Writing a Will is something many people keep putting off, always thinking there will be time later to do it. But there are lots of important reasons to make your Will & the sooner it is done, the sooner you can relax in the knowledge that everything is in order. 

If you die without a Will, there are certain rules which dictate how the money, property or possessions should be allocated. This may not be the way that you would have wished your money & possessions to be distributed. 

If you have children, you will need to make a Will so that arrangements for the children can be made if either one or both parents die.

It may be possible to reduce the amount of tax payable on the inheritance if advice is taken in advance & a Will is made.

Unmarried partners & partners who have not registered a civil partnership cannot inherit from each other unless there is a Will, so the death of one partner may create serious financial problems for the remaining partner.

If your circumstances have changed, it is important that you make a Will to ensure that your money & possessions are distributed according to your wishes. For example, if you have separated & your ex-partner now lives with someone else, you may want to change your Will. If you are married or enter into a registered civil partnership, this will make any previous Will you have made invalid.

A gift in your Will, however large or small, whenever the time is right for you, will help Longfield to continue to care. After your family & friends have been remembered, it gives you the opportunity to leave a gift to Longfield hospice. This gift can have an impact on people’s lives for years to come.

From the 1st –14th October this year a group of amazing solicitors are giving up their time, free of charge, to draft a standard Will for you in support of Longfield hospice. In return, we ask that you consider making a donation to Longfield hospice. To give you some idea of how much this would normally cost you, solicitors usually charge approximately £90.00 to draft a standard single Will & £175.00 for a standard double Will. As well as being able to visit the Solicitors who are supporting us at their offices, we will also be holding a Make a Will Clinic with WLS Solicitors here at Longfield on Tuesday 8th October (please call WLS Solicitors to make your appointment).
