2014 Summer Performance Series We have a very big birthday to celebrate on June 24 when our Open Air Theatre turns 100 years old. Over the past century, thousands of musical, dance, and theater performances have graced the Open Air Theatre stage.

Our founder Pierre S. du Pont visited a theatre garden in Siena, Italy, in 1913 and decided to build a larger version. Our Open Air Theatre debuted at the 1914 Garden Party—and thus began our 100-year Performing Arts tradition.
