NOVEMBER2022

Fellow Members,

A few weeks ago, I heard the first unmistakable pings of pickleball rackets on our newly lined and resurfaced racquet sport courts. Hats off to Staff and the House Committee for getting the courts redone and lines drawn that allow Tennis and Pickleball to co-exist peacefully. This is paramount, as racquets and balls can take on savage weapon-like characteristics in an intersport disagreement.

Also recently, I was happy to notice the pond fountain on holes #10 and #11 is again doing its duty. A fountain serves two purposes on a golf course. First, it is a dedicated fighter of pond scum. And second, it is an effective cover for traffic noise. Well, ours is back at it.

I have always wondered about the fountains on our course, do they shut down when the Club is closed? Or do they keep going 24/7?

Well, I am pleased to announce that if the fountains are on a schedule, that schedule will be changing!

Recently, the Board and Management decided to adjust the 2023 calendar. We will now be opening the Club on most all Monday federal or NYSE holidays. This decision was made in response to Member requests that have grown over time. The Club will be closed the Tuesday following an open Monday holiday.

Please use the Club on these holidays if you are able, as a full Club is a happy Club. This calendar change is another example of Management and Staff at BraeBurn going the extra mile for Members, and I am always humbled in new ways to see their ongoing dedication and service.

It is an Honor to Serve You, James

P.S. Yes, that is a first, and maybe last mention of “pond scum” in the Bagpiper. I have learned that a euphemism we may all use is “duck weed.”
