Welcome!
For roughly half of you reading this you will have only just started at Long Road. We know that this can be daunting, and it can take some time to adjust. So we thought it would be a good idea to tell you a bit about ourselves and some other departments and what they can do for you!
Student Services
We are Student Services, a friendly team here to help you during your time at Long Road. You can find us at Reception and the help desk in the Student Centre, or email us at help@longroad.ac.uk. We provide support for a number of services, including things such as:

Progress Coaches
As you find your feet here at Long Road, your Progress Coach will always be here to keep a close eye on how you ’ re getting on. They will have regular Progress Review meetings with you to help you stay on track and give you the support you need. You will have a weekly 45 minute tutorial with them covering topics like:
Job and university applications
Writing a CV
Society and philosophy
Politics and voting
Additional Learning Support
Feeling anxious or overwhelmed? Maybe you ’ re struggling with your workload? Don’t worry, Long Road has you covered. Our wonderful Additional Learning Support team will work alongside you to make sure you can achieve to your highest potential. Finance
Our finance department are based in the Student Centre and are always happy to help you with whatever queries you might have. Whether you need help with paying for a trip, bursaries, travel, books, ParentPay, free college meals, or anything else, nothing is too much trouble. If they are busy or you are not in college, you can always email them at finance@longroad.ac.uk.
Careers
The careers team are based in the LRC, and are committed to helping you explore and discover the best career path for you. They run a number of events throughout the year, including:

Wellbeing
Health Assured ��
Health Assured is a free resource available to students to help you with your mental health. Go to the website, log in using the unique code, and you’ll gain access to a 24/7 helpline, wellbeing app, live chat, video calls, and more.

First Aid ��
At Long Road we have a number of staff who are first aid trained. If you or someone you know are ever in need of first aid assistance, not matter how big or small, you can go to Reception and ask.
Enrichment
What’s On?
We have a plethora of exciting enrichment opportunities at Long Road with something that should interest everyone. Please keep in mind that some clubs may not be up and running yet, but we expect that all will be available from after the October half term. Some clubs are still to be confirmed (TBC).
The Long Lens ��
The Long Lens is Long Road’s very own film magazine, and has been going strong since 2020. The next issue’s theme is Superstition and Folklore, so if you’d like to contribute please email thelonglens@longroad.ac.uk. See previous issues here.
Spooky Season ��
Get into the Halloween spirit with us! Come to Slasher School in G116 Tuesdays 14:40 - 16:10. Learn about horror movies, the genre conventions, and how to make your own horror film.
Sports Facilities
There are so many high quality sports and fitness facilities available at Long Road. Whether you ’ re interested in a football scholarship, team sports, casual sports, gym sessions, or wellbeing fitness, there is something available for everyone.

Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Scheme is a fantastic way to enjoy new and exciting experiences, develop skills and enhance your UCAS and job applications. Lead by the wonderful Kelcy Davenport, the DofE program is open to all and includes:

Wellbeing Wednesdays ��
Wellbeing Wednesdays are back, but this year the format for this club will be changing. Instead of being held weekly in the Student Centre, the Wellbeing team will be bringing in guests on a regular basis. This will include professionals in a variety of disciplines, including:

Student Club Vacancies
Would you like to lead the Warhammer Club? Last year, this club was very popular. Unfortunately, the student who used to run it has now finished their studies, so we ’ re looking for new students to lead the club. Email enrichment@longroad.ac.uk and we’ll support you in getting the club running.
Youth Social Action
Charlotte Smith is our Social Action and Enrichment Coordinator. Those of you here last year will know she runs a plethora of events, including Culture Day, IWD Careers Day, Bake Sales for Endometriosis, and more. This year she is also in charge of enrichment for the college, and to kick the year off she ran a Fresher’s Fair on Friday 19 September with tremendous success. Ramboll
Engineering Challenge
Interested in engineering? Long Road runs an annual challenge led by engineers from Ramboll, a global engineering and consultancy company. You will learn and apply the principles of engineering and work in groups to build a bridge using cardboard. Those who complete all four sessions will be invited to visit the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering to take part in activities and tours.
The challenge will take place on Wednesdays on 8th October, 15th, October, 22nd October, and 5th November, at 2:40 - 4:10pm in . You must attend every session and a Certificate of Participation will be awarded to those who do. This challenge is particularly suited to those studying Maths, Physics, and Design Technology, but students from any subject can apply. Places are limited, so click here to apply now!
Sookio Creative Careers Challenge
Thinking about a career in marketing and communications? The Sookio Creative Careers Challenge is led by Sue Keogh, founder of Sookio, a leading communications consultancy based in Cambridge. You will learn the core principles of marketing and branding and take part in activities led by a variety of experts.
The sessions will run from 2:40 - 4:10 on Tuesday, 7th October, Wednesday 22nd October, and Wednesday 5th November. The final session, on Tuesday, 18th November, will be an all-day session (authorised absence), where students will make their pitches. You are expected to attend every session and those who do will receive a Certificate of Participation. Rooms to be confirmed. Students doing English, Business, Graphic Design, Art, Media, Computing, IT, may be interested, but any student can apply. Places are limited, click here to apply now!
Degree Apprenticeship Preparation Programme

Degree Apprentices split their time between university study and the workplace and are employed throughout, gaining a degree while earning a wage and getting on-the-job experience in their chosen profession. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, Long Road can support you with the application process. Museum Volunteering
The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology Cambridge is looking for volunteers! You will be assisting in enhancing the visitor experience through front of house. World Mental Health Day
Friday 10 October is World Mental Health Day, an international event recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that has taken place every year since 1992. The aim of the day is to raise awareness, educate, fight stigma, and advocate for mental health, and over 150 countries participate. Tiger Pass Petition
The Tiger Pass was introduced by the previous mayor and is a lifeline for young people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It’s free to apply for, and offers £1 bus fares for under 25s. The new mayor has refused to rule out cuts to this vital scheme, so if you’d like to stand up for affordable transport for young people, sign this petition!
