Winter Wonder On View January 20–March 24, 2024 2024 promises to be a year to remember as we look to a fall opening of the muchanticipated Longwood Reimagined, yet special moments throughout the year will give you a glimpse of what’s ahead.

Starting the year off is our captivating winter season, bursting with warmth, wonder, and wow moments at every turn in the Conservatory. Ever-changing and always stunning, our Gardens from January through March are all about bold blooms, textural touches, and grand displays under glass. Plus, enjoy free programs like our Science Series and special Floral Features.

Just like a garden, buildings need tending and we’re taking these first few months of the new year to care for the Peirce-du Pont House, The Café, and 1906, resulting in closures. The House will be closed through early March.

The Café and 1906 will be closed through April, yet plenty of delicious food will be available in climate-controlled tents. Thank you for understanding as we freshen our Gardens up for you!

Join Our Community Read In the eleventh year of our Community Read, we are exploring the inspiration and meaning we can all find in the beauty of gardens.

Along with our community partners—gardens, museums, conservation organizations, and public libraries—this collaborative effort between Longwood and the community brings books and people together to encourage reading for pleasure and to start a conversation. This year, we’ve selected our very first historical fiction book, as well as a picture book adaptation of a classic novel for our youngest readers—both focusing on the powerful connections between gardens and people.

The Last Garden in England

by Julia Kelly The lovely gardens of Highbury House are at the center of this historical fiction novel that takes place in 1907, 1944, and present day, connecting five women— from the gardens’ original designer through the modern-day designer charged with restoring their beauty— and exploring how each finds solace and connection with the gardens.

The Secret Garden based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, adapted by Calista Brill, and illustrated by Adelina Lirius.

In this picture book adaptation of the classic novel, our younger readers follow Mary Lennox as she moves into a confusing new home and finds comfort from exploring the grounds and gardens surrounding the imposing manor house.

Through unexpected friendships, fresh air, connecting with nature, and a mystery surrounding a secret garden, Mary is transformed.
