Longlevens AFC Our Club History The Club, in its current format, was founded in 1954.

We initially played in the North Gloucestershire League, but currently we operate in the UHL Sport Hellenic League, the Gloucestershire Norther Senior League and the Stroud and District League.

In 2011/12, Gloucester City Council created a new football facility and we were fortunate enough to be offered the tenancy, which enabled us to make the step-up to the Gloucestershire County League – our facilities at our Club HQ could not be converted to ‘make the grade’.

At this point, we must give great credit to E. G. Carter and Company Limited, our major sponsors, because, without them, we could not have got Saw Mills up to the required standard and I am happy to say that they are still the major force for the improvements that we have subsequently made – so “Thank You” Carters, as they are locally referred to!

We run five male adult sides, a Ladies side and a Veterans team and this season we are expanding our Youth Section to include sides from U8’s to U11’s and this will bring us to a total of 27 sides in all and we are recognised as a Charter Standard Development Club. Special mention here to Dennis Barnsley who has done so much work in respect of the Youth Section and the Charter Standard and to our Chairman, Mark Cornell and Treasurer Chris Trout for putting in so much work to make the expansion of the Youth Section happen.

We had spent more than forty years trying to reach the Gloucestershire County League, but amazingly, within three years we had passed through it and gained promotion to the UHLSPORT Hellenic League, having won the League in 2013-14 and once again we were indebted to Carters for helping us to upgrade Saw Mills to the required standard.

So, in 2014/15 we started another new phase for the Club, in Division One West of the UHLSPORT Hellenic League and what a start! We won the Division at the first attempt, so after three consecutive titles and two consecutive promotions, we found ourselves in the Premier Division and in 2017-18 recorded our highest League position, but we recognise the difficulties of facing sides that have a history and an infrastructure that is vastly superior to ours – but, after a hard fought battle, last season, we secured our place for season 2019-20 over the Easter weekend fixtures.

Mark Moore took over Management duties in 2017-18, after long-serving manager James French stood down, but unfortunately, only a few months into the 2018-19 campaign, Mark suffered a recurrence of the heart condition that had seen him forced into premature retirement, as a player, a couple of years previously. Mark’s health has improved significantly and we wish him well and hope to see him back at the Club in the near future and we are pleased to say that James still ‘chips-in’ albeit more in the background these days.

Club stalwart and Mark’s assistant Craig ‘Spider’ Martin stepped into the breach, as we thought temporarily, but, as it became obvious that Mark’s condition wouldn’t allow him to return, Craig was officially recognised.

Realising that he would need help, he asked Tim Hall to reconsider his decision to ‘step-away’ from the Club at the end of 2017-18, which he did, and we were also fortunate to secure the services of Tommy Callinan, Daryl Long and more recently Kacey Johnstone to help Craig out and we are pleased to say that this ‘team’ will continue to run things in Season 2020-21.We were finishing last season very strongly and were on course to better our highest ever finish, but the Coronavirus derailed the season and, in fact, the World and casting one’s mind back to February, it is amazing to think that at that time our only real concern was with the weather and would our pitch be playable – we certainly had no idea of the impact that this pandemic would have on the World.

Apologies to all those people at the Club who deserve a name-check but didn’t get one!

Having won everything at Northern Senior Level, Barnett made the step up to Hellenic Football with Longlevens in 2018. He can play anywhere across the back 4 and has been a consistent performer in all positions.

Ben will be looking to push on after a solid first season in the Hellenic Premier which saw him captain the side on one occasion. A strong no nonsense defender.

Been with the first team for the best part of 10 years, has helped with the progression from Northern Senior League to Hellenic League football. Quick and deceptively good in the air.

Former Forest Green Rovers Academy defender who is looking to follow in his families footsteps of making a name for himself in local football.

Impressed when he was involved with the team last season, looking to kick on again this season.

Been at the club for a couple seasons now, he is a technical central midfielder who doesn't lose many headers. Will hope to add more goals to his game this season.

Club Captain for the past 2 seasons, inspirational both on and off the field. Will influence through his performances, rather than his talking and all the lads look up to him.

Former Cheltenham Town Academy midfielder, been at the club for 4 seasons. Scored for every team at the club and looking to improve on last season.

Best goal scoring winger at the club, 3rd top goal scorer last season. Hopefully learns to head the ball this season.

Joe is a former Gloucester City youth player, in his first full season at Longlevens. Contributed in the games he played in last season, and hopes to kick on this season and earn a regular start.

Young lad who has played for Gloucester City youth teams, looks after the ball well and has a good eye for a pass, will be looking to be more involved with the first team this year after winning the Reserves Players Player of the Year.

Most talented utility player in the league, will play in any position on the pitch if required. Played up top for the majority of last season and scored 20 goals. Looking to do the same and try and better that this year.

Binfield • Club History

Binfield FC first played in 1892, during the reign of Queen Victoria, making us one of the oldest Association Football clubs in the world! The team comprised young men from the local brickworks and those who worked on the land around Binfield. The club’s early years were spent in the Ascot and District League, where we enjoyed many successful seasons winning the Fielden Cup for the first time in 1924 and on eleven further occasions since.

During the 2nd World War, we joined the Great Western Combination League, winning the championship in 1947. During that period we also won the Berks and Bucks Junior Cup and the Maidenhead Norfolkian Cup and it was not unusual to see crowds in excess of 1,000 at our Forest Road ground.

In 1950 we joined the Reading and District League, where we remained for the next forty years. In 1972 Binfield won promotion to the Premier Division for the first time and although relegated two years later we returned in 1976 as 1st Division Champions. A huge crowd, reminiscent of the 1940’s, packed Forest Road to witness our promotion. In 1980, the club made an important decision to move from Forest Road, where facilities were shared with the cricket club, to our current site in Hill Farm Lane. Turning that field into the football ground we see today was a massive task. Thanks to an enormous amount of physical work by the members of the club the area was levelled and drained within three years. The members then set about building the club house. This progress off the field was matched on it when in 1987 and 1988 we won Division 2 and then Division 1 of the Reading and District League.

In 2001 we merged with Binfield’s junior club, Binfield Forest FC, and in doing so significantly increased the member- ship, with over 20 teams playing every weekend – this season we will field 36 teams each week. The junior part of the club is very important to Binfield with FA Charter status having been achieved in 2007 and in 2013 we were awarded the Berks & Bucks FA and South East Regional FA Charter Status Community Club of the Year awards, culminating in the club being invited to the FA Community Shield at Wembley in August 2013. We’re also in our fourth season of a partnership scheme with Reading FC where some of our younger players have the opportunity to train with Reading. In 2003 we added an Allied Counties Youth team which is now providing a steady stream of talented young players ready for Senior football for the Reserves and 1st Team. Since 2005, progress at the club has been swift, with the addition of floodlights and later a seated stand. The club is tirelessly working to improve our facilities with our “continuous improvement” plan making further change to the car park, to the club house and a new stand around our Tea Bar. We constantly strive to improve all elements of the facilities from changing rooms to a playing surface we are extremely proud of, to benefit everyone from our Under 6s up to our 1st Team and Veterans. We won the Hellenic League Division 1 East title in 2008-09 and gained promotion to the next level of English football, where we finished runners up in the 2010/11 Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division, 3rd in 2012/13 and 5th in 2014.

August 15th 2009 will long be remembered as Binfield’s first game in the legendary FA Cup – and we have enjoyed some good runs reaching the 1st Qualifying round in each of the last two seasons with 400 support- ers enjoying the visit of Margate in 2010 and a trip to Slough Town and narrow defeat in 2011. In 2013 the side reached the 2nd Qualifying round, losing to a 96th minute free kick as Leatherhead came from behind. Binfield entered the FA Vase for the first time in season 2008-09 and enjoyed three rounds, before reaching the 4th round (last 32) in 2011/12 in an incredible season of cup success.

The 2011/12 team is the most successful in our history, winning both the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy and the Hellenic Floodlit Cup in five glorious April 2012 days. We also reached the final of the Hellenic Challenge Cup. Seasons 2017/18 saw great progress at the club. With the successful building of new dressing rooms, disabled access paths and fencing together with a clubhouse refurbishment . On the pitch the 1st team finished 7th in the Premier Division and won the Floodlit cup with a 2-1 win over all conquering Thatcham Town, whilst the reserves finished 4th in the Suburban Premier and the Youth team won the Allied Counties South Division.The Covid 19 affected incomplete season of 2019/20 ended with the Moles sitting second and in the table and in the Quarter Final of the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Challenge Cup.
