The Scrips Program
• March 25 - April 1: The Symphony Orchestra Tour to Florida will be taking place.
by Grace Morales
“Scrips is a program that is available at Loma Linda Academy business office, elementary office, and Children’s Center. There are two forms available, one is over the counter, and the other is for pre-orders. Over the counter forms are for the stores that are in stock, so parents, students, or family members can come in and purchase the items that are in stock and give credit to the student they know. It is like a little savings account that is put into an account for the certificate program and is not tied into Smart Tuition or student billing. Every month a list of parents, who have been purchasing scrips, are reconciled. Then the money can be used for tuition if there is over $100 in the account, field trips, sports fees, or any type of event as long as its paying to Loma Linda Academy. There is a certificate program account withdrawal form, so the Business Office verifies that the amount of money is available for use, and every month the money used is taken from the account. On the Scrips forms there is a list of stores and the percentage of money you can get back from your purchases. You can accrue money over time and save it for future use. The full list of stores in the Scrips program can be found on the LLA website. It can be found by going onto the Loma Linda Academy Home Page, Schools+, Student & Parent Portal, and Fundraisers. There you will find a list, the Scrips program is the third option in the list and will show you the entire list of stores involved in the Scrips program.” Interviewed: Claudia Hernandez

• Pastor Mark Holm update: Every single day he is doing something big for recovery such as lifting his leg by himself, remembering long-term memories, and being able to talk about sports. Pastor Mark keeps shocking his therapist with greater and greater progress, and they are currently working on singing for intonation and left arm movement. With the school year coming to a close, we have new things coming next year, and something new, right now. For 12 years, we have used True Grits uniforms. Last year, we had a little change of pace with a company called Parker School Uniforms replacing True Grits. Now, we have a completely different provider, Land’s End. Land’s End is a clothing retail company which is based in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. The uniforms are less expensive, have more variety, a better fit, they are more convenient, and they have more sales. Shipping is free and only 4-6 days to ship and about a week to deliver (for orders over fifty dollars). If you pay $6.95 for expedited shipping, it will deliver in about 5-6 days. If you choose Express UPS, your package will arrive in 2-5 days. Since 2010, we have been using Powerschool, but starting next school year, we will being using a different S.I.S. (student information system) called BlackBaud. In 2010, we started to use Powerschool, and at the time it was best of
the best. Now, 8 years later it is outdated, inconvenient, and does not provide everything that parents and students would like access to. With BlackBaud, students will be able to check their grades, and schedule. There will be better communication, and you will have access to the teacher websites. You can even do online homework or submit documents to your teachers all from the same system. We have a new website, yes you heard me right. If you don’t know about it, then you are in luck. In 2012, the school created the layout for the older website. Now it is 2018 and the school updated the website to a temporary design, yes temporary. The older website was not mobile friendly, so until we have BlackBaud up and running, this is a short term solution. While the school’s staff works on BlackBaud, there will continue to be changes to the school’s website. Interveiwed: Scott Guptill, Joni Woodhouse, Hans, and Datha Tickner
