It’s so good to be back amongst what we know: first class companion animal content brought you by the Royal Veterinary College, a range of equine lectures brought to you by the RVC as well as stream of content from the British Veterinary Association in partnership with the British Equine Veterinary Association, as well as the BVA’s engaging stream of farm content, their always popular Career Development Stream and, as ever, we are proud to host the BVA Congress. Of course, without our education partners and whole host of media partners it would not be possible to bring you the London Vet Show as you know it today. Over the years our audience has grown tremendously shaping what you now know and love. Without telling you what to do, my suggestion would be that you head over to the theatres for the Keynote Welcome in RVC Theatre 1 before checking out the programme to fill your days. I am sure you will find out something useful that you can take back to practice from the speakers that we have across those theatres. But also make sure you speak to our exhibitors. I know that they enjoy the event as much as anyone else, and believe it or not, they don’t just come down here just to enjoy the ExCeL London. They don’t even come down to enjoy all the wonderful content. They come down to see you. So, make the time to say hello. Visit the stands. Meet some of the teams you have known for years. Meet some that you will know for years to come.

Thank you for attending and enjoy the show!

Most of all, if there is one thing I can ask you all to do, it’s to enjoy yourself. This is the first time we have all managed to be together since 2019, and whilst it is safe to assume that we will all be back next year, and in Birmingham NEC at the inaugural BVA Live, if we haven’t learned anything it is that we shouldn’t take anything for granted. So, let’s have some fun!

College & British

Association for programming the clinical streams 5 London Vet Show 2021 — 11-12 November Welcome

Dear Delegate, Welcome back! When we were here last it was impossible to think we would spend so much of next 24 months with our social and professional interactions so restricted. Hopefully for everyone it has reinforced how important it is to have pinnacle moments like the London Vet Show. Over the next couple of days we can all get together, face to face, to catch up on best practice, new developments and to support each other through the challenges we have doubtless had and celebrate the way success we have achieved.

With thanks to the Royal Veterinary Veterinary

Knowing the restrictions that we have had to live by makes it even more exciting for my colleagues, our industry partners, sponsors and the 300 exhibiting companies, to welcome you to the London Vet Show 2021!

Yours sincerely Rob Chapman Managing Director

Welcome from the London Vet Show

Wooldridge speaker. Dr Tamsin Edwards is a major voice in the field of climate science and we feel honoured to welcome her this year. Her lecture, ‘Polar thinking’, is not to be missed. Elsewhere across our Congress programme we’ll be exploring some of the hottest topics across the veterinary workforce, from diversity and inclusion in the workforce to agriculture beyond Brexit. As always, BVA staff will be on hand at stand K71 to answer your questions, provide information on your membership, and discuss the work we’re doing on your behalf. The BVA Members’ lounge is also returning to this year’s London Vet Show and will offer BVA members an opportunity and space to take a break and view the winning and highly commended images from the 2021 BVA Veterinary Photographer of the Year. I hope you all have a fantastic London Vet Show! PS. Looking forward to seeing you at the first BVA Live on 23-24 June 2022 at the NEC Birmingham. Visit F57 to book for just £149+VAT or £126+VAT for BVA members.

Welcome from BVA President

As usual we have a great line up of speakers from abroad, the RVC and around the UK who will deliver lectures covering many different aspects of clinical practice. I particularly want to welcome Tammy Grubb who is a keynote speaker this year. Tammy is a fantastic speaker and her lectures related to anaesthesia topics look fantastic. She hails from Washington State University in the US and we are very grateful that she has agreed to travel to be with us given all of the hassle that travel seems to involve these days. I hope that whatever sessions you attend and whatever exhibits you visit at the 12th LVS you will find something to interest, intrigue and inspire you that you can take back to your practice to enhance the welfare of your patients and clients, your team and of course, yourself.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the London Vet Show and the 2021 BVA Congress. One which I know you’ll all agree has special meaning and poignance for the profession. We had to make the disappointing but understandable decision to cancel our inperson plans in 2020, offering virtual sessions instead as everyone adjusted to restrictions at the peak of the second wave of the pandemic in the UK. It’s been an immensely difficult time for everyone, and the challenges and uncertainty are far from over as we all adjust to this ‘new normal’. However, it’s hugely comforting that this year, the veterinary community is able to gather in person again to enjoy spending time with new and familiar faces, take part in discussions and debate, and benefit from learning opportunities on the issues that matter most across the veterinary community. My theme for my year as BVA President is Sustainability, and with COP26 nearly drawing to a close I can think of no better time for this crucial and universal topic to top our own Congress agenda. Our ‘Race to zero’ session brings together expert insights from across the profession on the role of vets in tackling climate change, and elsewhere we look at wider #GreenTeamVet topics from the One Health approach to parasiticides and the sustainability of pet ownership. I’m delighted that the theme also carries through to our fantastic letter from RVC Welcome to London Vet Show 2021 – how great is it to be back?! After almost two years like no other I am beyond excited that we are back together again on the LVS floor. My role at LVS is to programme the RVC small animal clinical streams in the three main theatres and of course, I hope that most delegates will see these as the focal point of their LVS experience. However, there is so much else going on including great sessions in the two RVC Equine Theatres, the BVA/BEVA Equine Theatre and the BVA Farm Theatre - LVS is now a great CPD destination for vets in mixed practice. The Business Theatre will be busy as usual, there will be a range of hot topics discussed in the BVA Congress and the BVA Careers Development Theatre will also be a hive of interesting discussions. The offerings in the other specialised theatres supported by referral practices and various companies add to the great learning experience that is LVS. RVC Nursing Theatre was launched in 2019 and once again this year our fabulous nurses from the RVC’s Queen Mother Hospital for Animals have put together a wonderful series of lectures that will be of interest to many. The mini-theme this year for the RVC Small Animal Clinical Stream is “More than one option”. The idea is for the lecturers to focus on the pros and cons of the different options that can be available for diagnosing or managing disorders. So often there is not one clear option that is best for all patients and clients and we must make informed decisions about what is the best option for this particular patient. The problems that will be discussed include separation anxiety, acute hindlimb collapse, dry

23 London Vet Show 2021 — 11-12 November Wellness Zone

Take a break throughout your time at the London Vet Show to energise and elevate your mood. The London Vet Show, in partnership with VetYogi and Vet Fit are delighted to invite you to chill out in the new Wellness Zone.

With thanks to the Royal Veterinary College & British Veterinary Association for programming the clinical streams

Wellness Zone No booking necessary. See the timetable board for session details. Find it at Stand P55

It’s not just for avid yogis and fitness fanatics. The Wellness Zone is designed to give you a space to chill-out throughout the London Vet Show, and equip you with essential tools and easy wins to improve your clinical performance and boost the wellbeing of your team. There are several, 15-minute yoga and breathwork sessions available run by Chloe Hannigan (aka VetYogi) throughout day as well as longer micro-workshops with Vet Fit on mobility, mindset and leadership in practice. When there’s no sessions on, you can use the Wellness Zone for a much-needed zen space. Grab a herbal tea and relax on the cushions either solo or with a few friends. We ask kindly that the Wellness Zone remains tech-free and encourage delegate to talk to each other instead. So, leave your phones in your pocket and enjoy a rest-bite between lectures!

Community Masterminds Back for 2021! With the convenience of social networks and veterinary professionals often being geographically isolated, it’s no surprise that over the past decade there has been a rise of both open and closed online veterinary communities. Many vet professionals are turning to Facebook groups for peer support on everything from clinical questions to lifehacks The London Vet Show is the perfect platform to gather these online communities live in person, to discuss topics that are important to them. I’ve been given the flexibility to make coming back to work easier. It isn’t a choice between my family and my job.”

I can be who I want to be professionally, having my own business, but also having the balance with my children at home.”

I didn’t think I’d be able to have a Head Nurse position and be part time. I thought my career was on hold.”

Sarah Beckerlegge, Branch Partner

Opportunities nationwide for Branch Partners, Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses Medivet’s aim is to create the best place to work within the Veterinary industry and that’s why we are introducing truly flexible working, where individuals are able to do the job they love without sacrificing their quality of life. This approach is already being brought to work – and to life – every day, with many Medivet colleagues across more than 360 practices and 25 state-of-the-art 24-hour centres taking advantage of this shift towards flexible working. Meet our team and hear first-hand about working with Medivet – visit us on stand E30.
