Activity Guide

Message from the Director
Dear Lake Oswego Community,
As we enjoy the last days of summer and look forward to the crisp air of fall, I am delighted to welcome you to our 2024 Fall Activity Guide. This season, we are excited to introduce various programs and events designed to enrich your lives and bring our community together.

This fall, our offerings span a wide range of interests and ages, from outdoor adventures and sports leagues to creative arts and wellness programs. Whether you're looking to explore the beauty of our parks, stay active with fitness classes, or engage in enriching activities with your family, we have something for everyone.
We are also eagerly anticipating the opening our new Lake Oswego Recreation & Aquatics Center, a collaboration between the City and Lake Oswego School District. Thanks to the 2019 bond dollars, this project is a state-of-the-art facility offering an array of recreational and aquatic programs that will further enhance our community's lifestyle. We are anticipating opening late this year, so stay tuned!
Did you see our new department branding? This simple and elegant graphic creates a recognizable identity that embodies the department's authentic character while embracing the core branding of the City of Lake Oswego. It integrates all of our divisions and reflects our values, mission, and commitment to our community. Please watch as we transition and use the brand throughout our department collateral materials and projects.
Lastly, I want to underline our recognition of the CAPRA (Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies) accreditation. This prestigious honor underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence, ensuring we provide our residents with the highest quality services and facilities. For more information about the accreditation process, including the policies, procedures, and ongoing assessments required to meet national standards, please visit our website.
Thank you for your continued support and participation in our programs. Your involvement is what makes our community vibrant and thriving. We look forward to seeing you out and about enjoying all this wonderful season has to offer.
Warm regards, and get out and recreate.

VISIT OUR NATURAL AREAS
Springbrook Park
Springbrook Park is perfect for hiking and wildlife viewing. Accessible from multiple small neighborhood entrances, the park is located across Country Club Road from Lake Oswego High School. It features nearly 2 miles of relatively flat trails, with Springbrook Creek flowing through it on its way to Oswego Lake.
Hallinan Woods
Hallinan Woods, a 3.72-acre natural area north of Hallinan Elementary School, features a natural creek and forested area. The main path through the park is a favorite for walkers, bikers, students, and parents heading to the elementary school. The natural area can be accessed from the school field near the Hemlock Street cul-de-sac and O'Brien Street.
TREE CITY USA

Lake Oswego is proud to celebrate 35 years as a Tree City USA. Trees play a crucial role in removing pollution from the atmosphere, improving air quality and human health. By absorbing carbon dioxide and storing carbon, they release oxygen back into the air. A mature tree can absorb more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in a year. Additionally, trees can flood their leaves with special chemicals when insects attack and signal danger to other trees so they can grow their own defense.

Rassekh Skatepark is Open!

On June 14, 2024, Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation moved the construction fencing at Rassekh Park to open the 10,000-square-foot skatepark for public use—just in time for summer break. Community members quickly gathered, eager to experience the new facility. Skaters of all ages waited their turn, while onlookers relaxed nearby.
Rassekh Skatepark fulfills a decade-long promise from the City and reflects years of local skater advocacy. The previous skatepark closed in 2015, and after public feedback in 2021, a skatepark was added to Rassekh Park’s design.
Designed by California Skateparks with local input, the new skatepark offers a blend of street and transition features suitable for all ages, abilities, skill levels, and wheels.

Though the skatepark is now open, work to complete Phase 1 of Rassekh Park continues. A Grand Opening Celebration will take place later this summer. Phase 1 will also include vehicle and bicycle parking, restrooms, and a drinking fountain. Plans for the next phase, featuring a playground and picnic shelter,

What is Parks Plan 2040?

You may have seen the lawn signs or posters around Lake Oswego promoting Parks Plan 2040, taken the online survey last fall, or perhaps you even stumbled upon one of the neighborhood workshops held in local parks this past June. At its core, Parks Plan 2040 is Lake Oswego’s long-range plan for how its Parks & Recreation Department will serve the community over the next 15 years. Once completed, this plan will act as a roadmap to guide Parks & Recreation policies, capital improvements, maintenance practices, recreation programming, and overall operations through the year 2040. Parks Plan 2040 lays out a community vision for the future of parks and recreation in Lake Oswego, and outlines the goals and strategies needed to get us there. The planning

process began in the summer of 2023 with a comprehensive inventory of Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation’s parks, trails, natural areas, recreation facilities, programs, and services. The project team gathered information about unmet community needs, local priorities, and evolving trends in parks and recreation. Over the summer, Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation held neighborhood workshops to collect ideas about improvements, amenities, projects, events, or programs community members would like to see in their parks. These ideas will form the foundation of Parks Plan 2040, guiding future park and recreation investments to reflect community priorities identified through an equitable engagement process.
The next step for Parks Plan 2040 will be to analyze and prioritize the projects and recommendations to determine how, when, and in what order they could be accomplished. Over the next six months the project team will work to prioritize the recommendations, identify funding and operational strategies, and develop an implementation and action plan that clearly lays out the steps needed to achieve Lake Oswego’s park and recreation goals.
