Letter ta SGA: Disruption occurs at Movies

As a member of the Student Government Association and as a concerned student, I find it neccessary to address a very unpleasant matter that was brought to my attention in a most uninvited way. I was one of the many unfortunate people who chose to attend the SGA sponsored showing of "Stripes" at the newly organized Movie Night. The feature was shown as just one of many SGA sponsored events which exemplifiy SGA's attempt to bring decent activities to the student body. I say I · was unfortunate in attending this particular event because all of us in the audience were subjected to a constant barrage of inappropriate language and shouting by a few of our male residents who had obviously been drinking.

Eveh polite requests to quiet them were ignorantly responded to.

They call themselves the "men" of Counsel and the "men" of Sullivan, but after this incident I question how appropriate such a title is for the students involved . Even though I was seated in the second row, the movie was almost entirely inaudible because of the unruley, boisterous conduct of these students. Not only was I surprised by their unmanly behavior, as a member of the Cabrini community, I was also embarrassed because the audience was not limmitted to Cabrini students alone. 8GA sponsors these events for the campus community in an effort to provide entertainment in a relaxing, close knit atmosphere . This atmosphere was completely shattered by those few students who chose to ruin the evening for everyone. Perhaps an occassional outburst would have been tolerated by the patient audience, but their vulgarities ran the entire length of the movie. Even polite requests to quiet them were ignorantly responded to. This kind of behavior is completely uncalled for at a college level. As an SGA member and as an individual of the audience who was extremely distracted, I feel obligated to comment on this situation and hope such immaturity will not be exemplified again at a college function. Action has already been taken as a result of this matter: Movies will no longer be shown on weekends. It is a great shame that the actions of a few effect so many.

Sincerely, Karen Labenz

The Student Government Association supports Karen Labenz in presenting the above opinion as she is a member of our organization. We are very empathetic with the above commentary and regret that the audience at one of our events was distracted by a few individuals. We thank Karen for presenting this article to the Cabrini Community and hope such letters are not neccessary in the future.

Chess club at Cabrini College?

by Mike Tamburro Sure! This moment heralds the birth of Cabrini College's newest student organization - the Cabrini Chess Club (CCC for short). The club already boasts a list of 23 members and draws about 10 to 12 members per meeting. Also, the club has two moderators in the gracious volunteers of Mr. Kuhns and Mr. Latavic. Both men have previous college chess experience. The club hopes to foster a higher appreciation for the noble game. As as attention-getter, a simultaneous exhibition may be held in which one or two players challenge several other players at once. A tournament will also be held. This will be open to the entire campus and surrounding communities as well. When pos- - sible, the CCC hopes to compete with surrounding schools in dual meets, too. Anyone not already involved is encouraged to attend the meetings, held every Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Widener Center conference room. Anyone interested can learn the game - The beginning of one game - or an era? its easy! Don't be shy about your ability. All are welcome .
