About the Event The Long Island Children’s Museum’s annual fundraiser brings out “kids at heart” from across the region to “play with purpose” in support of LICM’s educational programs, family performances and community outreach efforts. The evening features a continuous cocktail party that allows guests the opportunity to truly experience the Long Island Children’s Museum as they play throughout the galleries, enjoy live performances and explore their creative side in activities and mini-workshops.
A highlight of the evening is the spirited bidding surrounding the Cupcakes Auction as guests vie for experiential packages involving coveted sporting events, highend travel packages, and much more. Leading figures from the worlds of business, athletics, entertainment and the political and academic arenas support this special “night at the museum”—drawn by their shared interest in the Museum’s efforts on behalf of children and families. This strong support makes Cupcakes & Cocktails the most successful fundraising event on Long Island.
Honoree Profile – Laura Curran Inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more … John Quincy Adams outlined these traits as the definition of leadership. Long Island Children’s Museum applauds tonight’s Honoree for incorporating these principles in all phases of his life. As Chief Executive Officer and President of Broadridge Financial Solutions, Inc., Rich Daly is widely recognized for his leadership abilities and business acumen. Prior to the formation of Broadridge in 2007 as a spin-off of ADP, he founded and was directly responsible for the Investor Communications Solutions (“ICS”) business. The ICS business had two employees when he sold it to ADP in 1989. Today, ICS has 4,000 associates globally and reported $2.2 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2016. Today, Broadridge, has over 10,000 associates globally and reported $2.9 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2016. Broadridge was the recipient of New York State’s Society for Human Resource Management award for “Best Companies to Work for in New York State,” the last nine years in a row. Broadridge also earned the prestigious “Gallup Great Workplace Award.” The company’s philanthropic arm, the Broadridge Foundation, supports myriad organizations here and abroad that provides opportunities to improve the lives of individuals, including the MV Foundation’s Residential School for Girls in India. The program tackles the problems of child labor and illiteracy in India, by enrolling children in Residential Bridge Camps. Locally, the Foundation supports Fountain House, which provides employment and
educational support for individuals with mental illness, in addition to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the United Way. Numerous charities over the years have recognized Daly’s service and support, including Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, Viscardi Center and the Diocese of Brooklyn Futures in Education Scholarship Fund. Daly has worked with leading business companies since his graduation from the New York Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, including Arthur Andersen & Co. and Touche Ross & Co, Independent Election Corporation of America, and Thomson McKinnon Securities. He attended the Harvard Business School’s Young President’s Program from 1996-2004, thereby successfully completing the President’s Program in Leadership. Rich was the recipient of the Ernst & Young 2003 Entrepreneur of the Year Award and Arthur Andersen’s worldwide “Best Practices Award” for “Organization” and “People.” He currently serves as a Director of the SIFMA Foundation, a member of the Advisory Board for the New York Stock Exchange and the National Association of Corporate Directors. Long Island Children’s Museum is proud to recognize Richard J. Daly for his commitment to creating opportunities and improving the lives of individuals often overlooked by society.
A Letter from our president Welcome to Cupcakes & Cocktails 2018. Your support of this event allows the Museum to continue its 24-year commitment to providing all children and families with access to vibrant and engaging exhibits and immersive learning experiences. Tonight you will have a chance to experience that first-hand. We are immensely proud of the special role that the Children’s Museum plays in the community. A role that takes on increasing significance when division defines so much of the daily conversations. LICM is the space where all the region’s children meet; the vibrant tapestry that defines Long Island is evident every day in our galleries. It is where all families are welcomed and valued. At the Museum, families find respite from the things that divide us and focus on moments of childhood joy and delight. Creating an environment where our community members connect with each other and with new ideas and experiences is a lasting measure of success, but it is just one of our accomplishment measures. We are happy to share with you some of our success markers from the past year: • National Leadership Position – LICM staff shares expertise at national conferences and on national advisory boards on topics as diverse as access and inclusion initiatives, early childhood teaching methods and field best practices.
• Community Engagement – Serving Long Island’s vulnerable audiences, LICM’s Community Outreach programs further deepened their reach and impact. Addressing dual language learners, students and teachers in high-need school districts and children with a range of neurodivergences and mobility challenges, these initiatives underscore the Museum’s values and mission to all our neighbors. • Audience Development – Welcoming more visitors is just one part of our bottom-line efforts. Our increased visitation numbers also reflect successful efforts to ensure that our audience mirrors Long Island’s vibrant and growing cultural communities. • Ovations & Innovations – The LICM Theater’s popularity grew exponentially this year with SOLD OUT signs the norm throughout the season. This jewel box space provides families and school groups with access (often times, their first) to live professional theater as an extension of their museum visit. • Art Expansion – Our exclusive partnership with The Willem de Kooning Foundation is on full display tonight as you view the creations of 700 children and young adults exploring visual problem-solving and creative risk-taking. The Foundation’s selection of LICM as an educational partner speaks volumes about our expertise in developing and delivering meaningful experiences for young children and adolescents. These successes would not be possible without the enthusiasm of community members, including Honoree Laura Curran, and the generous support of Event CoChairs Scott Rechler and George Tsunis and all the members of our Leadership Committee. Finally, we thank the LICM Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to inspire children to discover their full potential. Enjoy the night.

A Message from our Event Co-Chairs Transparency and accountability, coupled with commitments to inclusion and diversity, are values our honoree and the Children’s Museum share. We are excited to honor Laura Curran and her commitment to creating a bright future for Nassau County’s children. Did you know that general admission and other earned income areas account for only 55 percent of the Museum’s total annual budget? The remainder comes from corporate, foundation and individual support … and from this event, the Museum’s single annual fundraiser. Tonight’s event matters greatly… to the 250,000 children and families LICM welcomes annually, and to the community outreach programs this event supports. Vital programs that prepare dual language learners for kindergarten, provide curriculum enrichment to low-income school districts and accessibility resources and exclusive Museum time to children with special needs. We are proud to help make this night successful, but we are just a small part of a team that is committed to providing Long Island’s children with a safe place to learn, explore and thrive. We are grateful for the individuals and businesses that show their support to LICM and its values at this event … and throughout the year. Each of you, and all the other community leaders that the Museum calls friend, recognize LICM’s unique role as a provider of educational and cultural experiences and as a welcoming space for Long Island’s vibrant and diverse population.
The Children’s Museum is honored that County Executive Laura Curran has lent her support to this night and has recognized LICM as an important quality of life asset that brings acclaim to our County. The Museum looks forward to continuing the public/private partnership between the County and LICM that has served as a model for other museums nationally. Finally, we thank the Cupcakes & Cocktails Leadership Committee, LICM Board of Trustees, President Suzanne LeBlanc and the staff and volunteers of the Children’s Museum who devote their time and talents to this dynamic and ambitious institution. Thank you all. Enjoy this wonderful night.
