Shannon Perry 2020 FHPW Awards Gala Emcee and Entertainer

Shannon Perry has been named the favorite speaker by numerous women’s conferences and groups across the United States. She hosts a weekly TV show, Grace in High Heels, which airs on five television networks into over 100 million homes. She is the author of four books, "Grace in High Heels: Real Life Reflections of Humor, Hope and Healing," "The Overlooked Generation: Parenting Teens and Tweens in a Complicated Culture", the Reader’s Favorite Award-winning book, "Stand: Staying Balanced with Answers for Real Teen Life" and the two-time Amazon Best Seller, "Grace and Guts: Strategies for Living a Knock-Out Life." She holds a Master’s degree in Education and Counseling and is a Certified Instructor in Parenting Classes and Crisis Counseling. Her articles have appeared in several magazines and websites including Focus on the Family magazine, Brio magazine, Charisma magazine, Crosswalk.com, iBelieve.com, Beliefnet.com, among many others. As a singer and songwriter, Shannon has had charting songs on national radio, performed with the Houston Symphony, at Carnegie Hall, and sang the National Anthem at Houston Astros games and a Houston Texans NFL game before 70,000 fans. Shannon has also been a member of the Federation of Houston Professional Women (FHPW) in Cy-Fair Women’s Network, and she sang at a FHPW Women of Excellence Awards Gala at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Houston.

Letter from the President of FHPW

We are very pleased to have you join us this evening, either in person or online, to honor our Women of Excellence from our FHPW member organizations. Since 1982, the Federation of Houston Professional Women has honored over two thousand women in the greater Houston area. Our mission for thirty-nine years has been to unite women from diverse member organizations to enrich personal and professional relationships and expand leadership, partnership and educational opportunities. This year, it is my honor to serve as the President of the 2020 FHPW Board that makes this event possible. Although we faced challenges we could have never envisioned, I am privileged to work with an amazingly talented and creative team that made tonight’s celebration for these 2020 Women of Excellence possible.

Each of the FHPW Women of Excellence is being recognized by their colleagues for generously giving of their time, talent and knowledge to champion women and to enrich all our lives in their careers, communities and families. We appreciate the wonderful Gala sponsors whose support is vital to our purpose of advancing women’s interests and businesses, and recognizing their achievements. We are so excited to see the growth in the Federation of Houston Professional Women during our year of Encouraging Networking, Recognition and Growth (ENRG 2020!) Some of these Women of Excellence are the first to have the honor of receiving this recognition from new FHPW member organizations.

Our annual Awards Gala is also an opportunity to recognize women who are pursuing a degree in higher education and to provide funding to support them in their academic pursuits.. Letter from the President of the FHPW Educational Foundation September 19, 2020 Dear Educational Foundation Board, Donors, Women of Excellence Honorees, FHPW members and Guests, Our mission is and always has been to help young women receive the education they need to succeed. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Educational Foundation, I want to thank you for your interest and support in awarding scholarships and gifts to aid and advance the education and knowledge of women in the community.

The Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1993. Your contributions are tax deductible. The $500,000 awarded so far by the Educational Foundation has helped 300 women achieve undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees.

This year, the Education Foundation will award scholarships to 12 women who will be attending the University of Houston-Downtown, the University of Texas-Austin, Texas A&M in College Station, the University of Houston, the University of Texas-Dallas, and Texas Women’s University.

2020 Scholarship Recipients Ashley Cao

Ashley Cao is a first time FHWP EF scholarship recipient. Ms. Cao will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to continue Undergraduate studies at the University of Houston. Ms. Cao is currently a Senior pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish. Upon graduating, she plans to attend law school and become an immigration attorney to represent underserved individuals. Her hope is to give her future clients a voice in their pursuit of their “American Dream”.

Analicia Caylor Analicia Caylor is a second time scholarship recipient. The FHPW EF awarded her a scholarship in 2015 and is again honored to award her in 2020. Ms. Caylor will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to complete Graduate studies at Texas A&M University. Ms. Caylor will graduate in December 2020 with a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering, Water Resources. Upon graduating, she plans to work as a hydraulics and hydrology engineer. Her hope is to work on waterrelated solutions for the Houston area.

Sophia Ebel

Sophia Ebel is a first time FHWP EF scholarship recipient. Ms. Ebel will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to continue Undergraduate studies at Trinity University. Ms. Ebel is currently a Sophomore pursuing a Bachelors of Science, Pre-med with a Minor in Spanish.

Upon graduating, she plans to apply to a Texas medical school and be placed in a Texas Residency Program. Her hope is to become a pediatric surgeon and help save children’s lives.

2020 Scholarship Recipients

Tara Freeman

Tara Freemen is a first time FHWP EF scholarship recipient. Mrs. Freeman will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to complete Graduate studies at Sam Houston State University. Mrs. Freeman will graduate in August 2021 with a Masters of Science in Victim Services Management. Upon graduating, she would like to move into a full time position with the non-profit organization she founded, focusing on prison re-entry and victim advocacy for incarcerated women.

Nicole Karson

Nicole Karson is a second time scholarship recipient. The FHPW EF awarded her a scholarship in 2019 and is again honored to award her in 2020. Mrs. Karson will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to complete Graduate studies at the University of Houston. Mrs. Karson will graduate in May 2021 receiving concurrent degrees; a Doctorate of Optometry and a Masters of Science in Vision Science and Physiological Optics. Upon graduating, she plans to continue to provide patient care and remain active in the ocular research world. Her hope is to pursue a Ph.D project and work in optometric academia.

Bonnie Lewis Bonnie Lewis is a multi-year scholarship recipient from 2016 to 2019.

The FHPW EF is again honored to award her a scholarship in 2020. Ms. Lewis has used her past EF scholarships to assist with costs associated with attaining her Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Austin and continued costs to complete her studies in Physical Therapy school at Texas Woman's University in Dallas.

Ms. Lewis is will graduate in May 2021 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Upon graduating, Ms. Lewis plans to apply and complete a residency in pediatrics. Her hope is to work in her local community as a pediatric physical therapist.

2020 Scholarship Recipients Lesley Lopez

Lesley Lopez is a first time FHWP EF scholarship recipient. Ms. Lopez will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to continue Undergraduate studies at the University of Houston Clear Lake. Ms. Lopez is currently a Senior pursuing a Bachelors of Science in PreHealth. Upon graduating, she plans to continue graduate studies in medicine and hopes to become a thoracic surgeon. As a founder of the “Future Girls in Medicine Involvement” organization, her hope is to continue to inspire young women to pursue STEM careers.

Isabella Mitchum

Isabella Mitchum is a first time FHWP EF scholarship recipient. Ms. Mitchum will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to continue Undergraduate studies at Texas State University. Ms. Mitchum is currently a Junior pursuing a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting. Upon graduating, she plans to work for an accredited accounting firm where she hopes to implement community service events at a large scale and to start new programs that emphasize stewardship from within the organization.

Katherine O’Connor

Katherine O’Connor is a first time FHWP EF scholarship recipient. Ms. O’Connor will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to continue Undergraduate studies at Baylor University. Ms. O’Connor will graduate in December 2020 with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Upon graduating, she plans to work in critical care and continue her education to become a nurse practitioner. Her hope is to work in urban settings to serve patients across all walks of life.

Doran Reyes

Doran Reyes is a first time FHWP EF scholarship recipient. Ms. Reyes will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to continue her Undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Reyes is currently a Junior pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences. Upon graduating, she plans to apply to medical school and be placed in a Residency Program. Her hope is to become a physician and help improve quality of life for others.

Emily Thompson

Emily Thompson is a first time FHPW EF scholarship recipient. Ms. Thompson will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to continue her Doctoral studies at The University of Texas Health Science Center, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Ms. Thompson will graduate in March 2022 with a Ph.D in Medical Physics. Upon graduating, Ms. Thompson plans to become board certified by completing board examinations and a clinical residency. Her hope is to become faculty at an academic hospital in the Texas Medical Center and continue her research goals in advanced medical imaging.

Michaela Yost

Michaela Yost is a first time FHWP EF scholarship recipient. Ms. Yost will use her EF scholarship to assist with costs to continue Graduate studies at Sam Houston State University. Ms. Yost will graduate in December 2021 with a Masters of Science in Agriculture. Upon graduating, she plans to become an Agricultural Science teacher and ultimately a position as a Career and Technical Education Director. Her hope is to continue her passion with the agricultural industry and own a swine operation producing “best in Texas� livestock.

The History of the Federation The mission of the Federation of Houston Professional Women(FHPW) is to unite our member organizations to promote a place of influence and power. Today, many years later, FHPW continues to pursue its vision by empowering member organizations to achieve their goals by addressing general concerns of women in civic, community, personal and professional pursuits. Each member organization, although diverse in style and structure, has professional business-women members focusing on education, networking, specific careers and community service. The Federation of Houston Professional Women is the only one of its kind, yet another proof of the adage, “only in Houston”.

An endowed scholarship at the University of Houston School of Business was established with $10,000 in 1988. In 2001 the Federation, in honor of their 20th anniversary, made an additional $10,000 gift. The establishment of a non-profit educational foundation also began in 1990 with the final paperwork being submitted to the state in October 1993.

Since 1994 there has been phenomenal growth and development of FHPW due to an amazing leadership of motivated and active individuals.

The FHPW Council of Past Presidents is composed of the women who have graciously served FHPW as President. Carolyn L. Cooper ON THE FLY TOASTMASTER'S CLUB Carolyn is a licensed electrical engineer, serial entrepreneur, real estate investor, international speaker, and published author. She has shared the stage with business heavy weights such as Christie Brinkley, Mark Wahlberg, Bethenny Frankel, and Steve Wozniak. She was named Top Female Entrepreneur of the Year by Woman Entrepreneur Magazine, was inducted into the Houston Business Journal’s prestigious 40 under 40, and awarded the Woman of Excellence 2020 Award for her Toastmaster’s Club.

Carolyn is on a mission to help small business owners and individual professionals achieve greater success whether that’s by growing their wealth through passive investing, expanding their businesses through alternative financing, or empowering them to look great and be confident in their industry wearing one of her custom business suits.

Carolyn is heavily involved in her community. She is an officer and Charter Member of the On the Fly Toastmasters Club sponsored by FHPW. As VP of Education, she helps other members achieve their leadership and public speaking goals. Active with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) for 16 years, including Houston Area President for two years, she is passionate about helping women and girls succeed in STEM fields. As an advocate with CARE, she works closely with government officials to enact policies that save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice around the globe.

As a board member of the Second Chance Women’s Council of Texas, Carolyn is helping to bridge the gap between incarceration and education to empower women for a brighter future. She also served as 2020 FHPW Gala Director.

Cathy Conrad CY-FAIR EXPRESS NETWORK OF ABWA Cathy has been a Graphics Director since 2000 for Action Specialties, LLC, and also has transitioned into sales support for the company. She attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana for design and relocated to Houston from south Louisiana in 2015 when her company expanded to a second location. Her positive attitude is an asset to her colleagues. Cathy has been a member of ABWA since 2015 and quickly jumped into volunteering by serving on several committees as well as volunteering in the local community. She has served CYFEN in many capacities, including CYFEN Expo Committee Marketing Chair, Newsletter Editor, VP of Marketing, President-Elect, Hospitality Committee, and President. Cathy also serves on the planning committee for the 2020 Houston Area Council of ABWA Recognition Luncheon.

Cathy enjoys volunteering for Shield Bearer Counseling Centers, a non-profit organization which helps victims of disasters, human trafficking, domestic violence, war, and crime. She donates personal time at events such as the annual Shield Bearer Running for Hearts 5K Family Fun Run/Walk. Cathy has also donated graphic design services for Shield Bearer events, and in 2018 and 2019 she was recognized as a Shield Bearer Volunteer.

She has four fabulous children and seven grandsons. Her “therapy” is being creative with artwork in her free time.

DeShon Essia ASSOCIATION OF PERIOPERATIVE REGISTERED NURSES OF GREATER HOUSTON DeShon Burton-Essia [ee’SHAW], BS, BSN, RN, is an Operating Room Registered Nurse and Certified Christian Counselor. She is the Godly proud mother of 24 year old son RiShard serving in the US Navy and 18 year old daughter Zoëy, 2020 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School, FBISD. DeShon is a level 4 Staff Registered Nurse at the Red Duke Trauma Institute at Memorial Hermann Hospital-TMC, Adult Surgical Services Trauma Weekend Team.

She has been a PeriOperative Registered Nurse for 17 years specializing in the CVOR, Trauma, Advanced Heart Failure, Abdominal and Heart Transplant services. She earned her Bachelors in Nursing from Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing while serving as her class Chaplain.

DeShon is known for being passionate about serving through inclusiveness, engagement, advocacy, and community service. She has a servant’s heart and strongly believes in following GOD’s Word, these proverbs and quotes.

Tara Freeman HOUSTON AREA PROFESSIONAL EXPRESS NETWORK OF ABWA Originally from Dallas, Tara Freeman has lived in Houston for the past two years. In 2014, she received her Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Texas Women's University. While working on her degree, she found her passion for prison to society re-entry, and in 2018, she started The Second Chance Women's Council. Tara was accepted into the Victim Services Management master's program at Sam Houston State University in 2019, and is scheduled to graduate in 2021. Tara has also spent many years in various leadership positions, and has volunteered with organizations that center on human trafficking. In addition, she works as a family liaison for the Prison Entrepreneurship Program, as well as an accountant for Bryan and Patterson, P.C .

Tara is a member of The Second Chance Women’s Council Board of Directors, the American Society of Criminology - Division of Victimology - Technology Committee, and is a Prison Ministry Leader. She has served as an executive volunteer with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program and is an active volunteer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Melinda Gee WOMEN IN INSURANCE AND FINANCIAL SERVICES With more than 19 years’ experience in marketing and leader development for the financial services sector, Melinda Gee is passionate about driving business growth through innovative and inclusive solutions. Melinda joined Principal Financial Group's USIS division as a Senior Diversity Consultant in 2017, where she lead the organization’s diversity and inclusion strategic initiatives. Prior to joining Principal, she was the Regional Director of Marketing for the West Region at MetLife. It was there she developed a passion for reaching diverse markets and underserved communities. As a seasoned corporate professional, Melinda is deeply committed to attracting women to the financial services industry, as well as their development and advancement. Financial services is historically underrepresented by women, so it makes the work that Melinda does critical. AS WIFS Community Outreach Chair, Melinda helped forge an alliance with the Women’s Resource, which enables WIFS members to connect with other women to help guide and educate.

A native of Louisiana, Melinda holds a Bachelors Degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Melinda lives in Richmond, Texas, with her husband, James. She enjoys spending time with family, especially her 2 sons, and friends. She serves as a mentor and is active in various volunteer activities.

Samona Grant HUMBLE ARTESIAN CHAPTER OF ABWA Samona Grant has been a member of ABWA since 2016. She joined in search of tools for Leadership Development and found so much more.During her 20-year career span in the Insurance Industry, there was no shortage of recognition for outstanding performance. However, opportunities to advance seemed bleak with the only explanation being she did not have management experience. Instead of giving up or settling, Samona sought other ways to carve a new path.

While continuing to work full-time she completed the requirements to become a Licensed Real Estate Agent. Obtaining her Real Estate License was just the beginning. Since then, Samona has taken on the role of President of her community Homeowner Association, Vice President of ABWA Humble Artesian Chapter, and often works with real estate clients who struggle with credit challenges.

All that Samona does is rooted in service and she attributes her growth in leadership to being in the company of the strong, vibrant, and charismatic women of this organization. As a result, she has grown from softly introducing herself as a Realtor to confidently professing that she is a matchmaker who introduces people to houses until they find one they fall in love with.

Corinne Herbert-Copeland EPSILON CHI CHAPTER OF IOTA PHI LAMBDA SORORITY, INC. Corinne Copeland is originally from St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. She relocated to Virginia where she attended Norfolk State University and Hampton University. After graduating, Corinne with her husband and children later relocated to Houston, Texas where she continued her nursing career as a pediatric and adult nurse. Corinne graduated from Chamberlain College of Nursing with her Master’s Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She currently works full time as a Nurse Practitioner at Texas Children’s - The Center for Children and Women. She started her path to entrepreneurship and became her mother’s legacy by joining Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., a business and professional women’s organization.

She is now the proud founder & CEO of Real Nurturing Family Practice LLC. Her private practice provides clinic, home visits and telemedicine, allowing her to take care of patients at an affordable cost and assisting those individuals who cannot afford insurance or physically go to a doctor. It is through her hard work and dedication of 16 years as a nurse that she strives to provide optimal care for her patients while balancing the role of mother and wife for a family of five. She is blessed to be supported by her loving husband, Lester Copeland.

C. Susan Howes

SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS - HOUSTON AREA SECTION C. Susan Howes, PE, PHR is VP of Engineering at Subsurface Consultants & Associates LLC (SCA) in Houston since 2016 where she maintains technical quality standards for consulting, training, and direct hire recruitment. A Petroleum Engineering graduate of University of Texas, Howes joined Anadarko Petroleum, holding roles of increasing responsibility in reservoir engineering, business development, corporate engineering and HR. In 2007, Howes joined Chevron as Manager of the Horizons Program, and later served as Reservoir Management Consultant at Chevron.

Howes is recognized as an industry leader in petro-technical talent attraction, development and retention. She has coauthored over thirty articles on the topics of ethics, business/management/leadership (soft) skills, uncertainty management, risk management, and talent management. She is an invited speaker on topics including Reservoir Management, Reserves, Business Development, Diversity/Inclusion, Employee Retention, Leadership, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, Work/Life Balance, Dual Career Couples, Career Management, Mentoring, Workforce Trends, Petroleum Engineering Education and Networking.

Her role at SCA enables her to combine her talent management expertise with her domain knowledge in reservoir engineering to provide consulting, staffing and talent development strategies for clients worldwide. Susan and her husband, Hal Howes, are the proud parents of two daughters, Rachel and Elizabeth.

Loretta Jammal PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S NETWORK OF HOUSTON Loretta Jammal was the first of nine siblings to graduate from college and graduated with a BS in Technology from the University of Houston during the oil bust of 1986. She began her career as HR receptionist at Harris County Appraisal District, working her way up to Personnel Officer II. In 1989, she moved to Compaq Computer Corporation as an HR Representative. After the births of her three children, Loretta was blessed to be able to stay home and raise her family. She began volunteer work, serving both her church community and assisting with production and fundraising for three local theaters.

Loretta joined WineShop at Home in 2017 and created her own company, Vino My Heart, which offers private, guided wine tastings and wine education in an effort to provide fun and memorable experiences for wine lovers in the greater Houston area. She is grateful that her business allows her to share her love of wine with others.

She has served countless volunteer hours with Project Prom, Houston Family Arts Center (Stage Works Theater), Playhouse 1960, Humphreys School of Musical Theater (TUTS), Tommy Tunes Awards and the Journey to Damascus. She continues her volunteer work with Tailgate Ministry and Prince of Peace Catholic Community, where she is involved with children’s and youth programs and serves as lector and eucharistic minister.

Kristin Koblis ZONTA CLUB OF HOUSTON Kristin Koblis earned a bachelor’s degree in toxicology from Northeastern University and has retired from 23 years in the oil and gas industry as a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager. Her idea of retirement was to join the Harris County Department of Public Health as their Chemical, Radiation and Biological Emergency Response Planner where she is currently working with the county on its COVID-19 pandemic emergency response.

She retired as a Senior Manager in Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) from oil and gas.

During her tenure in the oil and gas industry she was the Industrial Hygiene Subcommittee Chair at IPIECA, which is a global oil and gas association for the advancement of environmental and social performance. She was also on the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ HSE Advisory Committee.

Her hobbies include yoga, the arts, hiking, and international travel. She has traveled to 75 countries and plans on seeing more of the world in the future. Kristin has received her Incident Command System certifications from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to be able to participate and lead an incident command leadership position for an emergency.

Pam Longley THE PROFESSIONAL GROUP Pam Longley Is a second generation native Houstonian, an avid gardener, small business owner, writer and volunteer. She attended Sam Houston State University as an Elementary Education major and then decided she was more interested in a business career. She took an entry-level position at a large national title company in 1974 and by 1975 she became an escrow officer, and then she advanced into management three years later.

Pam strives to make a difference in the lives of women and children by inspiring change and positivity through mentorship and teaching. She says her volunteer work has been even more rewarding than her 44-year career in the title insurance industry because she gets to work from her heart all the time. Retired in 2019, Pam has just started her own garden design consulting business. Pam has been an active member of The Professional Group for 11 years, is the grandmother of 4 and is happily single. Her friends call her "The Connector" because she enjoys bringing like-minded people together for a common cause or a memorable gathering.

Pam’s volunteer activities include the Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church Women's Retreat Committee, Angela House Mentor Program, Harris County Master Gardeners, Kipp Sharpstown College Prep Academy reading intervention program.

Markisha Mitchell WOMEN EMPOWERING WOMEN EXPRESS NETWORK OF ABWA Markisha Mitchell, a trained chemist, educator, and registered nurse, is currently the Community Relations and Marketing Director for Medella Urgent Care, which is owned and operated by her husband and his business partner. She works with external PR agencies to create marketing campaigns, manages the company’s social media presence, and is responsible for organizing events, where she has been known to don an elephant costume (the company mascot) to connect with the audience. She has worked as a clinical nurse in behavioral/mental health and as a home health nurse, where she cared for pediatric patients born with congenital defects, birth trauma, and survivors of accidents or abuse.

Markisha is the owner of "Sew To Soul". She creates custom adaptive garments, weighted blankets, sensory lap pads, and more for those with unique needs. She is an active supporter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and has served as the walk team captain for the Montgomery County Chapter. She is a Night To Shine volunteer Seamstress for the Tim Tebow Foundation.

A mother of 4, she has been married for 26 years to her high school sweetheart, Dr. Derrick Mitchell, and is passionate about her involvement with NAMI and various Autism Parent Support groups. She is in her “happy place” in her small sewing room where she makes weighted blankets and alters garments for individuals with unique needs.

Carrie Potter TEXAS EXECUTIVE WOMEN Carrie Potter provides business consulting and financial planning services to professional athletes, entrepreneurs and small businesses. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Registered Investment Advisor.

Prior to the launch of CPG in 2006, she was Vice President at PMG Sports in Washington DC. Carrie also teaches Sport Finance at Rice University.

Potter serves on the Mercy Education Systems of the Americas Board, founding President of Women in Sports & Events (WISE) Houston, Past Chair of Texas Executive Women, and former Chair of the Houston Area Women's Center Board of Directors. She earned a BBA and MBA from The George Washington University and serves on the Executive Committee of the School's Board of Advisors.

Carrie is a Class XXXIV American Leadership Forum Senior Fellow, Center for Houston’s Future Class 34, Texas Executive Women Woman on the Move, HBJ 40 Under 40 class, STEAM Role Model of Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women. Carrie was the first female student body president at The George Washington University and Valedictorian of Mercy High School in Omaha, Nebraska. When not serving clients or the community, Potter enjoys visiting nursing homes with her goldendoodle Penny, playing golf, and cooking.

Virginia Quartaro WOMEN'S BUSINESS FORUM Virginia Quartaro has worked in banking for the past 30 years. She has been a commercial lender at Frost Bank for the past 15 years. As a Commercial Lender, Virginia is focused on helping small business. She was instrumental in helping some 11,000 small business owners secure over $3 billion in SBA PPP Loans during the recent COVID Pandemic. In the spirit of giving back to the Community, Virginia has served in many volunteer positions which include PTO President for Strack Intermediate School, Drama Booster Club Officer at Klein Collins High School and Drill Team Coach for 5 years for the Klein Ram Sweethearts.

With her daughter, she served as President of the Junior Guild of Texas in NW Houston, a Non-Profit service organization for high school young women and their mothers.. Virginia is a native Houstonian and has been married to Tony Quartaro for 41 years . They reside in the Spring area and have a beautiful daughter, Emily Quartaro, who is currently a Social Media Producer for Digital Media Management in New York City.

Terri Tripp CY-FAIR WOMEN'S NETWORK Terri Tripp is the Vice President of A Better Tripp Moving & Storage. She has a degree in marketing and worked for J.C. Penney for 14 years. She understands customer service and loves to work with people. Terri has been involved with the National Charity League, a mother-daughter organization, for 6 years and served on the board. Terri's favorite philanthropy is Boys and Girls Country. Terri and her husband, David, have been blessed to work with Boys and Girls Country for ten years and have sponsored two cottages. Terri and her company have a heart for two other philanthropies, Homes for Hope, an adoption agency, and Operation Shoe Box, an organization that delivers gifts worldwide.

Terri is married to David Tripp, has three children and a grandson, and enjoys spending time with her family at the lake or beach. She states, “We can not be everything in this world, but the blessing of life and happiness humbles me every day. I am blessed to have such an amazing family and friends.�

Mary Lynn Koenig WOMEN OF VISION EXPRESS NETWORK OF ABWA Mary Lynn grew up in Austin, Texas with her parents and two siblings. She attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Science. She spent several years as a flight instructor and as a cargo pilot, including two years in Brussels, Belgium, before being hired as a Continental Airlines pilot. Mary Lynn has been with Continental Airlines, now United Airlines, for over 21 years, and is currently an international Boeing 777 pilot. During her time at the airlines she has visited over 50 countries on 5 continents.

Mary Lynn has done numerous community service projects such as collecting supplies for and visiting with residents at a local women's shelter, cooking meals for homeless families, and collecting donations for Operation Military Embrace. She also mentors High School girls in community involvement and leadership development and has lead sponsor workshops for prospective National Charity League members.

Mary Lynn is the proud mother of two children. Her son, Adrian, is a senior at Baylor, and her daughter, Nina, is a freshman at SMU. In addition to serving on the board with WOVEN, in her free time she enjoys mentoring other women and volunteering. She also enjoys boating, yard work, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Mary Lynn feels honored to be chosen as an FHPW Women of Excellence, and looks forward to her future.

ABOUT US The Federation of Houston Professional Women Educational Foundation was founded in 1993.

In 1994 the FHPWEF received non-profit status under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3).

We are an all-volunteer organization. Each volunteer brings a wealth of information, skills and experience from their professional careers to continue the mission and success of the Foundation.

Since 1997, FHPWEF has awarded $500,000 in scholarships. The scholarships have been given to more than 300 women. The contributions to the Educational Foundation come from a number of sources to fund these scholarships.

OUR MISSION The mission of the Education Foundation is to award scholarships and gifts to advance the education and knowledge of women in the community. The joy of the Foundation is the experience of giving to the next generation to lead our society to be better.
