white oak, which is native to Texas as well.

WORK CAFE

The work cafe is a necessary space to promote the feeling of relaxation. The green in the space is meant to calm the employees

This is the largest group of workstations in the office. The orange is carried throughout the space, but in small quantities as to not distract the workers.

I was immediately drawn to Reserve, LA because of how These people are impacted daily by large amounts of pollution negatively affecting their airways. A lot of the people here tend to pass away due to cancer and are ignored by the government. With this project I wanted to create something that would make the community feel seen and heard, Something that they would feel comfortable in

COURTYARD
Transverse Section
Longitudinal Section

Something that was important to helping the community feel at home was bringing back what had been taken from them, the surrounding environment. Because of the factories being built there, they lost that connection to nature. So I used greens and blues inspired by the colors of the marsh that surrounds Reserve.

ARACHNE

CONCEPT

The concept behind “Ornamental” draws inspiration from the striking beauty of tarantulas—their intricate patterns and their remarkable ability to blend into their surroundings despite their vivid coloring. My goal is to create a lamp that embodies this duality, serving as both a bold statement piece and a subtle complement to its environment, depending on the needs of the space.

MOTIF

I focused mostly on the shape of the body, recreating this in my design with the “outer layer.” The inner layer of my design is inspired by the pattern on the abdomen.
