Balancing Breakfast

With the school year in full swing, it can be hard to squeeze breakfast time into already busy mornings But you don’t always have to!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for children Healthy on-the-go breakfast options like yogurts and smoothies ensure your kids can always start the day strong

For our favorite suggestions, watch Dr Menzin’s video about choosing the best yogurt on our Instagram page!

RSV Vaccines for Babies & During Pregnanc

Longwood Pediatrics encourages all pregnant people to discuss maternal RSV vaccine with their doctors Pregnant people should receiv single dose of Pfizer’s Abrysvo RSV vaccine during weeks 32 through 36 pregnancy, available from September through January

Beyfortus (nirsevimab) is recommended for all infants under 8 months born to parents who did not receive the maternal RSV vaccine dur pregnancy. Babies born to pregnant people who have received the Abry vaccine more than 2 weeks before delivery are protected from RSV, therefore do not need Beyfortus

For more information on RSV vaccines for babies and during pregnancy visit CDC.gov.

FALL BACK

This year, Daylight Savings Time ends on: Sunday, November 3 2 AM Eastern Time

After the “fall back,” toddlers may crash before bedtime or wake up earlier than usual. Following a bedtime routine and putting kids to bed 15 minutes later over several days can help them adjust to the time change If you have concerns about your child’s sleep, discuss with their primary care physician.

Changing seasons and routine shifts are bound to impact children’s sleep schedules, especially after the beginning of the school year Recommended sleep hours vary as kids get older, but by how much exactly?

The sleep chart below shows recommended hours of sleep each night for different age groups, from infancy to adolescence These suggestions are supported by American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) research, which also emphasizes that children who get enough sleep at night report better school performance, memory, behavior, mental health, and immunity.

Establishing a consistent bedtime routine, limiting screen time before bed, and maintaining an active daily schedule can help ensure children of all ages get the rest they need Making sleep a priority for your family makes it easier for your children to follow, especially as they get older and develop their own habits

Halloween is a fun and exciting time for kids and families who partake in the festivities

To keep your children and teens safe from any risks that Halloween outings like trick-ortreating may pose, follow these safety measures and discuss them with your children:

ALWAYS accompany young children trick-or-treating. Plan routes for older children trick-or-treating alone.

Cross roads as a group using established crosswalks Establish a buddy system to ensure everyone stays together. Stay on well-lit streets and main roads, especially after dark. Remind children to NEVER enter a home or vehicle for a treat.
