RASHELL GEORGE Downpour

Lora Schlesinger is pleased to announce Rashell George’s second solo-exhibition with the gallery. Downpour features new paintings and collages by the artist. The exhibition opens on Saturday, April and is on view through June 1, 2013. The East Gallery presents Rashell George’s second solo-exhibition, Downpour, featuring two new series of works by the artist. Using landscapes as a central theme, George strips the genre down to its most bare elements. The Framing Foliage series consists of landscape imagery (from books, magazines, brochures, etc.) that George has painted over leaving only the foliage, creating a photographic frame around a solid colored background. In the Downpour series George applies horizontal washes of paint that drip down from the top to the base of the canvas, building an atmospheric haze that fabricates the illusion of space and depth. Rashell George received her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Painting and Drawing. She was the recipient of the Friends of Joe Mugnaini Award in 2004. The gallery is located in the Bergamot Station Art Center, 2525 Michigan Avenue, T3, Santa Monica.
