I graduated in 2023 from the University of Technology Sydney with an honours degree in Landscape architecture. Following an opportunity through UTS for a design collaboration with CD Studio and TIISHA on multiple Indigenous housing projects, LONGLA STUDIO was founded.

This provided me with an opportunity to obtain hands on professional experience in construction and project management whilst completing my studies. My approach to design is subject to the brief; “lim itations foster creativity”. Although subject to a brief, the core of my designs reflect my upbringing, the natural beauty of the Blue Mountains, with an injection of formality from my time spent living in the United kingdom. It is now time for me to expand my knowledge and creativity by being surrounded and immersed in a professional creative environment. .

Waterloo park, a controversial re-development of the famous Redfern towers. A hub for activism and central to the flourishing urban aboriginal community of the Eora Nation.

With water being at the heart of the project, the dictation of the pre-industrial water lines was key for the flow of foot traffic, central to the human spirit.

Additonally, the linear division of the 6 outlined gathering spaces, each space representing two months of the twelve yearly seasonal conditions of the Eora calender. with careful selection of endemic and native speices in each garden allows a celebrati on to take place of a park that florishes at different moments of the year

“Designing for adaption” 27 Osric Street is an adaptive design to circumstances.

Located within Gunnedah; a remote Australian community. This disablity driven project, is one of simplisticty, low maintenance and filled with potential native species for edible capabilities. A three- dwelling design adaptive for wheelchair accessibility, motor function disability and a home for multiple generaional families allows the development to be flexable to circumstances. .

GUWING, meaning “sun” deriving from the language of the Dhurug nation. This exposed open Pavilion is an unfished and ongoing project that showcases the locality and surroundings of the site.

The UB250 beams mimicing the strength and rawness of the surrounding Eucalyptus grey grums. By cantilevering the

structure from the tree heavy side,

this allowed an undisrupted view of the properties landscape, connecting the family to their surroundings.

My role in this project was an end to end service, designing to project managing including hydro analysis, contractors, structure movement analysis, planting scheme, earth works, material ordering.

Factory Park

Contracted by Alchin Long Group for the masterplan and construction of landscape at 38 Redfern Street. The property is home to two 18,000ft manufacturing units in the heart of Wetherill Park. The conditions of the site was run down and bare. At the front of the property ALG wanted to create an inviting, low maintenance, multi use green space to establish a welcoming entrance, and an additional support area for employee mental health. The design consists of lomandras, poa and dianellas native to the local western sydney bush, providing a contrast against the harsh i ndustrial lots. This was an end to end service, overseeing the entirety of the project, including plant list, ordering materials, construction, earth works, budget and contractors.

05.

‘Middlesex’ a recently renovated 1907 home located close to the town centre of Orange. The client’s brief was to reestablish a garden that respected and enhanced the building’s Edwardian s tructure. A keen interest in the formality of classic English and French gardens, was the central driver. The symmetry and simplicity of the design, and colour scheme, enhanced the beauty of the building’s form. Additionally the client’s keen interest in productive gardens, cr eated an opportunity to use individual species such as: creeping thyme; edible cr ab apples; bay leaf trees and lavender which also performed as a seasonal stimulant for guests. This was an end to end service, overseeing the entirety of the project, including plant list, ordering materials, construction, earth works, budget and contractors. .

With a shift in mindset from reactionary culture to one that designs and prepares for future weather conditions (increased rain, longer droughts) we can interact with water in more ways than we could have imagined and become more resilient to floods and drought. By changing our “traditional” methods of agricultural farming to ones that can thrive with increased rai nfall, We will re-discover our connection to country and live symbiotically with our Australian landscape.

“Design for flooding turns flood threat into opportunity to improve water resources and community resilience at regional, community, and building scale.” (Watson and Adams, 2010) .
